Sit

At home, do join in, but if you’re in church, please meditate silently on the words.

1 Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart, naught be all else to me save that thou art; thou my best thought in the day and the night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

2 Be thou my wisdom, be thou my true word, I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord; thou my great Father, and I thy true heir; thou in me dwelling, and I in thy care.

3 Be thou my breastplate, my sword for the fight, be thou my armour, and be thou my might; thou my soul’s shelter, and thou my high tower, raise thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

4 Riches I need not, nor all the world’s praise, thou mine inheritance through all my days; thou, and thou only, the first in my heart, high King of heaven, my treasure thou art!

5 High King of heaven, when battle is done, grant heaven’s joy to me, O bright heaven’s sun; Christ of my own heart, whatever befall, still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

Prayers

Reader: Elizabeth Blunt

The reading is from Mark’s gospel, chapter 6

Then Jesus went about among the villages teaching. He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics. He said to them, ‘Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. If any place will not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.’ So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent. They cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.

For God’s holy word, thanks be to God.

Revd Mary Copping

Do you believe and trust in God the Father, who made the world? We believe and trust in him.

Do you believe and trust in his Son, Jesus Christ, who died and lives? We believe and trust in him.

Do you believe and trust in his Holy Spirit, who gives life to the people of God? We believe and trust in him.

This is the faith of the Church. This is our faith: we believe and trust in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Offertory hymn

Eucharistic Prayer

The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you.

Sit

1 Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here. Come, bow before him now, with reverence and fear. In him no sin is found, we stand on holy ground. Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here.

2 Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around; he burns with holy fire, with splendour he is crowned. How awesome is the sight, our radiant King of light! Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around.

3 Be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place; he comes to cleanse and heal, to minister his grace. No work too hard for him, in faith receive from him. Be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place.

With this bread that we bring we shall remember Jesus.

With this wine that we bring we shall remember Jesus.

Bread for his body, wine for his blood, gifts from God to his table we bring. We shall remember Jesus.

The Lord be with you. And also with you.

Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give thanks and praise.

Almighty God, good Father to us all, your face is turned towards your world. In love you gave us Jesus your Son to rescue us from sin and death. Your Word goes out to call us home to the city where angels sing your praise. We join with them in heaven’s song:

Page 7: Welcome Covid and fire safety Please...2021/07/04  · we shall remember Jesus. With this wine that we bring we shall remember Jesus. Bread for his body, wine for his blood, gifts

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessèd is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Father of all, we give you thanks for every gift that comes from heaven.

To the darkness Jesus came as your light. With signs of faith and words of hope he touched untouchables with love and washed the guilty clean.

This is his story. This is our song: hosanna in the highest.

The crowds came out to see your Son, yet at the end they turned on him. On the night he was betrayed he came to table with his friends to celebrate the freedom of your people.

This is his story. This is our song: hosanna in the highest.

Jesus blessed you, Father, for the food; he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and said: This is my body, given for you all.

Jesus then gave thanks for the wine; he took the cup, gave it and said: This is my blood, shed for you all for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in remembrance of me.

This is our story. This is our song: hosanna in the highest.

The Lord’s Prayer

Breaking of the Bread

Agnus Dei

Therefore, Father, with this bread and this cup we celebrate the cross on which he died to set us free. Defying death he rose again and is alive with you to plead for us and all the world.

This is our story. This is our song: hosanna in the highest.

Send your Spirit on us now that by these gifts we may feed on Christ with opened eyes and hearts on fire. May we and all who share this food offer ourselves to live for you and be welcomed at your feast in heaven where all creation worships you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit:

Blessing and honour and glory and power be yours for ever and ever. Amen.

Sit

As our Saviour taught us, so we pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread.

Jesus, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us.

Jesus, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us.

Jesus, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: grant us your peace.

God’s holy gifts for God’s holy people. Jesus Christ is holy, Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you, and his blood which he shed for you. Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving.

Sonata Op. 2 No. 1 by Arcangelo Corelli Violins: David and Elizabeth Blunt; cello: Susie Blunt; keyboard: Vicki Tibbitts

Grant, O Lord, we beseech you, that the course of this world may be so peaceably ordered by your governance, that your Church may joyfully serve you in all godly quietness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty God, we thank you for feeding us with the body and blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Through him we offer you our souls and bodies to be a living sacrifice. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory. Amen.

1 O Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end; be thou for ever near me, my Master and my friend: I shall not fear the battle if thou art by my side, nor wander from the pathway if thou wilt be my guide.

Blessing

2 O let me feel thee near me; the world is ever near; I see the sights that dazzle, the tempting sounds I hear; my foes are ever near me, around me and within; but, Jesus, draw thou nearer, and shield my soul from sin.

3 O let me hear thee speaking in accents clear and still, above the storms of passion, the murmurs of self-will; O speak to reassure me, to hasten or control; O speak and make me listen, thou guardian of my soul.

4 O Jesus, thou hast promised to all who follow thee, that where thou art in glory there shall thy servant be; and, Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end: O give me grace to follow, my Master and my friend.

5 O let me see thy foot-marks, and in them plant mine own; my hope to follow duly is in thy strength alone: O guide me, call me, draw me, uphold me to the end; and then in heaven receive me, my Saviour and my friend.

[BCP] Mattins

Ezekiel 2: 1–5 [p. 617] He said to me: O mortal, stand up on your feet, and I will speak with you. And when he spoke to me, a spirit entered into me and set me on my feet; and I heard him speaking to me. He said to me, Mortal, I am sending you to the people of Israel, to a nation of rebels who have rebelled against me; they and their ancestors have transgressed against me to this very day. The descendants are impudent and stubborn. I am sending you to them, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God’. Whether they hear or refuse to hear (for they are a rebellious house), they shall know that there has been a prophet among them.

Mark 6: 1–13 [p. 619] He left that place and came to his home town, and his disciples followed him. On the sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, ‘Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands! Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?’ And they took offence at him. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Prophets are not without honour, except in their home town, and among their own kin, and in their own house’. And he could do no deed of power there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and cured them. And he was amazed at their unbelief.

Then he went about among the villages teaching.

SuperHomes to help us towards net zero WinACC’s newest project to create SuperHomes in Hampshire is being launched this month, showcasing the large-scale transformation homes need to undergo to help us on the path to net zero by 2050. Research will also be undertaken to investigate the effect of the improvements on property values. The project will be introduced at open meetings on Wed 14 July, 7.30–9 pm, and again on Sat 31 July, 10.30 am–noon. To attend, or to find out how your home could be part of the project, contact [email protected].

St Paul's Toddler Group This restarted on Fri 25 June and went really well, with many positive comments. We had eight families, none of whom come to St Paul’s, so a real outreach. We realise that we need three people for each session (as families are both outside and inside, to keep to safety guidelines). Therefore we would be really grateful for offers of help (preparation Fridays 9 am, session 9.30–11). We plan to continue through the holidays. Please contact Mary Copping, 07921 886016, [email protected], if you would like to help, even if on a very occasional basis.

Cleaner needed for St Paul’s 4 hours per week over 2 days. If you are interested or know someone who would be, please contact [email protected].

A small but important volunteer role It’s good to have the Basics Bank donation boxes back in our churches ... and now we need someone happy to drop by once a fortnight on a Tuesday or Friday between 9 am and 3 pm and take the donations to the warehouse in Winnall! Please contact [email protected].

Team building If you’re not already involved in one of the teams that help enable the life of St Paul’s, we’d really encourage you to consider joining one. There are many ways of becoming more involved and contributing your time and skills to the life of the church.

i Opening/closing St Paul’s This is done at 9 am and 5 pm every day. Alexa Heady kindly organises this team; please contact her, [email protected].

ii Crucifer/servers A really special way to be involved in our Sunday worship. Again, please contact Alexa.

iii Sunday coffee This team is becoming well established. Thank you to all who are making this possible. Again, new team members welcomed; contact Vicky Scott, [email protected]. Having a fully equipped fit-for-purpose kitchen is already proving a real asset. Praise be!

iv Sound operators More still needed. Please chat with Michael Joseph or one of the clergy.

v Flowers New arrangers still needed to join the team. Previous experience not necessary – just the willingness to give it a go. The flower team at St Paul’s really needs your help. Please contact Sarah Eadie or the Parish Office if you feel you can help: [email protected].

vi Parish maintenance team We have a team of five who have already done some great work. Thank you. We’re particularly looking for someone who can help with the everyday programming and care of the new boiler at St Paul’s.

vii St Paul’s Hall curtains We’re making some progress looking at the options. An update soon.
