Issue 2 Autumn 2013 What has happened so far! December 2012 - Big Kirk Hallam £1m resident-led programme launched (for the next ten years.) January - June 2013 over 1200 residents have shared priorities for action that Big Kirk Hallam should focus on. A resident-led steering group is established to take these priorities forward. (see Priorities.) May 2013 - Kirk Hallam Community Technology and Sports College chosen as the Local Trusted Organisation to audit the Big Kirk Hallam funds. June 2013 - £20,000 released to help support events over the Summer and to start a Community Chest to give out small grants to local groups to help make Kirk Hallam an even better place to live. For more information about the Community Chest contact; [email protected] September 2013 - Big Kirk Hallam appoints a Co-ordinator to construct the plan of how the funds will be allocated and an administrator to help to keep all records in order. A new logo has been designed for use on Big Kirk Hallam literature (the two winning designers were thanked by Steering Group Chair Brian Cooper and presented with a £20 prize for their efforts.)

Over the summer Big Kirk Hallam will be supporting and taking part in a number of big events in the area. We hope that you will come and talk over your hopes and vision to make Kirk Hallam an even better place to live.

Autumn Fair at the Kirk Hallam Community Technology and Sports College, 21st September 10am – 3pm

Harvest Moon at Pioneer Meadows, off Wirksworth Drive, 21st September 2.30 – 7pm

Access and environment A nicer environment, with less litter, graffiti and dog mess Improved shopping area and places to eat Improved disabled access to shops Safety through tackling vandalism Better transport around Kirk Hallam and to city centres

Quality of life Supporting families Supporting vulnerable people (drugs and alcohol) Community spirit and celebration Tackling hardship and poverty

Education and training Apprenticeships, training and jobs Improved access to nursery and after school provision
