Fourth Sunday of Advent December 18, 2016 They shall name him Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.” — Matthew 1:23 Fourth Sunday of Advent In today’s Gospel we hear of the coming of Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.” We celebrate three Advents: the birth of Christ, his Second Coming, and his presence in the world today. Our daily lives are attended by God’s presence. Indeed, “God is with us.” The Good News of Christ’s Incarnation is that we are the sign, “sacrament,” of Christ’s presence in the world. People are supposed to see us, see how we love one another, see how we treat the stranger among us, give comfort to the poor and afflicted, share the Good News with joy. They see how good stewards are the light of Christ. Through this note, my wife Rita and I, wish to greet our community of Saint Ferdinand Church. We have had the privilege of becoming: Proclaimers of the Word of God, Extraordinary ministers of the Holy Eucharist, ministers of hospitality, adult catechists, and members of various groups and ministries. We participated in the parish fiesta for many years and in the organization and development of the three Spanish-language masses. Lastly, I served as an ordained deacon. Now, with a mixture of joy and sadness, I wish to inform you that I have been assigned to the parish of Saint Camillus Center and as a Chaplain at the LAC+USC Hospital, where I will be mainly providing spiritual support to the patients, family and staff of the hospital. I begin this new assignment as of January 1, 2017. With the permission of our pastor, Reverend Father Juan, I will be assisting in some of the masses on the 18, 24 and 25 of December as well as January 1, 2017. I wish to take this opportunity to thank our pastor, reverend Father Juan Ayala for all his support, patience and understanding in my ministry as well as Father Carlos for all of his help. May the Lord give you a Merry Christmas and a happy, prosperous New Year.Your servant in the Lord: Deacon Orlando Rubio and Family.

Celebrating Faith and Community…Thank YouDuring this season of Advent we have had three special celebrations of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Sinbang Gabi Mass.  Each celebration centered in our faith in Jesus Christ, called to be community and celebrated bilingually.  We thank all the organizers, volunteers and all of you who participated in these events, which were very beautiful.  Let us continue working together and celebrate our various cultures, traditions and languages as one and never be divided.

USING YOUR PARISH ENVELOPES!We would like to remind all parishioners; especially those parents of children attending St. Ferdinand School to use your parish envelopes.
