All About Ms. Robostello…
Background: I grew up in Cumberland County, New Jersey. I received my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education
from Lynn University in Palm Beach County, Florida. This year is my 11th year teaching. I have taught Kindergarten, 1st grade and 4th grade. I also have taught in Florida, Georgia, and New Jersey. I am currently going to school to get a Masters in
Educational Leadership.

Math Continued… A lot of what we learn in math this year depends on
knowing multiplication facts!
*PLEASE* have your child begin learning multiplication facts now – they must be mastered in 4th grade! Practice every night!

Writer’s Workshop• Each morning we begin the day with a reflection. Every
student will respond to a prompt, idea, quote, question, etc. in their reflection journal. These pieces will be graded throughout the year based on participation and work effort.
• During our writing time, students will work through the writing process to create a different writing piece each marking period.
• First writing piece is a personal narrative, followed by Essays, realistic fiction (story) and personal narrative again.
• All writing is graded by district rubric
Lunch & Recess• You may send in lunch money or create
an online account to add money online. Ask office for log in information.
• Sign up to receive breakfast all year without needing weekly forms!
• Lunch: 11:15-11:45• Recess: 11:45-12:00
Language Arts & Literacy
This year we are very excited to share that we are doing novel units and novel studies! We have begun our first novel unit, Frindle and students seem to enjoy it so far.
We will also be implementing our new reading curriculum, Benchmarks. Students in K-5 will be using this new curriculum. We are excited to increase the student’s learning with these new and improved materials!
Language Arts & Literacy
Literacy Stations will begin in October. Possible stations include: teacher time, writing,
spelling, grammar, word work, poetry, computers/iPads, etc.
Students will have twenty spelling words weekly. Speller’s Choice Homework – Due Friday
Spelling Test Every FRIDAY.
Social Studies This year we will study:
American Revolution &
The Constitution Regions of the United
States Immigration & Heritage
• We will also do special projects throughout the year.
• Parents will be invited to attend project presentations!
Science/Health The topics we cover this year
are: Animals, Systems of the Body, Solar System, Electricity, and the Water Cycle.
We will participate in labs, smart board interactive activities, partner/team/independent work.

Behavior
Behavior
Money System- Each student earns classroom money for participating and completing their work. Money can also be taken away for negative
behavior. Compliments - Whole class behavior
system to improve behavior in the hallways
Homework Students will have homework everyday.
Only exception will be on Friday. No homework! Happy weekend!
Homework assignments will be copied into the agenda books/planner. This is your child’s responsibility.
Homework usually includes some kind of math, spelling, and reading. Some weeks/nights, students will also have writing, science or social studies homework.
Grading The grading system for 4th grade is the
following:100-97: A+ 79-77: C+96-93: A 76-73: C92-90: A- 72-70: C-89-87: B+ 69-67: D86-83: B 66-65: D-82-80: B- 64 & below: F
Class Trip to NYC 4th Grade trip to The Museum of Natural History
The trip is connected to the novel Wonderstruck.
General information on the trip (times, dates, chaperones, etc…) will be available later in the year.
Class Trip to NYC We must raise $3,300 for our buses
Students and Chaperones pay for themselves to get into the museum. ($16 per ticket and $5 per trip t-shirt if they choose.)
We will be holding regular fundraisers to raise the money. FIRST FUNDRAISER IS YANKEE CANDLE. ALL INFO WILL BE
COMING HOME WITH YOUR CHILD SOON.
The sooner we raise the money, the less fundraising we will all have to do.
Involvement It is extremely important that you return papers to attend
events in the classroom by the due date as the policy for our district states you CANNOT enter the building unless I notify the office in advance with a list of parents attending based upon responses received. If you show up to school the day of the event without returning forms in advance stating you would like to attend, you will NOT be permitted to enter the building and attend.

• Birthdays- Students may donate a book to the classroom library, bring in items like pencils or erasers for their classmates, or wear something special in honor of their special day. In addition, students may receive special classroom privileges like choosing their seat for the day or bonus time on the classroom computers or iPads.
• Scholastic Book Club- Order forms will be sent home throughout the year, or you can ORDER ONLINE! Our first catalogs are on your child’s desks now. Please order by next Friday, September 25th!

Things to note Conferences will be November 23rd from 1:30-3:15
and the 24th from 1:30-6:45. There is a sign-up sheet located on the bookshelf by
the front door. Please sign up before leaving tonight if you already know when you can be available and your time will be reserved in advance!
Post-its are provided to write down your date and time to take with you.
Reminders will be sent home when conference dates are closer!
Things to note Lastly, thank you so much for your time! If you have any
questions or concerns, please feel free to write them down on the index card located on your desk with your name and contact information. Drop it in the basket on the bookshelf by the front door as you are leaving and I will be sure to answer you as soon as possible!
Be sure to check out our “Guess Who?” display to find your child, as well as leave your child a note on the “Guess Who Was Here?” form for them to read tomorrow morning!
