Music

Music in the first term will focus on the music of Michael Jackson.

In the second term, music will focus on jazz and blues music.

Maths

Our main focus for maths will be the development and re-enforcement of

numbers skills, dividing, multiplying, subtracting and adding, both discretely and by applying in problem solving activities.

We’ll also be taking problem solving further by practicing the skills of

visualising and constructing calculations in the real world.

Times tables and mental maths will also continue to play a vital part in

the maths learning.

Finally, any general arithmetic gaps will be worked on.

ENGLISH

We will be basing our reading and writing on the book ‘George’s

Cosmic Treasure Hunt’.

We will all be developing our spelling, grammar and punctuation

skills alongside increasing our vocabulary and practicing the neatest

handwriting.

Fiction Writing: Swan class will be planning and writing out own

adventure stories based on Mars, working on our descriptive writing

skills and exploring some of Shakespeare’s works.

Non-Fiction: Pupils will use the knowledge they have gained from

the topic to write a non-chronological report about the Solar System, write biographies about a chosen astronaut or space scientist and persuasive writing to advertise

homes on alternative planets.

Art/DTPupils will use a variety of artistic skills

as they: -Design, make and evaluate a new Mars

Rover-Design art work that represents

galaxies- Analyse, design and create their own versions of Van Gogh’s Starry Night

Computing

Pupils will continue to learn about behaving safely and SMART online. They will also use computers to research and present information during our Science-based topic.

History/Geography

The topic for the term is ‘Mission to Mars’ and is

heavily science-based, but the children will be learning about historical viewpoints about our

Solar System and the conditions on Mars.

RE / PSHCE

In RE pupils will discuss debates between Creation and Science, why people do or do not believe in God and Harvest. They will also be looking at the Christian festival of Christmas.

Science

We will be exploring Space and the Solar System.

Pupils will learn all about the planet Mars, the other planets

in our Solar System, describing the movement of

the Earth and other planets as well as investigating forces.

Entry Point : Entry point: One day, humans may need to leave Earth and settle on another planet. Mars is our most likely destination – a world that we believe once harboured life and, with our intervention, may do so again in the future.
