• From 2018 there is a new Work Programme EIC pilot aimed:

• Support with no thematic restrictions innovative firms and entrepreneurs in the scaling up stage at Eu and global level.

• Addressed to companies and actors bringing radically new ideas compared to existing products and services into the market, highly risky and high investment needed.

• Market-creating innovations are new and breakthrough products/services/processes/business models opening new markets allowing companies to grow up rapidly and esponentially on the global markets.

The Annotated template is a guide intended to help innovative SMEs in applying to the EIC SME Instrument 2018-2020 calls.

The guide includes annotations, explanations, examples, and more, on the basis of the original template for submission; which assist companies to better understand the requirements for filling in (Phase 1 and 2), and by so, contributes to writing better applications.

The Access4SMEs “Tips for the Pitch Interview – EIC SME Instrument PHASE 2” is a guide created to assist companies who are invited to present their innovative ideas in the Phase 2 interview session.

The information was gathered and processed by SME NCPs, and

includes insights from SME-Instrument evaluators and best-practices from winning proposals.

How to exploit project results in the case a consortium is made of no-SMEs partners (only academic/RTOs)?

Preliminary answer:

• Some of these projects may lead to good science and preliminary S&T results

• A part of their impact is in spreading ideas and in publications on new technological possibilities

• The Pathfinder instrument will provide grants to high-risk cutting-edge projects exploring new territories aiming to develop into potentially radical innovative technologies of the future and new market opportunities.

• It will build on the experience from the Future and Emerging Technology (FET Open) scheme supported under FP7 and Horizon 2020, including the Horizon 2020 FET-Innovation Launchpad, as well as the Horizon 2020 SME Instrument Phase 1.

• The Pathfinder will support scientific and technological research, proof of concept and prototypes for technology validation, The Pathfinder will also support Transition activities to help innovators develop the pathway to commercial development, such as demonstration activities and feasibility studies to assess potential business cases, and support the creation of spin offs and startups.

• The Pathfinder will be open to all types of innovators, from individuals to universities, research organisations and companies, in particular startups and SMEs, and from single beneficiaries to multi-disciplinary consortia.

The Pathfinder for Advanced Research

In order to be fully open to broad-sweeping explorations, opportunities of serendipity and unexpected ideas, concepts and discoveries, the Pathfinder will be mainly implemented through a continuous open call for bottom-up proposals. The Pathfinder will also provide for competitive challenges to develop key strategic objectives calling for deep-tech and radical thinking. Regrouping of selected projects into thematic or objective driven portfolios will allow establishing critical mass of efforts and structuring new multidisciplinary research communities.
