Background:

Coventry City of Culture Trust are working with strategic partners and stakeholders, local businesses, local artists, cultural organisations, and resident groups to deliver an amazing and ambitious year of culture in 2021/2022. By inspiring leading artists to work with us, whilst also supporting a new generation of makers, nurturing the creativity of young people, welcoming communities to collaborate, partnering with local schools and universities and removing barriers to attendance, we, along with our city partners, encourage everyone to participate in the creative life of their City and region.

Who we’re looking for:

For each of the roles, we are looking for individuals with a proven track record in the particular discipline and experience of being the leading practitioner. We are particularly interested in artists with experience of working outdoors and in collaboration with others, working closely with both professionals and community participants.

We are looking for artists who will bring energy, ambition and an abundance of creativity to the role. A sense of personal discipline and self-management will be required, as well as being a team player.

The Roles

The Movement Director will hold the overarching movement narrative, blending many styles of dance that magnify moments in Coventry’s story. They will be adept at using contemporary vocabulary and be innovative in presenting work of scale outdoors using sound and costume to heighten the performance. Working with a range of professional dancers and community participants the Movement Director will have a vision for the big picture as well as an eye for detail.

The Music Director will be responsible for creating the over-arching delivery of the music score, this may include composition, recording, arranging rehearsals, blending different styles and genres together, and working with both Coventry’s famous music talent and community performers.

The Assistant Director will be assisting the Director, organising and running rehearsals. There will be an element of casting and originating work in line with the creative ambition for the event. Experience of working with both professionals and community will be essential as will working with multiple groups simultaneously.

The Community Facilitators will need to have an agility to their work, be present in the chosen communities for the creation of the material and to work collaboratively with the communities to bring the creative ambition to life. They will be required to run rehearsals, work within the Trust’s H&S policies and build strong relationships with community groups. They will facilitate working with the groups with other creatives such as choreographers and music creatives

The work will be for the intensive period of January to May 2021 - all of the roles will include evening and weekend work.

These are paid roles based on a freelance fee

All postholders are expected to participate in training and development activity and to contribute time and expertise to supporting our training programmes on site and occasionally off site.

This list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and team members will be required to perform duties outside of this as operationally required.
