To be completed by the candidate. This page records initial meeting(s) with your supervisor to agree your project proposal.

Your first idea for topic/title

Why do serial killers kill? What characteristics do serial killers have in childhood?

Your first ideas for research and development of your project

I have decided to research the following things that I think will be usefull. I could look at a number of Television Documentries, for example I could look at the television programme called The Moors Murders. I could find a number of books from a library or from the internet. I could talk to people who work with these people, use the internet e.g. wikipeadia, however I know I will have to be careful with this site because people can easily give false information and also Biographies could help with my research.

Your supervisor’s main comments and advice

My supervisor has advised me to do the following:Use a wide range of resources when completeing your projectGave me a few serial killers he thought I could look atMake sure you are happy with topic as you may come along some disturbing thingsThink about how to word your question Think about how sensitive this question could be to certain people.

Changes, clarifications or additions you have made as a result of your discussion with your supervisor

After having my meeting with my supervisors I know that I am going to have to think about where I am going to go with this topic. It could actually cover a lot of things and some of the things I find out I could be quite disturbing so I must make sure I am okay with what i am doing. Now that I have spoken to my supervisor I know that I wouldn rather go down the root of characteristics of serial killers rather than why the kill or how the kill. I will do this because I know that otherwise I will come across quite disturbing things and I would like to keep that to a minimum. However I know I will still come across a bit of disturbing information but that wont put me off too much so that I have to change my topic completely.I don’t think I am going to talk to people who work with serial killers as much as I would like to as it would be quite difficult to sort out an interview with them, also there is the issue of it being quite a sensitive subject and wether they can actually give information like that out to me so I will have to find a way aroung this e.g. look at journals from the internet or biographies of famous serial killers.

Outline the next steps in your planned research/initial development

Now that I have completed my record of initial planning and my Project proposal A I know where abouts I would like to go with my project, instead of looking at the details of how a serial killer kills I am going to see if we can actually predict a serial killer from childhood characteristics. I know need to have a look for a various bits of research from all different sources for my project. I aim to have got a fair amount of research done for my project by the 30 th of November 2012. This research will help me to start my project and help me to complete the first draft of 1,000 words I aim to write for the 10 th of December.
