Monday 23 rd March Literacy- Free Verse Poetry Over the next two weeks we will be looking at ‘free verse’ poetry and having a go at writing our own free verse poems. We will primarily be using the poems by Michael Rosen and Roger McGough. We have looked at one of Michael Rosen’s poems in the past – remember the one about chocolate cake? To jog your memory, here’s a link to the video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BxQLITdOOc Please read For Naomi and then answer these questions: 1. What does it tell the reader about Rosen as a man, as a poet, as a dad? 2. Why did he put ‘writes poems’ last? 3. How do you think Naomi might view her dad? 4. What other embarrassing things do parents do? 5. How does the form of this poem differ from traditional ones? This poem is an example of a genre of poetry called ‘free verse’. Discuss with a parent/sibling what is meant by the term free verse. Can you come up with your own definition? Read a selection of Rosen’s poetry: I Know Someone Who Can, Talking-tubes, Mr Baggs, Great Day, The Deal, The Shop Downstairs, Sweetshop. They discuss their favourite poems with a parent/sibling explaining why they like that poem, referring to the vocabulary used as well as the subject matter, the layout, the structure, etc. Maths – Using Fractions as Operators For today’s maths, you will be putting all the knowledge that you’ve learnt about fractions over the last few weeks into use. I have put the answers at the end of the PDF document because a few parents have asked for them. Children – you need to be honest and not look at the answers until you have finished working.

Monday 23 rd March Literacy- Free Verse Poetry

Over the next two weeks we will be looking at ‘free verse’ poetry and having a go at writing our own free verse poems.

We will primarily be using the poems by Michael Rosen and Roger McGough.

We have looked at one of Michael Rosen’s poems in the past – remember the one about chocolate cake? To jog your memory, here’s a link to the video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BxQLITdOOc

Please read For Naomi and then answer these questions:1.

Maths – Using Fractions as Operators

For today’s maths, you will be putting all the knowledge that you’ve learnt about fractions over the last few weeks into use. I have put the answers at the end of the PDF document because a few parents have asked for them. Children – you need to be honest and not look at the answers until you have finished working.

Please complete questions 1a-8b of both the fluency and the reasoning/problem solving.

Gil, Teddy, Gracie, Aggie, Eliza, Sid and Harry, please complete questions 9a-12b of the fluency and 4a-9b of the reasoning/problem solving.

A top tip for this piece of work; remember what the ‘=’ means.

Please also make sure that you are logging onto TTRS – I will be checking!

Topic / History

Research what life would have been like for a child living in Ancient Greece.

Try and find out how things like: toys, clothes, education, work and food would be compared to the life of a modern child. You could present your findings as a poster, power point presentation or a written fact file – be as creative as you wish!

SPAG - Simple past tense and present perfect tense

Starter Activity: Read the paragraph below. Can you identify the verbs? Can you then separate the verbs into ‘past ideas’ and ‘present ideas’?

My friend Kashaan has lived in this town for five years and we have been best friends all that time. Before he came to our town, he was in Birmingham but his mum got a new job so the family moved here. When I met Kashaan, he spoke with a ‘brummie’ accent, but his dad says he has taken on the way I speak, so now he sounds as if he has been here all his life!
