Educate an orphan and vulnerable child Back ground information Approximately 75,000 children in Balaka have lost parents mostly to the AIDS pandemic. These children have extra responsibilities to find basic needs for their lives. Many children have dropped out of school and some turned to theft and prostitution to survive. Philadephia Foundation shall help orphans who have shown dedication to go back to school and learn skills to be self-sufficient in adulthood. We shall provide critical support i.e. fees, books and clothes to keep these orphans in school The project area is at Balaka district of Malawi. The estimated population of the target area is 371,000. Like other areas of Malawi, the problem of HIV has become a serious issue that calls for urgent intervention from different stakeholders. Malawi’s eastern region district has a worrisome HIV/AIDS prevalence rate of 16%, a situation presently haunting Balaka district which outdoes the national HIV/AIDS prevalence statistics with about 6%. The national prevalence rate is pegged at 10.6%.and has gone as high as 16%. Children living under poverty are usually exposed to various and complicated forms of abuses. They are exposed to various types of economic, psycho social and health problems. More severely exposed are those children who have been orphaned and still more severe would it be for children orphaned due to AIDS. Life gets harder for them, because they have lacked Appropriate Parental love and care, adequate nutrition, clothing, maltreatment and abuse, and less legal protection. Health problems due to malnutrition, poor sanitation and poor (environmental) living

Educate an orphan and vulnerable child

Back ground information

Approximately 75,000 children in Balaka have lost parents mostly to the AIDS pandemic. These children have extra responsibilities to find basic needs for their lives. Many children have dropped out of school and some turned to theft and prostitution to survive. Philadephia Foundation shall help orphans who have shown dedication to go back to school and learn skills to be self-sufficient in adulthood. We shall provide critical support i.e. fees, books and clothes to keep these orphans in school

The project area is at Balaka district of Malawi.

Health problems due to malnutrition, poor sanitation and poor (environmental) living are wide spread, they lack appropriate education, and missing adequate education is so severe especially in this part of the world because education is the most appropriate way out to escape the intergenerational poverty. The orphan crisis has had profound social and economic impacts undermining decades of social advances and threatening to destabilize entire societies. The care of orphans often falls to impoverished grandparents, many of who depended on financial support from adult children who died of AIDS.

Description of the proposed project

Many orphans have no hope for the future. They don't have basic education and end up struggling with life. Some become victims of early marriages, teenage pregnancies and drugs abuse. Philadephia Foundation shall reach them and helps them return to school. We are committed to helping orphans overcome all obstacles that interfere with their success in school i.e. lack of money for fees, books and clothes.

Objective of the Project

This project will help provide school fees, food, books, clothes, book cases and shoes for the orphans to be successful in school. This will solely rely on the support of donors from across the globe to provide the items that are critical for the Orphans to attend school, and for us to provide the additional support and services needed for them to be successful. Vulnerable children will be provided with educational materials & school support, health & sanitation support, clothing and nutritional support.
