The new financial year ushers in major change in our cricket development

department In line with the vision of Cricket South Africa and the partner-

ship with Easterns will be a productive venture pertaining to Cricket Services.

With the inclusion, of additional four age group coaches the Union will be

able to ensure the following with regards to cricket services and develop-

ment.

❖ Widening the Coaching Skills into the regions

❖ Servicing of cricketers from Junior to Senior levels

❖ More talent to be un-earthed with-in the regions

❖ More opportunities for cricketers to reach provincial and national status

❖ Service levels to be improved for cricket development

The Coaching department under the management of Marvin Tsehisi has been

allocated five new offices at the Media Centre at Sahara Park Wil-

lowmoore. We have concluded all the appointments of the coaches in their

various categories. This was executed in-conjunction with Cricket South Afri-

ca – Cricket Service Department and Eastern Cricket Union. I am sure you

will join me in wishing Marvin and his Team all the success going forward

with this all-important project. Exciting times ahead for the Union as the

stadium will host the Benoni Zalmi Franchise in November and December

2017. The stadium is undergoing major upgrades through the partnership

with Cricket South Africa, we are confident that CSA and ECU will ensure to

deliver a successful event regarding the Global T20 #

Another season has passed and we have embarked on

a strategic operational plan to speedily respond to

the administration significances, which sought to

transform and modernise our cricket operations in

line with the now successful CSA activity based fund-

ing model.

Our programmes were geared towards a sound and

effective development strategy as well as a perfect

administrative model. It is pleasing to note the sig-

nificant achievements within our cricket services de-

partment, where we have achieved commendable

scores during the review of the CSA scorecard perfor-

mances. Various improvements are still needed for us

to achieve excellence, areas of which we have identi-

fied and are working hard on.

The provincial academy is now also fully operation-

al and is showing notable signs of achieving its aims

and objectives. We have eight identified players in the

squad who are receiving specific interventions from

social, medical, transport and equipment assistance.

Our semi-pro team has competed with great enthusi-

asm during the past season and has performed well

in the 3-day format. There are encouraging signs go-

ing forward with this aspect of our cricket and the ex-

perience our new coach RECHARD DES NEVES comes

with will be a valuable tool going forward. We wish

to thank Andre Nel for his role within our Semi Pro

structures during the past two seasons and wish him

well in his future endeavours, he has moved on to

greener pastures.

The appointment of Israel Hlengani as fitness train-

er has benefitted the entire player pipeline from a fit-

ness perspective, which augers well for the future fit-

ness of all our players in the various youth age

groups, academy, women’s and semi pro teams.

Concerted efforts have been put into place to over-

haul programmes and coaching within our emerging

club regions. All this looks encouraging for the de-

velopment of cricket for our emerging players, who

we believe can compete on the bigger stages.

Women’s and development of girl’s cricket had a

successful season and continues to show growth

and improvement. We are pleased with the develop-

ments in this area of our cricket.

We are planning to grow the area of developing

more umpires and scorers for the new season, espe-

cially from our emerging regions as this department

has shown great room for improvement, when we

reviewed its progress during the 2016/2017 season.

Mini cricket, Youth cricket as well as Club Cricket is

evolving at a speed of light. We are keeping abreast

of the developments in these areas and have been

equal to the demands and expectations as required

by the CSA funding model and its monitoring tools.

Our administrators and coaches are continually

striving for excellence in these departments. CSA

has also revised the job descriptions of the Coach-

ing Manager, Club cricket and Youth cricket coordi-

nators to improve in totality the delivery of service

and monitoring within these frameworks.

Finally, we look forward to the 2017/2018 season,

with planning already done we can only strive to

achieve our goals through delivering excellence

within all of our cricketing services departments.

On March the 23rd we had our first meeting with the KFC MINI Cricket Area Coordinators with the aim

of reflecting on the successes of the previous season and to make plans for the upcoming season. Israel Hlengani formally introduced Julius Maziya as the

new KFC Mini Cricket Coordinator at Eastern Cricket.

In the month of April, we then started visiting Re-gions to meet and establish/revive Regional Com-

mittees. Four committees were established and three were revived and are now fully functional. These meetings were hosted in the following Regions.

On the 31st May 2017 kids and Educators from Bah-lengeni PreSchool(Vosloorus) paid us a visit at Wil-lowmoore Park.

This year’s KFC National Seminar will be hosted in Durban (Drakensberg Mountains) at the Cham-

pagne Sports Resort. The Mini Cricket will be cele-brating 35 years since its inception during the 1982/83 season, the following delegates will repre-

sent Eastern Cricket at the Seminar from the 2nd July - 5 July 2017.

The aim of our cricket programme is through sport, to educate players to appreciate the values of honesty, courtesy, consideration for others and self-discipline.

These values are to supplement the qualities developed by the dedication required to succeed in a

competitive environment in which practise, perseverance and concentration are paramount. To build a strong competitive and junior club cricket structure, developing cricket players and ad-

ministrators from all sectors of our community. To conduct our cricketing affairs in a professional and organized manner for mutual benefit of its

clubs, players, administrators from all sectors of our community. To actively grow and market our junior club summer and winter cricket programme, supporting

schools and club structures throughout the province for mutual benefit for cricket development with-in our union.

To build a strong competitive provincial structure capable of holding its own against other union. To create a positive perception of all EJCCA activities To achieve financial viability via affiliates, Eastern cricket union and cooperate sponsorship. To cooperate with whoever has the interest towards the uplifting the EJCCA on a non-profit basis. To play the game in a way it was originally intended, “in good spirit” To treat cricket players from every sector of our community with human dignity, enhancing social

integration, cultural understanding and tolerance.

To encourage those in a more fortunate disposition to assist those who are less fortunate, thus mak-ing a positive and significance in our diverse community.

YOUTH CRICKET

Aim & Objectives

The RPC has already started. With the help of Mr Kenneth Masinga our youth cricket Coordinator. We have already played against all the age group teams of the Eastern Junior Cricket Club Teams. Our strength has been tested against the best in Un-ion. Our U/18 and U/15 have shown a great poten-tial to do well even though the figures were not that great. I will like to thank the coaching staff at East-ern Cricket for their unconditional Support.

The schools will be start-ing with their matches at beginning of the third term. A big thank you to Mr Julius Maziya for his help on making our mini cricket committees func-tional. Duduza cricket hub had a very successful coaching the coaches mini cricket clinic that was held in Duduza primary school. It was a well-attended clinic session. The objective of the clinic was to exchange the knowledge and give them skills so that they can coach kids at their different schools, also to have more information of how to coach cricket. Also we are looking more forward to do coaching clinics in our area so that the teachers of the schools can become more involve in cricket.

The head grounds man of Eastern cricket and Dudu-za hub grounds man working very hard on our out field, the aim is to improve our outfield to be playa-ble this coming season for club cricket and hub matches and our area league matches. The main aim of fixing our facility is to take cricket in township. We also work very well with Duduza municipality.

We are looking forward to the new season of 2017/2018 for Duduza cricket hub to do much bet-ter. Our focus is to produce quality players and run cricket hub centre very professional.

Duduza cricket hub centre has produced yet again 5 provincial players that will be part of EJCCA pro-vincial winter program, we are very happy to see players getting an opportunity to attend the trials and make the final selection. The players made dif-ferent age groups team: U/12 Emmanulle Motsile U/13 Sinethemba Ngeyane and Nhlakanipho Ndaba U/15 Sibusiso Thsaba U/17 Nhlakanipho Nxumalo

Mini Cricket

The 2016/17 season was a great season for the East-ern Women’s Cricket, we had a group of talented and committed players. The preparation of players for the season went well will all the players respond-ing positively to the training and coaching methods, they showed commitment to Eastern Cricket. The team did their best to try and qualify for the Semi Finals of the 50 over competition but we were one win short of making it. There were lots of positives during the past season compared to the previous sea-son. Tumi Sekhukune made the South Africa U19 Girls, Carmen Nagel & Robyn Dormehl made the SA Fillies Side. The Women’s team played in their fifth CSA Wom-en’s Regional T20 competition and played 4 games won 3 games and lost 1 and managed to come 2nd on the Highveld Log. In the CSA Women’s Provincial 50 over competition they won 2 and lost 2 game and managed to come 3rd on the Highveld log.

Congratulations to the following players who got awards: • Rody de Nysschen Best Bowler of the season • Adele van Eck – Player of the season. • Adele van Eck– Batter of the season. The Ladies had a first Battle of the Roses tourna-ment this season there was 4 teams: Wildfire Ladies, Jets Ladies, Calypso sisters, Samurai Ladies. Well done to Jet ladies that have won the Battle of the Roses.

There is no doubt about the importance of fitness in an athlete, as an athlete with the required skills but without the much needed fitness cannot give good results continuously.

Skills are known to be harnessed and developed as the years go by, but fitness is required to comple-ment the skills that a person has for him or her to succeed.

For an athlete to consistently perform during the event, fitness is very important as an athlete with poor fitness will get tired a lot faster.

A tired athlete will not be as sharp as he is when he is fresh and to retain freshness levels for a long-er period of time an athlete has to be fit.

Fitness and skill are equally important traits that an athlete requires and therefore an athlete has to work constantly on developing both at the same time.

We started with our off-season fitness and conditioning pro-

gramme 22 May 2017, We did our Fitness evaluation to have an idea of where all the players are at with their fitness. We have been training three times a week, the first four of weeks

it was purely focused on cardio, body weight conditioning exercises, speed and agility plus recovery on the last day of the week. The squad has now progressed to five sessions per

week, of which three of them are pure Fit-ness sessions. The other two days we have more focused on core and shoulders stabil-

ity which takes place before they do their skills.

It is very exciting to see the players pushing themselves during sessions and it shows

that, there is more responsibility taken, which shows that there is understanding on the importance of being Fitness and conditioned well to perform to their best

optimal level.

Is Fitness The Most Important Trait An Athlete Requires?

Semi Pro Team

Sport Fitness In the past, theories about sport-fitness methodologies have changed significantly. Today’s cutting-edge coaches no longer focus primarily on brute strength. Instead, movement patterns that are similar to the specific sport have become the foundation of most conditioning programs. This is based on a concept called the “pattern recognition theory of motor learning,” which states that the brain does a better job at memorizing movement patterns than it does simple muscle isolations. Because of this, “one size fits all” sport fitness programs are a thing of the past. In fact, the best sport fit-ness experts in the industry take a number of factors into consideration when designing a sport training program. Let’s take a look at them. We started with our off-season fitness and conditioning programme 23 May 2017, We did our Fitness evaluation to have an idea of where all the players are at with their fitness. speed and agility plus recovery on the last day of the week. The academy team has been doing a very simi-lar programme with the Semi Pro squad but we have increased the length and sets, so that they catch up with the Semi pro squad.

The squad has now progressed to five sessions per week, of which three of them are pure Fitness sessions and they are working around the semi programme. The other two days we are more focused on core stabil-

ity and making sure that they have the correct technique when doing the strength sessions on the gym.

Fitness Habits Sports help students develop coordination and teaches them how to care for their bodies through proper

stretching and the development of fundamental mechanics. Participating in athletics at an early age instils physical fitness habits that carry over into adulthood, helping to avoid health problems.

On Saturday 27 May, the E.J.C.C.A Under 12 & Under 13 Had A Fitness Evaluation to see where our youngsters are in terms of physical fitness to make sure that they perform to the best of their optimal level. Eastern Cricket is investing on the potential showing by the youngsters. We Looking After The Pipeline!!

Eastern Junior Club Cricket

The off season has started again. The boys were happy to be back after a long break that they got

from a long and busy season we had. The boys start-ed on working on their fitness for the first month with our new fitness trainer Mr Israel Hlengani. The

boys have been put through their paces by Mr Hlen-gani and you could see they are getting stronger n fitter everyday they do their work out. What has Mr

Hlengani did is to do a fitness test every Month so to keep the boys working hard.

After few weeks, we started with our Skills, the boys enjoyed hitting the ball and bowling again. We worked on the Action with the bowlers on pitch vi-

sion where it shows everything you need to know about a bowler. Batters were working on their bat swings, getting into positions.

We already planned games already, we are aiming to play more games than last year. Lastly, We would like to welcome Coach Richard Das Neves to the family, and We have four new players that were awarded Academy Contracts namely. Sizwe Zulu, Justin Gamble, Wilber Van Dyk and Katleho Bala.

As the Academy team, we are happy that one off our player has been awarded a Semi-Contract and now

he is playing for our Semi-Pro team and couple of guys have played couple of games for the Semi-Pro team last year. Our Goal is to have more players

playing for the Semi-Pro team and Titans.

The 2016/17 Season has been a successful one for club cricket. It was good to see more leagues being closely contested this season. With the inclusion of extra clubs that moved to Eastern Cricket due to the geographical demarcation, the league structures changed dramatically the past season. The Premier League structure started off with twelve teams in the 1st half of the season. The Promotion League had 20 teams and was divided into four groups. The top eight clubs in the Premier League competed in the 2nd Half. The remaining four clubs and the group winners of the Promotion League competed in the Premier II League.

Kempton Park won in the Premier league finals and competed in the Franchise Multiply T20 Community Cup and Franchise Momentum 50 over Club Championships. They won the Franchise Multiply T20 Community Cup and also participated in the 1st play-offs of the Franchise Momentum 50 over Club Championships. Congratula-tions to all those teams who won their respective leagues.
