Meet Mrs. Gribbin

• Earned Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Seton Hill University in 2001

• Worked in the GLSD as substitute teacher, long term substitute, and classroom assistant from 2001-2009

• Certified to teach Elementary (K-6)• Previously taught 3rd grade at Baggaley

Homework Binder

Please check your child’s homework binder NIGHTLY!

Current spelling words are kept in the blue sleeve. Words are tested on FRIDAYS.

Current math fact lists are kept in the yellow sleeve. Timed tests are given on WEDNESDAYS.

Storytown

READING*robust vocabulary discussed orally in class*weekly story should be read at home once it has been shared in class*comprehension tests are given on FRIDAYS. STUDENTS MUST READ THE TEST INDEPENDENTLY

Students should read for at least 10 minutes nightly!

SPELLING*new lists given on Mondays*tests given on Fridays*challenge words are graded

WRITING/GRAMMAR*weekly writing and grammar activities correspond with what is being studied in Storytown*students also take some assignments through the writing process

Go Math!

STUDENTS WILL STUDY:*number concepts*numbers to 1,000*basic facts & relationships*2-digit addition & subtraction*3-digit addition & subtraction*money and time*length in customary & metric

BASIC FACTS—Practice, practice, practice! (Weekly timed tests will be given. Yellow study pages will come home for practice).

Science

• We are using ScienceFusion. Students will learn about the weather, space, magnets, animals, and of course butterflies!

Social Studies

• History—pioneers and ancestors

• Communities—citizenship; rules in society; belonging to many groups

• Geography—continents; maps; landforms

Health

• Emotional and Intellectual Health• Growth and Development• Nutrition• Disease Prevention and Control• Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drugs (Saint Vincent

We need your help!• Volunteer Opportunities– a note was sent home on the first day of school

regarding volunteers for parties and field trips (the 2nd grade field trip will take place during Spring 2015)
