Install Android 5.1.1 Lollipop CM12.1 on Galaxy W I8150. Samsung Galaxy Wonder was launched in 2011 with decent specs, some of which were 2 GB internal storage, 512 MB RAM, Android v2.3.5 Gingerbread OS, 5 megapixel camera, TFT capacitive touchscreen with 2592 х 1944 pixels resolution and 1500 mAh battery. After GB no new OS was launched for this smartphone with disappointed many Galaxy W users. Although fortunately this device did get third party custom ROMs. Due to the combined efforts from nilac, Christopher83 and arco it is now possible to experience the latest Android L features on Galaxy W. Try all the steps given below at your own risk. If your smartphone gets damaged by following this guide then neither I nor the developers of this ROM will be held responsible for that. So I recommend you to follow every instruction correctly. Also note that this ROM is compatible only and only with Samsung Galaxy W having model number GT-I8150. Do not install this on any other device except the one mentioned as it may cause permanent damage to your device.

Pre-Requisites:

· Lack of battery power may interrupt the process. So make sure you’ve charged your Galaxy W at least up to 60%.

· As everything gets wiped in the last step of this procedure, it is necessary to backup all your phone data and settings including contacts, messages, call logs, memos etc.

· Backup EFS folder present in your phones system directory. This folder contains all your phones specific information such as the IMEI, wireless devices MAC addresses, product code, and much more. So a backup of this folder is essential. There is always a risk that this EFS folder might get corrupted. If so happened, your device will be completely useless & will no longer be recognized by your carrier. Refer our article to backup and restore EFS/IMEI data:

1. How to backup and restore EFS/IMEI on Android Phones.

· Ensure that you have installed mobile specific drivers on your PC. This is recommended so as to recognize your Galaxy W when connected via USB data cable. You can install them by installing Samsung Kies or manually install them from the link given below:

1. Download Windows 32 bit x86 drivers.

1. Download Windows 64 bit x64 drivers.

· Your Galaxy W must be rooted.

· A custom recovery like Clockworkmod (CWM) or TWRP must be installed before proceeding further. Refer these steps for flashing latest CWM recovery:

Step 1: Download and extract this Odin3.07 on your PC.

Step 2: Also download this CWM recovery in a specific folder on PC. Do not extract it.

Step 3: Now switch off your Galaxy W. Then boot it into downloading mode. For doing the same, press & hold volume down + power button + home button simultaneously until you get Downloading message on the screen.

Step 4: Using USB data cable connect your Galaxy W to PC.

Step 5: On PC, launch the Odin3.07 which you’ve just extracted.

Note: As soon as you launch it, the ID:COM section located at the top left corner will turn light blue with a random number. Also an Added message will appear in the message box window. This will confirm that your Galaxy W has been successfully connected to the PC. But if such thing doesn’t happen then it’s more likely to be problem with the mobile drivers. So re-install the mobile specific drivers on your PC.

Step 6: Tick the Auto Reboot and F.Reset options present on the Odin window. Keep rest of the options as they are.

Step 7: Now click PDA button on the Odin window. Then browse to the recovery.tar file which you have downloaded earlier and select it.

Step 8: The initiate the CWM recovery flashing process by clicking the Start button. The flashing process will hardly take a minute to complete. As soon as it completes you’ll get a pass message on the Odin window.

Great! You’ve successfully flashed CWM custom recovery on your Galaxy W I8150 smartphone. Let’s head on to the actual step by step Android 5.1.1 Lollipop based CM 12.1 ROM flashing process.

Procedure to install Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on Galaxy W I8150:

Downloads:

1. Download Android 5.1.1 Lollipop CM12.1 ROM for Galaxy W I8150.

1. Download Google Apps (Android 5.1.1) for Galaxy W I8150.

Procedure:

Step 1: Download both the zip package files in a specific folder on your computer. Do not extract them.

Step 2: Then connect your Galaxy W to PC by using original USB data cable, enable mass storage mode and copy the downloaded zip files on your phones SD card.

Note: If your PC doesn’t recognize your device then re-install device drivers or try with new USB data cable or port.

Step 3: Then safely disconnect your Galaxy W from PC and switch it off. Boot your phone into CWM recovery mode. For doing so, press and hold Home button (middle button) + Power button + Volume Up button simultaneously till you enter CWM recovery mode.

Note: Touch won’t work in this recovery mode. So use Volume keys for navigating up and down and use Home button for selection.

As you land into recovery firstly take a complete backup of the ROM which you are currently using. This is the backup of your phones entire operating system and is called as Nandroid backup. It is always helpful in case of failure during flashing process or any problem with the ROM, then you can easily restore your saved previous ROM.

Refer our detailed article for taking Nandroid backup:

1. How to take Nandroid Backup of any Android Phone with 8 simple methods.

Step 4: For taking nandroid backup of your current ROM, use Volume keys and navigate to the ‘backup & restore’ option on the CWM recovery mode and on the next screen select ‘backup’option using Home button. This will make a complete nandroid backup and it will be saved on your phones SD card.

Step 5: Next you need to wipe the data and cache partitions from your phones memory. For doing so, navigate to the ‘wipe data/factory reset’ option using volume keys. Select it using Home button. On the next screen press Yes option to start the wiping process. Similarly navigate to the ‘wipe cache partition’ option and select it to wipe the caches.

Note: This step will clear entire data from your phones internal memory including contacts, messages, apps, memos, call logs etc. So take a complete backup of every data before performing this step.

Step 6: Return back to the main menu and select the Advanced option present on the recovery mode. On the next screen select Reboot Recovery  option.

Wait until you boot again into recovery.

Let’s move to the actual Android 5.1.1 Lollipop CM12.1 ROM flashing process.

Step 7: Now navigate to the ‘install zip from SD card’ option and select it using Home button. Then on the next screen select ‘choose zip from SD card’ option. This will show you all the data present on your external SD card. So navigate to the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop based Cyanogenmod 12.1 custom ROM which you’ve copied earlier and select it. On the next screen select ‘Yes’ option to initiate the actual Android 5.1.1 Lollipop ROM flashing process. You need to wait for a minute as the process completes.

Step 8: Now again select ‘wipe data/factory reset’ option and ‘wipe cache partition’ option to clear phones data & cache. This step is must in order to solve the boot loops issue.

Step 9: Similarly flash the Google Apps (containing Google Play Store, Maps, Gmail, GTalk etc.) as you’ve flashed the Cyanogenmod 12.1 custom ROM. Just remember not to wipe data/cache after flashing it.

Step 10: Return back and select the ‘reboot system now’ option  to restart your Samsung Galaxy W i8150 smartphone. You’ll notice that the boot takes more time to start than usual. But don’t worry after a couple of boots it’ll be normal.

Note: If you want to restore back your previous saved Rom, then boot your Galaxy W into recovery mode and select ‘Backup and Restore’ option and then on next page select ‘Restore’ option. Then select the saved ROM you want to restore.
