All piercings should be removed apart from one earring in each earlobe, if desired. If your daughter intends to have her nose or upper ear pierced, she will need to do so right at the start of the holiday, as she will not be permitted to wear these adornments at school and will be asked to remove them.

The blazer and the new style darker jumper are optional for students in Years 10 and 11. The blazer is compulsory for all students in Years 7, 8 and 9.

All marked or ripped uniform should be replaced.

Farewells to staff As always at this time of year a number of staff leave our school. All have given a great deal to our students, inspiring a love of their subject and supporting students both in the classroom and in their extra-curricular activities. Mrs Brundish (DT), Mrs Curtis (Science) and Mrs Martin (Science) have worked at Rosebery for over 30 years between them and have therefore had a greater impact than most on the lives of hundreds of Rosebery students. We also warmly thank and say farewell to Ms Wright (MFL), Mrs Byrne (AHT and SENDCo) and Mrs Gibbins (DH) who are moving to senior leadership positions elsewhere. Miss Elwell (Psychology), Miss Green (Art), Mr Talkington (Maths), Mr Seth (Maths), Mrs Kainth (Psychology), Mr Bowker (Science), Ms Gill (English), Mr Rattos (Geography) and Ms Levesque (Sociology) are all moving onto new roles in other schools and Mr Reid (Science) is also leaving us for a year’s sabbatical abroad; we wish them well for their new ventures. We also offer our sincere congratulations to Miss Nejad who has given birth to a baby boy in the last week, and to Miss Lowe who is getting married over the summer. I will write to introduce the new teaching staff and changes to the Leadership Team to you in September; it may be useful to you to have confirmation of the Heads of Year and Deputy Heads of Year at this stage, however:

I would also like to express my gratitude to the staff and governors who have worked so hard and once again highlight what a privilege it is to work with such a great group of students who try so hard, give so much and are a delight to be with. Emma Simpson 7EY, Bethan Massey 7CX and Amy Watts 7CX participated in the ‘2017 United Kingdom U13 Girls Regional Hockey Championship', held at the weekend at Manchester University. The three girls all played for the Southern Saxons, representing the South of England. Their team won the penalty shuffle knock-out competition and came fifth overall in the championship. They had a great time and lots of fun staying in the University halls of residence! As a result of the weekend Amy was also selected for the United Kingdom Lions U13 Girls squad. She will be joining a new squad of 24 girls from across the UK to play throughout the UK and internationally.

What a fantastic achievement, The PE Staff

On Tuesday 6 July four students were chosen to go

Beacon School to complete a debating workshop. The

Beacon debating team have participated in a number

of contests and recently did very well in a regional

competition. We feel we learnt a lot from them. The

workshop included some other GLF Schools: Glyn,

De Stafford and Meridian High, who each volunteered

a team of 4-6 pupils.

The workshop focused on the formalities of debating

and how to form a winning argument. We spent the

majority of our time participating in activities and

games, which were created and led by the Beacon

students. They were dedicated to help us understand

the key techniques in debating. We also watched

them argue the case that they had put forward for

their competition, and at the end of the session we had a debate against De Stafford about whether junk food

advertising should be banned. Our team was for the opposition, so we had to argue that junk food advertising is in

fact important and should not be prohibited. We all got very involved in the planning, and all contributed helpful

information, including Ms Foster who helped us understand some key points.

Anna Champness 8MY, Lois Núñez-Jarrett 8MY, Safa Hamid 8MY and Caroline Young 8CY stepped forward and gave

a sophisticated debate that turned out to be very successful - as we won! The day was wonderful in bringing students

from other schools together and we loved the opportunity to take part in a formal debate.

Ms N Foster, English Department

The Music Department would like to congratulate

Bethany Rochester 11PX for passing her Grade 5 Theory with Merit!

Surrey Youth Games 2017

This year I have had an amazing Surrey

Youth Games experience and Rosebery

has played a big part in Epsom and

Ewell’s outcome. Coming second

overall, Epsom and Ewell won the

highest team entry award with a total of

33 teams across the 15 sports available.

This year I was an ambassador for

Rosebery as well as playing in the touch

tennis which Epsom and Ewell won!

Because of my achievement and the

many other medals won by Epsom and

Ewell, I attended the presentation

evening for our borough on Wednesday 12 July along with many others from Rosebery. Here we celebrated all the

many achievements of Epsom and Ewell with many individual awards, some going to Rosebery students.

Hannah Palmer 10CY won Volunteer of the Year and Ellie Parris 7MY won Young Ambassador of the Year. Overall this

year’s Surrey Youth Games was an amazing year for Epsom and Ewell and Rosebery.

our Taiwanese visiting students this

year.

We have had five visits from different schools across Taiwan. Our students have made excellent buddies, teaching the

Taiwanese to improve their English. They have visited lessons and taken part in a wide range of school activities.
