HANCOCK IS THE CAPTAIN OF OUR

SHIP!!!!

This tour is Perins School’s 5th adventure to South Africa-an excellent

indicator of the phenomenal experiences enjoyed by all on previous trips.

The combination of playing sport in a country with such proud sporting

traditions, learning of a fascinating national history, witnessing wonderful

sights, participating in exhilarating adventure and enjoying delightful

hospitality from people of different cultures all adds up to providing

every tourist with one of their most memorable and influential chapters

of their lives.

The experience generates memories which will remain forever and helps

pupils to forge a positive outlook towards life.

In anticipation of another fantastic adventure, we thank all of you that we

meet in South Africa for helping to make our two weeks so special.

Thank you and best wishes,

Christopher Hancock

Acknowledgements

Perins Sports Tour 2015 is the largest tour to date, with 80 children and 10

members of staff able to experience this fantastic opportunity. This is only

possible due to the amazing and vital contribution of numerous sponsors,

local businesses, staff, parents, students and volunteers.

The tireless hard work and extreme kindness and generosity of all the

individuals involved during the fundraising projects has been immense.

Whether it was organising large events, such as the Sports Dinner, taking

students to local supermarkets or even selling ice-creams at local events,

every action has made a vital impact.

This once in a lifetime opportunity would not be possible without your

support and we cannot thank you enough for your involvement. We would

need a whole new booklet to list all that have contributed and so we do not

miss anybody out, we as a PE department, would like all to know that we

recognise and appreciate everybody who has chipped in to help.

Here’s to another great Perins Sports Tour!

In the morning on this day there will be a two hour training session. After

the training session we will transfer to Table Mountain. Here is where we

will take a Cable Car up the mountain. We will then transfer back to our

accommodation.

The Table Mountain cableway is South Africa’s third most popular

tourist attraction, not least because it transports the visitor to an

experience of immense serenity in the sky. As it speeds past the

mountain’s craggy granite face the rotating floor gives everyone a 360º

view, the sound of the city silenced 1000m below.

DAY 4-SATURDAY 18th JULY-CAPE TOWN

Once we have checked out of the hotel we will then head to our first

match against BERGVLIET HIGH SCHOOL. After the game we will enjoy a

post match function with our hosts and then depart for Robben Island.

Here, we will have a tour of the world famous prison, including a chance

to glimpse the cell where Nelson Mandela himself was held. Once we are

done here we will then transfer to our next accommodation which is the

Protea Hotel Breakwater Lodge.

The ferry crossing will give a stunning view of the "Mother City''

with its Table Mountain Backdrop. The history of Robben Island

goes back thousands of years. In centuries past it was used as

a pantry and source of raw materials by seafarers and colonists

and as a whaling station, hospital, mental asylum and military

base. Robben Island is best known as a place of banishment.

The most famous prisoner who spent 19 of his 27 years of in-

carceration here was Nelson Mandela. A former inmate will
