MDYF is proud to continue offering our young theatre community the space to share and experience the most real things about themselves and their world. Attached is your 2014 Registration Package, which will provide you with information about the festival and all the forms you’ll need to register your group. Welcome to the 33rd Annual Manitoba Drama Youth Festival! MDYF is proud to continue offering our young theatre community the space to share and experience the most real things about themselves and their world. Whether you are joining us for the first time or returning with a group of young thespians, this year’s festival is sure to engage and inspire another generation of theatre artists and allies.

Attached is your 2014 Registration Package, which will provide you with information about the festival and all the

forms you’ll need to register your group. Please take a few minutes to carefully read the details in this package and make note of the registration deadlines. Please return these forms as soon as you can in order to secure a place at this year’s Festival.

Details You Need To Know:Dates: May 6th and 7th, 2014

Times: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (a detailed breakdown of the day will accompany the workshop registration sheet on March 24th)

Location: Prairie Theatre Exchange in Portage Place Shopping Centre(3rd Floor – 393 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg)

Performance: All explorations of the theatrical arts are welcome (original scenes, stylized plays, collective creation, excerpts, mixed media, one-act plays, etc.) Don’t think you will have a finished piece before May? No Problem! Works in progress are more than welcome to be entered. Performance spaces are limited so please register early!

Check Us Out: Want to attend the festival without performing? Schools are invited to participate in the festival as audience members and workshop participants. It is a wonderful chance to connect with other actors and learn through workshops. Be inspired by watching great performances from your peers!

Workshops: Stay tuned for this year’s line-up to be emailed out by March 24th.Previous years have featured workshops such as Shakespeare, Musical Theatre, Improv, Stage Combat, Commedia Dell’Arte, Film Acting and more!

How to Register: Please fill out and return the MDYF Registration Form. Once your registration is received, an email will be sent with the Program Information Sheet and Technical Questionnaire (also to be filled out and returned if applicable). The Workshop Registration Form will be sent out by March 24 th with this year’s line-up. Please take note of all due dates for Registration Forms in the section below.

Tech Rehearsals: Any schools performing MUST attend a tech rehearsal on Monday, May 5th in the evening (exact times TBA). If you do not attend this rehearsal you will be limited to a general lighting wash for the duration of your performance and will have no access to sound cues. (special arrangements will be made for rural schools).

Registration Fees: - Non-refundable registration fee per school of $50 - 1 day attendance fee per student $20- 2 days attendance per student $35

*all fees due on or before May 2, 2014

TEACHER’S TIDBITS:Schedule:

· Check-in for the day will be between 8:15 and 9:00 a.m. with festival programming starting at 9:00 a.m. At this year’s festival, workshops will be in the morning and performances will be in the afternoon on each day. End of day is 5:00pm.

Lunch:· A lunch space will be provided for festival participants and teachers who choose to remain

at PTE and not eat lunch in the mall food court. In this case, please bring bag lunches that do not require refrigeration and/or microwaving. (Important: Please avoid nut and fish products.)

If your school is performing:· Your tentative performance time will be emailed to you by mid April as a confirmation.· Students will introduce the performance pieces this year – please give some

thought to which student(s) you would ask to do this on behalf of your class and include this introduction as one of the lighting cues in your script.

· Adjudication: Each performance will receive adjudication that will be relayed in a spirit of encouragement, professionalism and love of the theatre. Your students will receive feedback on 1. What they are doing well and 2. What can be improved upon.
