Community Involvement• Diploma requirement – each student must make a positive

contribution to the well-being of the community• Students must complete 40 hours before graduation• Must take place after the student has finished grade 8• Must take place outside the regular instructional day

requirement• Literacy Test (OSSLT) takes place in Grade

10 for most students• Preparation and support activities take

Extended French CertificateStudents are eligible to receive an extended French certificate by earning seven credits in French, including:• 4 courses in French: FIF1D, 2D, 3U, and 4U• 3 courses in other subjects taught in French:

• CGC1DF – Geography• CHC2DF – History• CHV2OF/GLC2OF – Civics & Careers

Note: Students may earn an Immersion Certificate if they earn 4 French Immersion Courses and 6 other subjects taught in French

Changes French Program• For students entering grade 9 in September

2016 students will take French Immersion, Academic (FIF1D) not Extended French (FEF1D)

• The only difference between these two programs at the secondary level is related to the number of hours of instruction in French

DELF• The Diplôme d’études en langue française (DELF)

is an internationally recognized test of French proficiency

• Based on the Common European Framework of Reference, which defines language proficiency along six global levels

• Proficiency is measured across four competencies: listening, speaking, reading, and writing

• All students taking French at Lisgar have the opportunity to write the DELF in grade 11 and 12

International Advanced Placement Program

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) enables willing and academically prepared students to pursue university level studies with the opportunity to earn university credit, advanced placement or both – while still in high school.

International Advanced Placement Program

• AP Program is designed by the College Board• Lisgar is listed on the AP ledger• Our courses are AP approved and we can

include the AP designation on transcripts• Only four Ottawa schools are on the ledger• Lisgar one of the few schools in the country to be

asked to offer the AP Capstone Diploma

International Advanced Placement Program

AP Capstone• AP Capstone is a program highly valued by Colleges and

Universities• The diploma is comprised of Seminar and Research

Course plus four other AP courses• AP Seminar (Grade 11) and Research (Grade 12) prepare

students for the rigorous skills required at higher education

• Involves presentations to an expert panel and a final paper of 5000 words

International Certificate Program• To recognize and honour students who

demonstrate a commitment to being motivated, engaged, and active global citizens

• Participants earn the certificate by:• Studying an international language• Taking internationally-focused classes• Understanding global issues• Participating in an internationally focused project

The Gifted Program at Lisgar• Lisgar’s Gifted Program is a continuation of

the OCDSB program for intellectually-gifted students

• Aim: To differentiate learning experiences of the depth and breadth beyond those normally provided in the regular school program

Eligibility • Students who are currently in an OCDSB

Congregated Gifted Program will move directly into their home Secondary Gifted Site

• Students who are not currently in an OCDSB Congregated Gifted Program must provide the documentation required in support of their application

Program RequirementsCanadian Cognitive Achievement Test (CCAT )• Scores at the 98th percentile on two of the three

scales and at least 90th on the third

Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-IV or WISC-V)• Full scale or GAI at or above 98th percentile

All documentation must have been completed within the past 2 years and 11 months

Application Process• For OCDSB students, the grade 8 Learning

Support Teachers support the referral process

• For outside applicants, your home gifted secondary school will support you directly in this process

• Four congregated classes in core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Geography

• Congregated means that all of the students in these classes are identified as gifted
