Position Purpose

The Kaitiaki Pūtea ā Whakahaere is a shift in focus and delivery. This new position will report to the Pou Pakihi Matua (Chief Financial Officer) and will be a member of the Senior Leaders Team.

The Kaitiaki Pūtea ā Whakahaere will be required to deliver a new approach to service the Trust and all of its business activities including that of its subsidiary, through management or managerial accounting practices. It will be the role of the Kaitiaki Pūtea ā Whakahaere to implement this change from compliance to servicing and support to enable the Trust and its management teams to make decisions concerning the day-to-day operations, in a timely manner; and mitigating any and all associated risk.

The management accounting practice will be deliberate in its intent and contribute to developing a culture of ‘collective responsibility’, by the management team from planning to reporting. The Kaitiaki Pūtea ā Whakahaere will lead a small dedicated finance and accounts team to ensure regulatory and

compliance processes are being achieved to an optimal standard. The responsibility will provide new management accounting practises and integration of internal controls in line with accepted accounting standards. This role requires an experienced Management Accountant.

Key functions in this position will include working across the organisation to guide and support the operations and prepare, develop and analyse financial information to ensure future stability, profitability and growth. The position holder will need to be looking ahead, analysing business performance and advising on how to pre-empt problems and adapt to changing circumstances and developments. This new role combines accounting skills with effective management practice and concise communication to both financial and non-financial management.

The Kaitiaki Pūtea ā Whakahaere will support the Pou Pakihi Matua to ensure the development of policy, practice, procedures and systems for implementation in and across the organisation; and be responsible for the successful delivery of funding to Kōhanga Reo

The Kaitiaki Pūtea ā Whakahaere is also expected to provide daily updates to the Pou Pakihi Matua and/or Chief Executive on all financial and accounting services; as appropriate. Where there is a need to elevate matters of risk to the organisation and its business this must be treated as a priority on a ‘no surprises’ basis.

The Finance and Accounts Team Purpose

The Finance and Accounts Team will work across the organisation to guide and support the operations and prepare, develop and analyse financial information to ensure future stability, profitability and growth.

The Senior Leaders Team is responsible for building efficiency and effectiveness throughout the organisation. To ensure the leadership structure is well maintained, members of this team will be forward looking thinkers who are highly skilled and capable of working at a strategic level. The Kaitiaki Pūtea ā Whakahaere will be able to provide well considered advice and support on a range of financial service deliverables.

Financial Management & Practice

Proactively pursues new funding opportunities and keeps abreast of potential revenue opportunities, new income streams to support the organisation

Maintains financial management systems, policies, standards and reporting requirements, including:

the general ledger; fixed asset register; creditors and debtors function, daily cash investments, borrowings, and any other financial transactions as appropriate or as directed

Identifying risk and/or exposure to ensure appropriate treatment is applied

monitors, analyses and reports on the business performance against targets including use of on line purchasing system

completing the balance sheet and monthly balance sheet reconciliations

managing the preparation of the year‐end Financial Accounts and the finance content of the Annual Report

Manage procurement processes and associated financial and external reporting requirements (TEC, IRD, MOE etc)

Report on systemic processes to ensure standardisation of practices and provide advice and support for system based accounting and any new proposed programmes, where required

New income streams created.

Financial practices and procedures are managed in accordance with the required accounting standards for the Trust and its subsidiary

Candidate Requirements

The ideal Candidate will possess the following experience and qualifications:

Qualifications Applicants should be degree qualified in Commerce and/or Finance with practical experience in a senior role and CA or CPA qualified

Experience A minimum of two years in a supervisor or management role in financeSkills and knowledge CA or CPA qualified or equivalent

Experience in both financial and management accounting Advanced communication skills(written and verbal) Strong planning, organisational and management skills Advanced level of Microsoft excel knowledge Experienced user of financial accounting software Some Māori language proficiency would be an advantage.
