Morning Arrival

• All students are able to go to the cafeteria for complimentary breakfast.

• The students can come in the room at 8:30 am .

• Your child will be marked tardy after the 8:35 am bell.

Dress CodePlease refer to the SCPS Student Handbook for

appropriate school attire.

Students need to wear closed toed shoes.

Our room can become cold. You can send your child with a sweater or jacket in their backpack.

• Screening for IQ• Individual Support--Students come to guidance with personal problems and the guidance department provides short-term counseling.Students may also be referred to community resources.• Consult with Teachers, Parents or Outside Resources • Small Groups--Students meet with guidance in small groups for a variety of topics based on student need.• Classroom Guidance--Based on the needs of the students lessons are presented to entire classrooms focusing on strategies to help students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. • Behavior Contracts--Work with classroom teachers in preparing behavior plans for students.• Parent Conferences and IEP Meetings

A student may be immediately sent to office and a referral written at any point if behavior is severe ..

Consequences- Verbal Warning

After Verbal Warning, all misbehaviors are documented in Class Dojo

- Classroom “Think Sheet” to be completed and sent home for parent signature

- Timeout in another classroom or lose recess ~ behavior is also documented on five part sheet

- Call or email home

- Sent to office for consequence

- Office referral

Class Dojo• We are excited to be using this virtual

behavior system.

• Points will be given quickly to children by teachers when desired behaviors are seen.

• Points will also be taken from children who are not following our school-wide expectations.

• Parents can easily log on with an access code given by the teacher to view daily behaviors.

monthly.

Great American Fundraiser• Monday Aug 25 began our 1st school-wide fundraiser.

• Fundraiser ends on Sept 5th (all books and order forms due to teacher)

• Students receive order forms and a book to help sell coupon books.

• Books are $20 and will be sent home once orders are turned in and sent for processing.

• Students are responsible for the sample book sent home. A payment will be due for any not returned on the last day of the fundraiser.

• Even 1 book sold earns a prize!

Reading/Language Arts• Reading instruction will focus on strategies using

fiction and non-fiction texts.

• Our curriculum, Reading Street, will be used during the Reading/Language Arts block to meet the Florida Reading Standards.

• Daily 5 is part of our reading block.

• Fluency goal: 90 wpm

• Students will be encouraged to read both in school and at home and to participate in the Accelerated Reading (AR) program.

WRITING•We are following the Seminole County Writing plan.We will start with Personal Narrative.

MathGo Math! Curriculum

I will be following the Florida Math Standards.

Your child will only be asked to complete the front page of the homework page since we will not start with Chapter 1.

Your child can access the ThinkCentral website, which has your child’s math and science book. Students have their username and password on the front cover of their planner.

Please check and initial your child’s planner daily based on the grade level or classroom procedures.

DISMISSAL

• Siblings and parents cannot go to the classrooms to pick up children.

• Siblings can get together at the car ramp, walker/biker gate, or the cafeteria if they ride the bus.

• Teachers will take students to the car ramp and the bus ramp for parent pick-up.

• Make sure you have a Lake Orienta Car Tag if your child is going to be a car rider.

• PLEASE remain in the car rider line and do not get out of your car to pick up your child—we will take your child to the car.

• Car riders are not walkers and should not be picked up in the back of the school.

Any change in your child’s transportation MUST either be in writing to the teacher or phoned into the main office 407-746-2650.

Please notify your child’s teacher when phone numbers or address changes occur!!

Field Trips

• March 6th- Sea World

• If you are interested in being a chaperone you must be a registered dividend! Visit the Seminole County Schools website to complete the online application.

Birthday cupcakes or cookies are welcome but not mandatory.

Please notify your child’s teacher a few days in advance and have the treats ready for lunchtime

(12:35-1:05am).

• Link on Lake Orienta’s website and on the SCPS website under the “Parent” tab

• Create an account (username and password)

• Pay by e-check or credit card

• No more lost checks or sending your children to school with cash

• Ability to view account history of purchases

• Assurance of private and secure transmissions

• You will be able to pay online for fieldtrips, school pictures, t-shirts, fundraisers, supplies, and more!

DIVIDENDS1. Dividends are volunteers who help

teachers and students with particular educational skills, computers, reading and/or helping teachers with clerical duties, or sharing a special skill or hobby.

2. Chaperone a field trip for your child’s classroom—you must have a Dividends form completed and approved two weeks prior to the field trip every year on-line at: http://www.scps.k12.fl.us/dividends/Home.aspx

Please look for notes home regarding a time to meet and discuss your child’s progress. Remember – you can log on to Skyward at any time to view grades!

Why?

•To discuss your child’s progress. This may include, assessments, classroom behavior and goals for second grade.

• Other conferences can be scheduled when needed by contacting the teacher directly.
