Year Two2012 -2013

Adults:Mrs Gray

Mrs Colton Works every morning and works with small groups on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

Routine:•Children come into school independently.

•Change into indoor shoes if outdoor shoes are muddy/wet.

•Water bottles should contain plain water. Please don’t put in bookbags!

•Please name everything!

Timetable•Mornings – Literacy, maths. Phonics taught in ability groups.

•Monday afternoon – P.E•Tuesday afternoon -Swimming •Thursday afternoon – Library•Thursday afternoon – Mrs Colton•Friday – parents welcome at start of day.

Topics – by term• Castles

• Festivals / Rainforest

• Seasides

• Each term parental information will be displayed on the notice board, via a letter with your child or on the website.

Reading• All children will read in a group on the

same day each week.

• Any comments you write in the diary will be read on your child’s reading day.

• Please sign and date your child’s reading diary when they read at home.

• Reading comprehension and questions to suit the book may be sent home from time to time. Please complete with your child and return in their book bag.

Home Learning• To support your child, spellings will be

given out fortnightly. Should be learnt at home. Spelling books should be in school every Friday.

• Word bags to learn common words. Children will be tested on the same day each week.

• Children may be given other tasks based on Numeracy, Literacy or the current topic.

• Regular reading – trips to the library.

Feedback

• Verbal feedback direct to the child and discussed in the class.

Rules• Rules are decided and agreed by all

children and adults in the class.

• Stickers given by adults can be put on a reward card. Children will earn prizes.

• Children can work together to earn the trophy for the table of the week.

• All behaviour management procedures follow the school’s behaviour policy.

PE and outdoor learning• Kit should include: plimsolls, t-shirt and

shorts. Earrings should be removed.

• Wellies needed for outdoor learning and a waterproof coat. Extra layers needed in cold weather.

• Swimming starts 8th January for 6 weeks.

Curriculum Time• We value each and every session with all

pupils. Therefore, it is essential to maintain

a high attendance.• Missing sessions due to holidays leads to

children missing key skills. This time can be never recovered.

• We do not set work for time missed due to holidays.

• Please ensure your child arrives on time everyday.

Parental Help• Please speak to me if you would like to

help.

• Please let me know if you have any particular skills or expertise!

• Don’t forget all parents are welcome to read with their child one morning a week.
