Good Morning!
• Students begin walking to class at 7:35am
• The late bell rings at 7:50am.
• At 7:55, the students begin DEAR time.
GradingThe report card will have the following letters as indicators of development:
B Below*With assistance, student struggles to demonstrate partial mastery of
current grade level expectations
P Progressing *With assistance, student demonstrates partial mastery of
current grade level expectations
M Meets*Student consistently meets and demonstrates mastery of
current grade level expectations
E Exceeds*In addition to meeting the standard, the student makes application
beyond grade level expectations
*If a • is placed in an area of the report card, this means that the skill was not assessed during that particular quarter.
Pathways• Word Work/Making Big Words
Students practice new vocabulary, spelling, and linking known words to new words
• Literacy CentersStudents work in small groups on independent activities to reinforce reading and writing skills
• Read AloudTeacher is reading text to students
• Shared Reading/PoemReading a poem and finding words with certain features
• Guided Reading/Literature CirclesTeacher assists and instructs as student reads
• Independent ReadingStudent reads without assistance while maintaining understanding
• Writing WorkshopStudents work on the elements of writing. They also learn about a variety of texts.

• Word Study is Loudoun County’s spelling program. Words are sorted into groups based upon their features.

Homework Policy
• Homework is a nightly 25 minute process– Reading…Silently/Read Aloud- 15 minutes– Word Study (Spelling)– Math– Sight words
• Homework will be sent home every Monday and should be returned on Friday.

Behavior Management Plan
Food• Breakfast: students may eat breakfast at school in
the morning when they first arrive• Snack begins around 9:15 each day
