Monday June 1st:1) This week’s Starlight story is about the circus. Create a word map on the theme of

‘circus’. Write the word circus in the middle of a page and draw a ring around it. Write as many words as you can think of that relate to a circus. Some examples might be clown, ringmaster, circle…

2) This week you are going to practice your subtraction. Open Hit the Button on the internet like last week, but this time select ‘Number Bonds’ and ‘Subtraction within 20’.

3) Maths: We are moving onto ‘addition with regrouping’ now. Parents please do not use the term ‘carry on’ as you would have used when you were in school. Have a look at the yellow box at the top of Busy at Maths p143. You have 1 ten and 14 units. We can bunch 10 of the units together and ‘regroup’ them as 1 ten. We start with

Page 6:  · Web viewThis week’s Starlight story is about the circus. Create a word map on the theme of ‘circus’. Write the word circus in the middle of a page and draw a ring around

1 ten and 14 units and we regroup to form 2 tens and 4 units. Play this video to help you further http://data.cjfallon.ie/resources/19619/activity-143/index.html. Say we had 1 ten and 27 units. We could ‘regroup’ 20 of the units into 2 tens so now we have 3 tens and 7 units.Complete p143.

4) Lie on your back and try to get up without using your hands. If you manage this, lie on your stomach and try to get up without using your hands.

Tuesday June 2nd:1) English: This week our narrative story this week is called “The Circus Comes to Town”.

First discuss the new words (in bold) with an adult at the bottom of page 66 of your Starlight. Then read the text. Have you been to a circus? Maybe have a chat about it with an adult.

2) Hit the Button – Can you beat your record?3) Maths: Study the yellow box at the top of Busy at Maths p144. Read what the girl says

carefully. Look at this tutorial - http://data.cjfallon.ie/resources/19619/activity-144/index.html

Always add the units column first, regroup and then add the tens column. It is vital that you write the ‘little 1 with a ring around it’ in the tens column to show how many units you have regrouped. Complete page 144.

4) Science/History: Has the electricity ever gone out in your house? What did you miss about it? What did people do before electricity was invented? What would life have been like then? Write out a list of the items in your house that use electricity. Have a look at Small World p94. Thursday June 4th:1) Starlight p67 Activity B – New vocabulary from the text.2) Hit the Button – Can you beat your record?3) Maths: Complete Busy at Maths p146 Parts 1,2,3 and 4.

When we add two numbers we sometimes have to ‘regroup’ and sometimes we don’t. If you add the units and there 9 or less you don’t have to ‘regroup’ as you don’t have enough units to make a ten, If you add the units and you have more than 9 you can make a ten and so you have to ‘regroup’. Try this activity http://data.cjfallon.ie/resources/19619/activity-146/index.html Complete p146 q5 – do you have to regroup or not?

4) Science: Electricity is a type of energy. You know that electricity comes from the socket in your wall but how is it made and how does it get to the socket? for 10 seconds and run backwards for 10 seconds without letting the potato drop. Rest for 15 seconds and try it again.
