Dear Parents and Carers, Thank you to all the families who supported both the Book Week Dress Up Day and the Open Night last week. It was wonderful to see so many parents celebrating their children’s successes on the night as I moved through the classrooms. Congratulations to all the students who participated in the dance performance and a sincere thank you to Mrs Barrett for organising this experience for the children. Thank you also to all the families who participated in the Science Week Scavenger Hunt and attended Bunnings Joondalup on Saturday 21st August for a day of fun activities and the prize draw. I congratulate the families that won the Scavenger Hunt. I would like to acknowledge the wonderful support from the team at Bunnings Joondalup and in particular to Ms Froud for her excellent leadership of this event. The support of parents for school events is a strength of our school. Assembly The staff and students of TA16 will host an assembly tomorrow morning in the undercover assembly area. All staff are most welcome to attend. Lapathon The Lapathon will be hosted tomorrow on the school oval for all students commencing at 11.30am through to 1pm. The theme for this year is Olympic heroes. I am sure the children will enjoy the experience and hopefully we will raise some funds in support of physical education equipment and the provision of shade in the school. Assessments We have a busy assessment schedule in the coming weeks with students completing the Spelling Inventory assessments this week, Spelling, Grammar, Reading and Maths tests next week and some of our younger students completing phonics screens in week nine and ten. Student attendance is very important in the coming weeks to maximise the children’s participation in gathering this performance information. eNEWS NEWS HIGHLIGHTS TO INFORM OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY Week 7 - Thursday 2nd September 2021

If you would like reminding of your Connect parent/carer username and password, please contact the School Office on 6207 6100. Lost Property We have a large collection of unmarked lost property waiting to be reunited with their rightful owners, on the bench behind the School Office. If your child is missing an item of clothing, lunch box or water bottle, please check the lost property when you are in school next. Hopefully we can save you some money on buying replacement items.

A FUN-FILLED SCIENCE WEEK FAMILY FUN DAY

Thank you to all of you who took part in our Sustainability Scavenger Hunt during Science Week and attended the fantastic Bunnings Joondalup Science Week Family Fun Day on Saturday 21st August. Lots of local families visited Bunnings for the event which featured an array of activities and workshops including live science experiments to learn about science and sustainability. They had the chance to pet some very cute animals including lambs, chickens, guinea pigs and rabbits thanks to Swan Valley Cuddly Animal Farm, cooking demos and free food tastings including Lavender icecream courtesy of Yanchep Lavender Farm. They also had the opportunity to decorate their own plant pot and plant herbs and vegetables, plus the chance to learn all about the fascinating life of bees from The Bee Man.

Many thanks to the Mayor of the City of Joondalup, Mayor Albert Jacob who randomly selected the prize draw winners of our Sustainability Scavenger Hunt – from all those who entered their completed Scavenger Hunt booklets into the prize draw. Congratulations to the winners, who are all students of Currambine Primary School:

Winner: Shon P (Prize: Tumbleweed Can-O-Worms Worm Farm & Live Composting Worms Starter Pack)

Second Runner-Up: Lois P (Prize: Yates Starter Pack)

Third Runner-Up: Ebony J (Prize: Mr Fothergills Butterfly & Insect Sanctuary & Seeds) Many thanks to Bunnings Joondalup for kindly donating the prizes and for organising such a wonderful event. A big thanks also to Ms Froud for all of her hard work designing and organising such a fantastic Scavenger Hunt, and to our other teachers who helped run the event.

What fabulous fun we had for Book Week last week! We loved seeing students dress up as so many different colourful characters on our Book Week Dress Up Day. Not forgetting our teachers who also truly got into the spirit. Now Where’s Wally?...

BOOK WEEK FUN

EXCITING DISCOVERY!

Year Three student Gina B was delighted when she found one of the books hidden by Mr Mark Folkard (Local WA Labor Member) during book week last week.

Mr Folkard had hidden books throughout the local area for children to find and keep, as part of his ‘Look for a Book’ activity in celebration of Book Week.

Well done Gina and happy reading!

6 Together Towards Tomorrow

We are very excited for our annual Lapathon taking place on Friday 3rd September which this year will be Olympic themed.

Students are invited to take part dressed in sports clothing representing their Olympic heroes. There are so many Olympic sports to choose from including hockey, surfing, beach volleyball, karate, boxing, basketball, cycling – the list is endless! AFL and cricket fans – please note that unfortunately those sports are not Olympic sports yet!

As always we request that students please dress sun safe with their shoulders covered, stomachs covered and wearing leggings or shorts. Don’t forget – students are invited to collect as much sponsorship/donations as possible which will directly benefit the school and our students. However please remind your children not to knock on stranger’s doors, in the interest of their safety.

We cannot wait to see our students all dressed up for the occasion and for another action-packed event!

Waste Free WednesdaysPlease make a note in your diary that our next Waste Free Wednesday is in week nine on Wednesday 15th September. We are asking for children to bring their lunch and snacks into school in reusable containers on these days. We appreciate that the snacks may have originally been purchased in containers/packaging, we just ask that the food items are brought into school in reusable containers that day - to help reduce the waste that we as a school send to landfill. Thank you for your support, it really helps us to make a difference.

This week is Australian Teacher Aide Appreciation Week 2021 and we would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge and thank all of our wonderful EAs.

Education Assistants play a very important role at Currambine Primary School and their hard work and dedication truly makes a difference to the lives of our students, teachers and wider school community. A big thank you for all that you do!
