Learning Our Faith at Ss. Peter and Paul... Faith Formation... Our Catholic School...

Parents With Small Children Please consider sitting up front at Mass (even if you come in late). Children will naturally be bored and get antsy if they have no view of what is going on at the altar. If you bring them up when you are receiving Holy Communion, have them cross their arms over their hearts to signal their desire for a blessing.

Altar Servers Please pick up your schedules in the Sacristy this weekend after mass. The schedules not picked up this weekend, will be mailed to you.

Thank you, Miss Nye

Students in grades three through eight will celebrate the forgiveness of Jesus in the Sacrament of Reconciliation on December 16 at 1:00p.m. in SSPP Church. There will be a prayer service with the faculty and students before the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Students will have the opportunity to hear of God’s love and forgiveness in a Scripture reading. They will reflect on the ways they have or have not loved God and others in an examination of conscience. We are grateful for the many priests that will be present in Church to hear the confessions of our students. Celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation is another way during this season of Advent that we can prepare our hearts and let Jesus be born in us. Congratulations to our students who worked so hard to attain averages qualifying them for first honors, second honors, and merit roll. We encourage our students to work their best in academics and in behavior. The faculty and students are not in school beginning December 21. Dismissal on December 20 is at 11:20a.m. Christmas break continues through January 5. Classes resume on January 6. Have a blessed Christmas and a New Year filled with peace and joy. Thank you to all who help us in our school and who support our efforts. God bless you… Sister Marilyn Ann

Parish Outreach 1) Food Pantry Needs: ravioli/spaghetti rings, canned vegetables, crackers, cereal, cake/brownie mix In November, you helped provide grocery assistance to 215 families (491 individuals) thru your donations of 2,469 pounds of food and non-grocery items. Thank you for your ongoing support. 2) Thanksgiving Donations: thanks to all who so generously donated groceries, money and time in support of our Thanksgiving food distribution, providing 114 dinners for families in need. Although we receive food from FeedMore of WNY, we would not have been able to serve all of our families without your help. A special note of gratitude to our fabulous volunteers for their hard work and ongoing dedication. Turkey donations are still being accepted for our upcoming Christmas distribution and may be brought directly to the Outreach office. 3) Clothing Closet Needs: winter coats, boots, hats, gloves, children’s clothing (2T-5T), men’s sweatshirts (all sizes) 4) The barrels at the Church entrances are now designated for Friends of Night People donations for gloves, hats, new socks and underwear. We will also be collecting sleeping bags and blankets (please bring these items to the Outreach office). One barrel will remain at the Main Street entrance to receive general/holiday food donations. 5) Due to an increase in the number of homebound parishioners requesting Communion, we are in need of Eucharistic Ministers. If you are presently a Eucharistic Minister and can help, or would like to take a training class and volunteer for this ministry, please call the Outreach office. 6) Volunteers are needed to transport residents requiring wheelchairs at Elderwood at Hamburg to the Communion service held there Friday mornings. Many thanks to Joann McMahon & Marilyn Wiedemann for their many years serving at Elderwood! Please call the Outreach office for more information or if you can help. 7) Angel Tree: we will need all Angel Tree gifts returned to the tree or Outreach office by this weekend of December 14-15. 8) We are not able to accept donations between the hours of 2-3pm

Pass the Chalice This chalice pass is an awesome way to bring families together for prayer and at the same time bring an awareness of the need of vocations to the priesthood. Those families wishing to share in this great experience may sign up at the table in Church with your first & last name for the week you will be receiving the Chalice. The case with the Chalice in it will be in the Sacristy for the weekend Masses. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact David & Margaret Alexander at 648-3842 Dec. 15—Dec. 21 Joe & Michelle Hoff

Reminder If you are going away for the winter, please call the rectory to let us know. We will stop your envelopes until you call

and let us know you have returned. Thank you.

Ministry...

Christmas Wafer (oplatek) ...commemorates a custom which is many centuries old. The ritual observance is called wigilia (pronounced “vee-ghee-leah”) in Polish. It is a unique family celebration in Christendom perpetuated with the full blessing of the Church. The wafer is passed from the oldest to the youngest with a Christmas greeting before Christmas Eve Dinner begins. Packets of Wafers are available in the Rectory and Sacristy. Donations are accepted.

Retirement Fund for Religious Religious give thanks. “’thank you’ hardly seems adequate to convey what it means to us,” says a Catholic sister of the financial assistance her community received from the Retirement Fund for Religious. Prayer-filled thanks for your donation to last week’s second collection.

The kickoff to the Women’s Ministry wine and cheese social was a big success; thank you to all who attended! Women of all ages are invited to come and journey with us as we grow in faith while building community with other like-minded women. Please join us for our new bible study: Ignite: Read the Bible Like Never Before by Deacon Harold Burke- Sivers and Sonja Corbitt. The sessions meet every two weeks in the SSPP meeting room from 6:30-8:30 pm, January 8, 2020 to April 15, 2020. To register and order your book, please call Leslie Jones 400-3514 or Erin McNichol 310-4688. The deadline to order your book is December 18, 2019.

Have you ever considered being a lector? What does a lector do? Is it a lot of work? In case you missed the Ministry Fair but were thinking about serving your parish here are some facts about lecturing that might make you change your mind: *You will be at Mass anyway so why not contribute your talent? *All the text has been prepared for you – you only have to read what is written *You decide which Mass time is most convenient for you *Not a huge commitment of your time - In a ten week cycle you might lector at 2 or 3 Masses – depending on which Mass and you are going to be there anyway *Free training provided *Choice seating at no extra charge *Families are encouraged - share the liturgy with those you love If interested please contact the rectory office 649-2765 and we will get you more information.

Eagle Scout Project Thank you so much for all your support. I well surpassed my goal of 50 pairs of boots. I think I will be close to 100 pairs by the end of this week. To date all boots have been washed and water proofed and ready for distribution. Thank you again for the many donations and support. I will send out an update after my project is completed. Sincerely, Weston Ferro Troop 400
