Our Mission: To provide North Cobb High School with supplemental resources in the areas of instruction that will better equip our students and teachers through the learning process. This is the “why” of the North Cobb Foundation. We want to best support our students and teachers by having the ability to say “yes” for many of their requests.

OUR SUCCESS STORY

HONOR ADVANCED PLACEMENT SCHOOL

For the 3rd year in a row The State Board of Education has recognized NCHS as an Honor Advanced Placement School in all five categories available.

AP ACCESS AND SUPPORT SCHOOL: Schools with at least 30% of their AP exams taken by students who identified themselves as African-American and/or Hispanic, and 30% of all AP exams earning scores of 3 or higher.

AP MERIT SCHOOL: Schools with at least 20% of the student population taking AP exams and at least 50% of all AP exams earning scores of 3 or higher.

AP STEM SCHOOL: Schools with students testing in at least 2 AP math courses and 2 AP science courses.

AP S.T.E.M. ACHIEVEMENT SCHOOL: Schools with students testing in at least 2 AP math courses and 2 AP science courses and at least 40% of the exam scores on AP math and AP science exams earning scores of 3 or higher.

AP Humanities School: Schools with students testing in all of the following AP courses: at least one ELA course, two social science courses, one fine arts course and one world language course.

OUR SUCCESS STORY

ADVANCED PLACEMENT STATISTICS OUR SUCCESS STORY

• 2016-2017 School Year

• 700 students took an AP exam.

• 76% of those 700 students scored a 3 or higher on their AP exam.

• The score of 3 is deemed a “success” test score and is predictive of college success and college graduation

• 1440 AP exams were administered in 24 subject areas at NCHS.

BENEFITS OF THE 9TH GRADE ACADEMY

• The purpose of the Academy is to facilitate a smooth ninth grade transition for students socially and academically.

• All core classes are housed in the Academy.

• Students leave the Academy for their elective classes.

WHAT MAKES THE ACADEMY DIFFERENT• The Building Design

• Dedicated Academy Staff- Teachers- School Counselor- (2)Assistant Principals

• Counseling Programs- Sources of Strength- Peer Mediation

• High Behavior Expectations

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES• Students should start thinking about what club or

athletic team they might be interested in joining.• GHSA requires that a student pass 3 of 4 (2.5

credits) classes each semester to remain eligible.• Colleges like for students to be able to document

their participation in school activities.• Learning to manage your time between school

work and extra curricular activities is a very important life skill.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Students must earn a total of 23 credits:• 4 English• 4 Mathematics• 4 Science• 3 Social Studies• .5 Health/.5 Personal Fitness• 3 CTAE and/or World Language and/or Fine Arts• 4 additional elective units

• Counselors will conduct classroom guidance lessons and supplementary parent nights to support students in meeting these requirements.

- 1200 SAT combined score (or)- 26 ACT composite score

• Rigor Requirements- Class of 2019 must pass four courses defined as Rigor Courses (Chemistry, Physics, Advanced Alg, Pre-Cal, 2nd -4th level World Language)

GRADE POINT AVERAGE

GPA determined by quality points

A (90-100) = 4 B (80-89) = 3 C (74-79) = 2 D (70-73) = 1 F (69 and below) = 0

Honors classes freshman level and up earn extra .5 quality point; AP and World Language level IV & up earn extra 1.0 quality point.

• Colleges recalculate GPA based on academic class only and add quality points differently.

• 3.5 or higher GPA for Honors graduate. This is based on the student’s weighted cumulative GPA.

GENERAL GRADING POLICIES

• Interim progress reports will be issued to students every 6 weeks.

• Report cards are issued at the end of the S1 and S2; these final grades are reflected on the high school transcript.

• Parents can access the Synergy Parent Viewer to track assignments, grades, and attendance throughout the semester.

• Student’s progress reports and end of semester grades can be seen on ParentVue.
