24th June 2019 Mangere East Primary Math-a-thon 2019 Dear Parents, Our Math-a-thon is designed to improve the children’s numeracy knowledge as well as help us to raise funds for the school. The fundraiser requires the children to learn their numeracy knowledge at home every day/night for approximately two weeks. The numeracy facts have been organised into stages 1- 5. Your child will be given the appropriate stage for their current level of knowledge. Year 1 and 2 - 15 minutes Year 3 and 4 - 20 minutes Year 5 and 6 - 30 minutes Year 7 and 8 - 45 minutes Children need to approach family and friends to ask for sponsorship of 20c or just give a donation is fine as it is about Maths not the money. We do not encourage the children to approach strangers. The children have a time allocated on their numeracy sheet whereby they must complete correctly as many numeracy knowledge questions as they can. The children need to start practising their numeracy knowledge now and will have just over two weeks to collect sponsors. The children will be tested on Friday 26 nd July (Term3 Week 1). The children can collect the money and bring it in with their sponsorship sheets to their classroom teacher by Thursday 23rd August (Term 3 week 5]). A prize will be given to children who have collected the most sponsorship money from each year level category as shown above.
