WHAT IS ICS-101?
•Hands-on computer class with emphasis on
producing professional-level documents,
spreadsheets, presentations, databases, and web
pages for problem solving.
• Includes concepts, terminology, and a
contemporary operating system.

•Hands-on experience with practical applications.
The current personal computer applications
covered include:
• Windows
• Office
• Word
• PowerPoint
• Excel
• Access
• Internet
• Creating web pages

•Conceptual information about computers
•Exposure to terminology necessary to
communicate effectively
•Hands-on exposure to computer components
TEXTBOOKS AND SUPPLIES
You will need:
•Textbook (see Class Schedule) is available at
the bookstore
•Flash drive
•Blank CD for final project
•Pencils/pens, notebooks, etc.

GRADING
•This is a “for credit” class—your work will be
graded as outlined in the Class Schedule and
will be based on the following:
Assignments & exercises
Tests
Projects: presentation and web site
Class participation, etc.
GRADING (CONTINUED)
•Final averages and letter grade equivalencies are
shown in the MCC catalog & on the Class Schedule
•You must petition me if you want the Credit/No-
Credit option
Remember: grades are not
“given”—they are “earned”
ASSIGNMENTS
•Assignments are late if not finshed by when they are due
• Late assignments are penalized 10% first class day + 5% per day for each additional class day late
•Maximum of 30%
•Assignments not done earn 0%
CLASSROOM RULES
•Please be on time
• If you are late come in quietly!
•No eating or drinking
• Exception: Drink in secure containers
•No cell phone use during class – not even texting
•Do not use computers during lectures or class discussions
