Come Learn About
Our Muslim Neighbors

guest speaker for the TNT class
on June 18 at 10:15. He will be
talking about Muslims and Islam
and TNT is inviting anyone
interested to come and listen and

action in the Kansas City
Metropolitan Area for raising
awareness of different Muslim
cultures. It establishes and
maintains liaisons with
educational institutions, religious
groups, and local media.
Everyone who is interested in
learning more about Islam is
welcome to join the class in the
Fellowship Hall.

VBS!
Don’t forget that VBS begins on Monday, June
12 from 9-12 each day that week. We could
still use a few volunteers! We’d also
appreciate your support, through prayers and
monetary donations, to off-set the expense of
VBS. We’ll be sharing stories of God’s love to
over 150 children in our community for FREE!
Please contact Jennifer or Suzy at
[email protected] for more
information.
June KidsGrow!
During the month of June, our kids’ Sunday
School will be having a Pizza Party! Like
good pizza, good friendships need to start
with the right ingredients. Each week we’ll
continue to build our pizza from crust to
toppings with elements like trust,
compromise, listening and unselfishness. Our
memory verse is Proverbs 17:17 “A friend
loves at all times. They are there to help when
trouble comes.” We’ll finish off this unit with
a real pizza party the last Sunday in June!

Youth Mission Trip
We still have a few openings for the trip if you
know of any 7th - 12th graders who might be
interested in joining us on our trip to Colorado
Springs, CO during the first week of July.
Update on Jamey Bentley
Jamey’s back surgery has been rescheduled for
the third time. It is now set for the third week
of July. He has an advocate at KU Medical
Center who is helping him navigate with the
insurance carrier. Insurance denials have been
the problem in the previously scheduled
surgeries. Please continue to pray that the
surgery can be completed as soon as possible.
Through a mutual agreement with Jamey and
Valley View leadership, he is temporally
taking a part-time medical leave which
includes a partial reduction in salary. The
leave is scheduled to last no more than 90 days
and the goal is for Jamey to be back at work by
the end of the summer.
Preparation for the Youth Mission Trip is
proceeding on schedule. We are aware that
Jamey might not be able to travel to Colorado
Springs with the youth, but we have adults
who are ready and willing to take the trip and
to implement his detailed plan.
Jamey and your church leadership are
comfortable with the terms of the interim
leave, and we all look forward to getting the
“old” Jamey back as soon as possible. Any
questions or comments can be directed to the
SPR chair – Kathy Halstead or the Leadership
Team chair – Tim Williams.
Church Life
"A special treat is lined up for the men of the
church on Saturday June 17. Lee Johnson,
former long-time associate pastor at Valley
View, will be the guest speaker at the United
Methodist Men's annual breakfast meeting in
the park. We will be gathering at the Indian
Creek Recreation Center shelter at 8:30am. The
shelter is located at 10308 Marty, right behind
the tennis courts. Lee's talk, following
breakfast, is centered around Christian
Men. This also is the meeting that we
specifically ask men to bring their fathers,
sons, and / or grandsons with them.
Remember the start time is 8:00am. All are
welcome so please plan to attend"
Summer Special Music
Anyone is welcome to sign up
for summer special music. The
sign up sheet is on the bulletin
board outside of the choir room.

Women Hope Circle will visit the National Archives on
Tuesday morning, June 6th. This is a
continuation of the interest in genealogy from
our May program. We hope to learn how to
research our ancestors in the records
maintained by the National Archives. After
the one-hour tour the group will proceed to
Harvey’s Restaurant at Union Station for
lunch. Hope Circle members will meet at the
church at 9 AM and car pool to the
Archives. The 10 o’clock tour is fully booked,
but if any other woman is interested we can
schedule an additional 11 AM tour. You may
call LaRae Keezer at 913-648-5511 to join our
group. There are no other UMW circle meetings in June.
Caring Ministry
The congregation of Valley View UMC has
been divided into geographical groups and
our Stephen Ministers of have graciously
agreed to be “shepherds” for each of these
groups. They will be, and several have
already, be contacting you to check on you,
remind you of upcoming events, and to let
you know that church cares for you. If within
the next several months you are not contacted,
please let the church office know. The Stephen
Ministers who are participating are Jana
Moore, Sharon Klein, Barbara Campbell,
Marilynn Binter, Marilyn Taylor, Nancy
Heinz, Donna Craig, and Carri Whitaker.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Together we have raised almost $59,000 for
our roof. Our final payment is due in June and
any outstanding balance beyond the funds
contributed through “Raise the Roof” will be
paid from building reserves and the “Bridge”
building fund. There will be no additional
appeals or updates regarding this phase of the
roof project, however contributions will be
accepted through the end of the year.
