SKILL SPECIFIC TRAINING SESSIONS In 2017 Scorpions Netball Club will be trialing a new format of training. Over the season there will be three training sessions where players will train in the specific area that they play in (shooting, defending or centre court). If players play in multiple positions the graders and or coach will make the decision as to what specific area the player will train in. An experienced coach in that specific area will take the session. Some benefits of these sessions include:

1. Consistency across the club with what players of the same position are being taught;

2. Building a positive culture throughout the club by providing the opportunity for players to make friends in different age groups; and

3. More time being spent on specific skills required to improve in that

specific area of the court. FUNDRAISING In 2016 the club gave current members the opportunity to give the club feedback on proposed fundraising activities for 2017. Using the responses received the following fundraisers will be in place for 2017. The committee is giving players the opportunity to donate or participate. Easter Raffle Member contribution (per family):

• Donation of an easter egg or similar towards the raffle • Selling of 10 raffle tickets to family/friends.

OR • $15 donation to the club in lieu of the above.

Responsible person SNC Committee Scheduled review date 31/01/2018

This code has been created to set guidelines for all members and supporters of the Scorpions Netball Club Inc. Any breaches of this code will be dealt with in accordance to our constitution. Players • Play by the rules. • Never argue with an official. If you disagree, have your captain approach the official

during a break or after the game to gain an understanding of their interpretation. • Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials or other players, deliberately distracting or

provoking an opponent is not acceptable. • Work equally hard for yourself and your team. Your team's performance will benefit so

will you. • Be a good sport. Applaud all good play whether they are by your team or the opposition. • Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take unfair

advantage of another player. • Co-operate with your coach, team-mates and opponents. Without them there would be

no competition. • Play for the fun of it. • Avoid using derogatory language. • Be prepared to take responsibility for your actions. Coaches • Remember that players participate for pleasure and that winning is only part of the fun. • Never ridicule or yell at a player for making a mistake or losing. • Be reasonable in your demands on player's time, energy and enthusiasm. • Teach your players to follow the rules. • Avoid overplaying the talented players. Every player needs and deserves equal game

time. • Develop team respect for the ability of opponents and for the judgement of officials and

opposing coaches. • Ensure positive coach/umpire relationships are continually developed. • Ensure knowledge of laws of the game is such that you encourage the players to play

the game and accept the role of the umpire. Parents/Spectators • Remember that players play sport for their enjoyment, not yours. • Encourage players to participate, do not force them. • Focus on the player's efforts and performance rather than winning or losing. • Encourage players to always participate according to the rules. • Never ridicule or yell at a player for making a mistake or losing a game. • Remember that players learn best by example. GRADING & TEAM SELECTION POLICY

Policy number SNC - 02 Version 3

Drafted by Laura Moulton Approved by Board on 15 February 2016

Responsible person SNC Committee Scheduled review date 15 February 2018

Introduction

Scorpions Netball Club (SNC) is committed to ensuring team grading is conducted fairly and effectively. The aim of the Policy is to ensure grading of teams is undertaken in this manner, and in the best interest of the club and players. All players registering for full rules netball will be graded.

Purpose

The club grades to ensure that all players of all varying abilities get to play with players of similar skill level. It is important to keep in mind that our teams will play against other competitive and well skilled opponents.

Policy

Grading Committee

Our grading committee is selected and endorsed by the committee each year. The graders will range from experienced coaches from the Club, external coaches and others who bring knowledge and impartiality.

Players will trial in the positions they feel they play best in. Players may be asked to trial in other positions as requested by the selectors, as they may see potential in another position.

The grading committee will assess the skills of a player by taking into account:

1. Footwork, Speed & Agility

2. Ball handling skills

3. Attacking / Defending skills

4. Sportsmanship & Attitude

The club understands some players are new to netball, or have not played for some time. This is all taken into account at the time of grading.

If you are unable to attend a grading session you will need to notify the club prior to the day. A failure to attend all grading sessions will result in placement into a team based upon paper grading and previous season’s information.

Please be proud of the team you are selected in and give it everything at training and game day. Parents, please be reasonable and make sure your child is happy and excited about playing. The division or team they are selected in should not be used as a comparison against others and age being no barrier.

It’s important to remember netball is a team sport and the club encourages players to have fun, learn new skills, and be competitive against players with a similar skill level.

Please forward questions in relation to grading to the Clubs President via [email protected].
