preparing by works of love and self-sacrifice for the celebration of our Lord’s death and resurrection. Today we come together to begin this solemn celebration in union with the Church throughout the world.

Christ enters his own city to complete his work as our Saviour, to suffer, to die, and to rise again. Let us go with him in faith and love, so that, united with him in his sufferings, we may share his risen life.

The palms are blessedGod our Saviour, whose Son Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem as Messiah to suffer and to die, let these palms be for us signs of his victory; and grant that we who bear them in his name may ever hail him as our King, and follow him in the way that leads to eternal life; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE PALMSAs the palms are distributed, we sing:

Hymn Ride on! Ride on in majesty!Hark! All the tribes hosanna cry!O Saviour meek, pursue thy roadwith palms and scattered garments strowed.

Ride on! Ride on in majesty! In lowly pomp ride on to die:O Christ, thy triumphs now begino’er captive death and conquered sin.

Ride on! Ride on in majesty! The winged squadrons of the skylook down with sad and wondering eyesto see the approaching sacrifice.

‘Accept one another, then, for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Ride on! Ride on in majesty! The last and fiercest strife is nigh:the Father on his sapphire throneawaits his own anointed Son.

Ride on! Ride on in Majesty! In lowly pomp ride on to die;bow thy meek head to mortal pain, then take, O God, thy power, and reign.

INVITATION TO CONFESSION

Celebrant God shows his love for us in that, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Let us then show our love for him by confessing our sins in penitence and faith.

All Most merciful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we confess that we have sinned in thought, word and deed. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. In your mercy forgive what we have been, help us to amend what we are, and direct what we shall be; that we may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with you, our God. Amen

Celebrant Almighty God, who in Jesus Christ has given us a kingdom that cannot be destroyed, forgive us our sins, open our eyes to God’s truth, strengthen us to do God’s will and give us the joy of his kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All Amen.

‘Accept one another, then, for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

THE LITURGY OF THE SACRAMENT

We stand to share the peace:The PeaceCelebrant Once we were far off, but now in union with Christ

Jesus we have been brought near through the shedding of Christ’s blood, for he is our peace.

The peace of the Lord be always with you. All And also with you.

Let us offer one another a sign of peace.

As the Body of Christ receives its life from God, and offers its life to God, so we, as members of that Body, greet each other in love.

The Preparation of the TableThe Taking of the Bread and Wine Samuel Crossman.MY SONG IS LOVE UNKNOWN,My Saviour's love to me: Love to the loveless shown, That they might lovely be. O who am I, that for my sake My Lord should take frail flesh and die?

Page 8: Welcome to St Margaret’s Church Ifield …  · Web viewCelebrant:Hosanna to the Son of David, the King of Israel. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. All: Hosanna

He came from His blessed throne,Salvation to bestow; But men made strange, and none The longed-for Christ would know: But O! my Friend, my Friend indeed, Who at my need His life did spend.

Sometimes they strew His way, And His sweet praises sing; Resounding all the day Hosannas to their King: Then 'Crucify!' is all their breath, And for His death they thirst and cry.

They rise and needs will have My dear Lord made away; A murderer they save, The Prince of life they slay, Yet cheerful He to suffering goes, That He His foes from thence might free.

In life no house, no home My Lord on earth might have; In death, no friendly tomb, But what a stranger gave. What may I say? Heaven was His home; And mine the tomb wherein He lay.

Here might I stay and sing, No story so divine; Never was love, dear King! Never was grief like Thine.

‘Accept one another, then, for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

The Eucharistic Prayer

The Lord be with youAll and also with you.

Lift up your hearts. All We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.All It is right to give thanks and praise.

It is indeed right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, holy Father, almighty and eternal God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. For as the time of his passion and resurrection draws near the whole world is called to acknowledge his hidden majesty. The power of the life-giving cross reveals the judgement that has come upon the world and the triumph of Christ crucified. He is the victim who dies no more, the Lamb once slain, who lives forever, our advocate in heaven to plead our cause, exalting us

‘Accept one another, then, for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Page 10: Welcome to St Margaret’s Church Ifield …  · Web viewCelebrant:Hosanna to the Son of David, the King of Israel. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. All: Hosanna

there to join with angels and archangels, forever praising you and singing:

All Holy, holy, holy Lord. God of pow'r and might.Holy, holy, holy Lord. God of pow'r and might.Heaven and earth are full, full of your Glory.Hosanna in the highest, hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes, in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest, hosanna in the highest.

We praise and bless you, loving Father, through Jesus Christ, our Lord; and as we obey his command, send your Holy Spirit, that broken bread and wine outpoured may be for us the body and blood of your dear Son.On the night before he died he had supper with his friends and, taking bread, he praised you.

He broke the bread, gave it to them and said: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.

When supper was ended he took the cup of wine. Again he praised you, gave it to them and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.

So, Father, we remember all that Jesus did, in him we plead with confidence his sacrifice made once for all upon the cross. Bringing before you the bread of life and cup of salvation, we proclaim his death and

‘Accept one another, then, for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

resurrection until he comes in glory.

Praise to you Lord Jesus:All Dying you destroyed our death,

Rising you restored our life:Lord Jesus, come in glory.

Lord of all life, help us to work together for that day when your kingdom comes and justice and mercy will be seen in all the earth. Look with favour on your people, gather us in your loving arms and bring us with St Margaret all the saints to feast at your table in heaven. Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, O loving Father, forever and ever.

All Amen.

The Lord’s PrayerAll Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth as in heaven.Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our sins,as we forgive those who sin against us.Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yoursnow and forever. Amen.

The Breaking of the BreadThe Priest breaks the consecrated bread

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.‘Accept one another, then, for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’

All Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread.

The Giving of CommunionCelebrant Every time we eat this bread and drink this cup’All we proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. Celebrant This is the table of the Lord. It has been made ready for

those who love him and who want to love him more. So, come, you who have much faith and you who have little; you who have been here often and you who have not been for a long time; you who have tried to follow and you who have failed. Come, not because I invite you: it is our Lord. It is his will that those who want him should meet him here.

All We do not presume to come to this your table, merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord whose nature is always to have mercy. Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him and he in us. Amen.

We sing the Agnus Dei.

O sacred head, sore wounded, defiled and put to scorn;O kingly head, surroundedwith mocking crown of thorn:what sorrow mars thy grandeur? Can death thy bloom deflower?O countenance whose splendourthe hosts of heaven adore.

Thy beauty, long-desired,hath vanished from our sight;thy power is all expired, and quenched the light of light.Ah me! For whom thou diest, hide not so far thy grace:show me, O love most highest, the brightness of thy face.

I pray thee, Jesus, own me,me, shepherd good, for thine;who to thy fold hast won me,and fed with truth divine.Me guilty, me refuse not, incline thy face to me,this comfort that I lose not,on earth to comfort thee.

In thy most bitter passionmy heart to share doth cry, with thee for my salvationupon the cross to die.Ah, keep my heart thus movedto stand thy cross beneath,to mourn thee, well-beloved,yet thank thee for thy death.

My days are few, O fail not, with thine immortal power,to hold me that I quail notin death’s most fearful hour:That I may fight befriended, and see in my last strifeto me thine arms extendedupon the cross of life.

We are looking for a number of volunteers (leaders, junior leaders, craft designers/helpers and refreshment helpers) to help with this year's Summer Club. The summer club runs every morning from 9-12 August. If you would like to know more please contact Veryan Nicholls [email protected] / 07919 201 254.

Registration for our Parish Holiday Club is now open! 'The good news kingdom' will take place from Tuesday 9th- Friday 12th August at St Margaret's school. Registration forms can be found at www.stmargaretsifield.wordpress.com/whats-happening/holiday-club/

St. Margaret’s Church News: the Easter edition of our magazine for the community is being distributed through local shops and other outlets in Ifield, Ifield West and Langley Green. It can also be accessed on St. Margaret’s website. A limited number of copies are also available in church today. Please feel free to take one, read it and then put it through a neighbour’s door to help us distribute it as widely as possible.
