POSITION OBJECTIVES

This position sits in the Library and Learning Services Library Academic Engagement Services team and reports to the Coordinator, Library Learning and Teaching Services. Incumbents will have specific discipline knowledge but will be expected to apply their expertise across disciplines in line with Griffith’s multidisciplinary approach.

The Discipline Librarian will contribute to Griffith’s teaching, learning and research goals by providing proactive, discipline-based scholarly information and communication services to academics and students. This position will work individually and as part of multiple teams to partner with academics across all stages of the teaching lifecycle to enhance student outcomes through effective use of library information and communication services and tools.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Develop and maintain productive relationships with the following:

o Colleagues across the Library and Learning Services portfolio and in particular Library Academic Engagement Services team in order to facilitate the collaborative and timely provision of Library learning and teaching services according to priorities.

o Colleagues in the Student Services, Student Administration, Group and School Academic administration, Learning Futures and Digital Solutions to provide a joined up approach in the delivery of key University strategies.

Develop and maintain strong and effective partnerships with Griffith University academic staff to maximise the value of library expertise and service in enhancing Griffith’s learning and teaching.

Under the broad direction of the Coordinator, Library Learning and Teaching lead a small team of library professionals (4-7 staff) partnering with Group based academics in curriculum design through identifying appropriate, relevant learning resources which maximise student learning, and by working with the academic and other professional groups to identify opportunities for embedding information and academic literacy into the curriculum.

Provide discipline-relevant proactive library and information services, informed by an understanding of the discipline, of Griffith’s aspirations and priorities, and of emerging external trends and opportunities.

Coach and develop librarian staff to build our capability to provide high quality virtual and physical services across multiple locations.

Lead and manage projects relating to learning and teaching including the management of project resources and timelines and contribute to operational planning and continuous improvement processes.

Contribute to the provision of Library and Learning Services researcher support services as required.

Lead and promote compliance with relevant legislation and University policies and procedures, including equity and health and safety, and exhibit good practice in relation to same.

Lead and promote fair, ethical and professional work practices in accordance with the University Code of Conduct.

SELECTION CRITERIA Essential:

A relevant discipline degree and/or a degree in library and information science, with substantial subsequent discipline experience in an academic/research library, or an equivalent combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience

Highly developed negotiation, communication, advocacy, and presentation skills together with an ability to build and maintain highly effective relationships and work as partners in order to achieve key strategic outcomes and deliver outcomes

Highly developed interpersonal communication and self-management skills including: demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development; proven ability to adapt to and embrace change and to exercise independent judgment while contributing effectively as a member of a team; proven ability to organise and prioritise own workload in a demanding work environment including demonstrated ability to apply well developed organisational skills to tasks or projects.

Proven understanding of the tertiary education context and its implications for Library services including demonstrated understanding of emerging technologies and their implications for learning and teaching.

Demonstrated initiative, critical thinking and problem solving skills and the ability to transform ideas into actions.

Skill in the design and development of training materials and proven ability to deliver effective training programmes.

Proven ability to coach and develop the capability of staff.

Experience in managing projects, including the management of project resources and meeting deadlines.

Desirable:

Eligibility for Membership of the Australian Library and Information Association.

Experience in developing or working with digital research tools, and an understanding of how they apply to an academic environment.
