Title I Program

Title I Program• Acton Elementary is a Title I school. You must have 40 % of your

students qualify for free or reduced meals to become a Title I school. Once your school is identified as eligible for Title I any student can receive Title I services.

• Title I funds are federal dollars that are passed on to the state and then to the local district. You must document that you are using the federal funding the way your proposal is designed.

• You may obtain more information about Title I on the school webpage or by contacting the principal.

• Please try to have your child here on time!

• Children may enter building at 7:15 and sit at their designated area in the pit. We have already discussed “pit procedures and rules” in the classroom.

Tardies

• Tardy at 7:45• Go directly to office to get tardy

slip.• We must have a tardy slip for our

records.

Absences/Illness

• Excessive absences hinder a child’s progress.• However, please do not send your child to

school if he/she has a temperature.• Children must be fever & vomit free for 24

hours.• When child returns a parent or doctor’s note

is required in order for the absence to be excused.

• Attendance is taken at 10:00 A.M.

ow do I get home?• Drive through pick-up is in the front of the school. Your

child’s name will be called and they will meet you out front.

• If there is any change in transportation arrangements anytime throughout the year, we must have it in writing or we will stick with the plan that we have!!!

• If a student will be going home with another student we will need a note.

Need to pick up early?

• We encourage you to make appointments after 10:30 am.

• To check your child out for any reason, you must first go to the office and sign him/her out.

• The office will then call the classroom and we will then and only then release your child. We cannot check out anyone from the classroom unless the office has notified us to do so!

Breakfast & Lunch

• Breakfast will be served from

7:15 -7:40 am

• Please check your child’s teacher’s schedule for lunch times.

• Menus can be found on the “Menu Calendar” that was sent home earlier. However, the menus might change occasionally due to delivery of food items.

• Please notify us in writing if your child has any food allergies.

•We encourage you to pre-pay meals on-line or by sending a check or money in your child’s folder of any dollar amount but please put the money in an envelope or baggie and write your child’s name on it.

•If your child has lunch money please have them turn it in to their teacher.

•You are always welcome to eat lunch with your child (Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles too!) with the exception of days that students are TAKS testing.

Snack Policy• All snacks must be healthy due to recent

nutritional laws. – Some examples are pretzels, dry cereal, gold

fish, graham crackers, etc.• We have snack while we work.• No sharing with others.• Must be able to be eaten with fingers.• Water only bottles with a pop up top are

allowed in the classroom.

Birthday

• Invitations to parties can only be handed out in class if everyone in the class is receiving an invitation.

• You may bring packaged goodies and juice boxes on your child’s birthday. However, we can not pass out anything homemade. If you choose to bring packaged birthday goodies please make sure you also bring napkins and plates. Birthday celebrations usually occur at the end of the day.

• Please give your teacher prior notice if you are planning on sending birthday items.

• Warning! I need to think about what I am doing. I will lose ½ of my recess.

• Red – 2nd mark on behavior sheet

• Warning! Stop this Behavior! I will lose all of my recess and will get a note home.

Discipline Continued• Blue – 3 marks on behavior sheet

• Warning! I am continuing to make bad choices and/or I have caused a severe disruption! I will lose all of my recess, get a note home, and might be asked to visit with Mrs. Roe or Mrs. Willmeth.

• We believe these procedures will make each child responsible for his/her own actions and choices.

Discipline Continued• SEVERE DISRUPTION

• A student who severely disrupts the classroom will be asked to immediately go to the principal’s office. (EX. commits bodily harm to others, destroys school or other student’s property, keeps the class from functioning or keeps the teacher from teaching)

• WELL BEHAVED STUDENTS

• A student who chooses to behave will earn the following:

• - Verbal praise and smiles

• - Positive notes

• - Stickers

• - classroom incentives

Conduct Grade• Your child will receive a conduct grade on their report card.

The number of conduct marks your child accumulates during a six weeks period will determine his/her conduct grade.

• Your child receives conduct marks each time he/she has to move their clothespin .

PE information• Please check your child’s schedule to see

which days they will be going to PE. On PE days have them wear their tennis shoes to school and then they may change into other shoes after PE. We love fashion footwear, however it takes too long to change in and out of our tennis shoes and we don’t want to miss out on any of the PE fun.

Conference

For any conference:– Our regular conference time is 8:43-

9:33 on Monday, Tuesday and Friday.– Please send a note or call 817-408-

4200 to schedule an appointment with your child’s teacher.

Homework /Projects• Homework assignments will be listed on your

child’s homework page. Please return the homework the next day unless noted otherwise.

• Throughout the year first graders will be involved in various projects that might require work at home. We will send home notes as needed.

Curriculum

Expectations in Reading

• Reading accuracy at an independent level

• Around 60 words a minute

• Reading comprehension – Do I understand what I am reading?

• Assessments – Istation and benchmarks

Expectations in Math• Granbury ISD uses two math series – Envisions

and Math Investigations. These are comprehensive programs which include learning through manipulatives, student/teacher interaction/ and technology

• Assessments: Texas Early Math Inventory tests (TEMI), benchmarks, quizzes and topic tests

Expectations in Social Studies and Science

• Social studies and science are taught according to the scope and sequence guidelines for Granbury ISD

• Assessment – chapter assessments, benchmarks, and student participation

Computer Lab/Library

• We go to the computer lab 40 minutes a week to enrich our curriculum and units of study according to the TEKS.

• We go to the library weekly to hear a story.

• The books are kept for one week then returned on our library day.

Report Card

• Report cards are sent home every 6 weeks.

• Progress reports will be sent home after the third week of a grading period to let you know your child’s progress, with the exception of the first six weeks.

“Switch Classes”• On Mondays, Wednesdays,

and Fridays, the students will attend what we call “switch classes”. This is a time when students are grouped according to their reading abilities and receive targeted instruction and enrichment activities. The students are grouped according to assessments and teacher input.

• Each teacher teaches a different skill level or target area and the students will switch classrooms accordingly. The students might move in and out of groups depending on their progress and skill level. “Power Hour” is also a great way to meet new friends and be exposed to different teaching methods.

Volunteer???

• Always, always stop at the office and sign in every time you come in the building. This is for your child’s safety. *NOTE* Don’t forget your I.D.

• All volunteers must complete a background check prior to helping in the classroom or attending field trip.

• The best way to get to know our school, make friends and feel a part of our school is through volunteering.

• Please join PTO and inquire about volunteering.• For the safety of all children, siblings will not be allowed

in classrooms during volunteer times.

Boys and Girls Club at Rancho Brazos

• This is a free service for students at Acton Elementary and Acton Middle School after school.

• The club hours are from drop-off time (when the buses drop off students) until 6:00 Monday – Friday. Parents will need to pick up their children from Rancho Brazos.

• The students get a snack and the club provides tutoring for an hour.

• The director has planned activities for the students.

• The students can ride bus #55 and it drops them off at the club.

• Acton Methodist Church helps pay the Boys and Girls club fees.
