An example of when I need Stamina (Cardio - Respiratory Endurance) in my performance

Activity Example

BasketballI need Cardio – respiratory endurance in this activity so that I can make repeated runs forward to support my team attacking and then get back to defend. I need to be able to sustain this work rate for the whole game.

Badminton

I need endurance in this activity to be able to play a 3 set match to 21 points and be able to sustain my work rate and skills over a long period.

An example of when I need reaction time in my performance

Volleyball

I need a fast reaction time in this activity to be able to adjust my feet and dive to get to a low serve

Athletics

I need a fast reaction time in this activity to be able to react to the gun so that I get a powerful start ahead of my opponents to give me an advantage.

An example of agility in my performance

Football

I need agility in this activity to be able to change my direction quickly when the ball is deflected and is heading in a different direction to the one I was expecting.

An example of balance in my performance

BasketballI need balance in this activity to be able to stop, get my centre of gravity over my base, plant my feet hip width apart e in a stable position to aim. Also so that I can transfer my weight to get power and accuracy into my shot.

Athletics

I need balance in this activity to be able to keep my position as I complete my triple jump. My take off foot must be under my centre of gravity so I can push up in the hop phase, land over my foot to take off in the step phase and then in the last phase I need a powerful lift off to keep my balance in the air so that I can push my feet forward when landing in the pit.

Combinations Power and Agility

Power is a combination of speed and strength

I need power in football to jump and get above the striker to clear the header.

Agility is a combination of speed and coordination

I need agility in basketball to change direction quickly to get back and delay the attacking player who has got away from his marker.
