AMER-SIL Ribbed Separators

AMER-SIL Ribbed Separators

The AMER-SIL standard calendered ribbed separators are made by chemical (non-thermal) fusion of a polymer and precipitated silica. This material is very pure and chemically stable.

The internal structure is very porous, tortuous and hydrophilic. The product can be supplied in a "standard" or "high porosity" (HP) grade.

AMER-SIL Standard Porosity:Finds its application mostly in motive power (traction) battery application. Also in gelled VRLA and flooded stationary batteries.

AMER-SIL HP (High Porosity):Is used in cells where lower electrical resistance and higher porosity are required, these include: high energy density traction batteries, some types of gelled VRLA batteries, heavy duty starter batteries and traction monobloc batteries such as golf cart and electric vehicle batteries.

AMER-SIL separators can all be offered with Glass Mat lamination.

- Advantages offered by AMER-SIL Corrugated Separators -

Flexibility : The additional transformation *yields a flexible material which allows the corrugated separator to be supplied also in rolls

High Porosity : The corrugation process increases the volume porosity to 72%.

Low Electrical Resistance :

Typical values vary between 90 mΩ*cm² and 120 mΩ*cm² depending on the thickness of the flat membrane used for corrugation.

Low Electrolyte Displacement :

The high porosity and special wave design yield a low electrolyte displacement.

AMER-GEL Corrugated separators

The AMER-GEL corrugated separators are made by chemical (non-thermal) fusion of a polymer and precipitated silica. These are the same basic materials as those used for the past 30 years in the well approved AMER-SIL ribbed separators.

The AMER-GEL corrugated separator is available in 'S' and 'T' profiles. The 'S' pattern is a sinusoidal pattern whereas the 'T' pattern is a straight vertical weavy one.

Laminated with Glass Mat, this separator is also suitable for flat positive plate applications.

AMER-TUBE GAUNTLETS represent the latest step in the long evolution of Tubular Positive Plate Active Material retainers. For almost 100 years, these retainers evolved from single tubes of various materials to woven gauntlets and in recent years to nonwoven gauntlets.

AMER-TUBE GAUNTLETS are available in many tube shapes:

EDGE PROTECTIONThe gauntlet offers protection against plate lateral short circuits by partially coating the end tubes. This protection is an efficient and more economical alternative to the sleeve technique.

1. The finest pore structure

The AMER-TUBE gauntlet's specially designed nonwoven fabric gives a fine and very tortuous product.

3. The lowest electrical resistance

As a result of the highest porosity and the highest amount of electrolyte retained in its structure, the AMER-TUBE GAUNTLET has half the electrical resistance of a typical woven fabric gauntlet.As a consequence of these characteristics the AMER-TUBE GAUNTLET is ideal for use in GELLED electrolyte VRLA batteries where lowest electrical resistance, high electrolyte retention and small pore size are very important factors.

4. Compatibility with wet and dry filling methods

AMER-TUBE GAUNTLETS are compatible with both wet and dry filling methods. By their filtration action, these gauntlets assure a uniform deposition of wet active materials.In dry filling these gauntlets handle well in the process and offer greater retention of the finest oxydes.

When stiffer gauntlets are needed due to process requirements AMER-TUBE GAUNTLETS with reinforced structure are recommended.

5. Edge protection against lateral short circuits

AMER-TUBE GAUNTLETS are offered with an optional lateral protection against plate-plate short circuits.

This protection is created by insulating the outer exposed sections of the gauntlets. These insulated surfaces are obstacles to the deposition of charged particles floating in the cell electrolyte.

* Edge protection with tight cell fits: "C" configuration

When cell spacing does not allow it, and some capacity can be traded off for higher protection against lateral short circuits, this configuration should be considered.

AMER-GLASS Absorbant Glass Mat

AMER-GLASS is a unique multi purpose Absorbant Glass Mat (AGM) separator made exclusively of chemical grade borosilicate glass micro fibers with a thickness range from 0.15 mm to 3.50 mm at 10 kPa.

AMER-GLASS is produced in two versions:

Standard AGM: AG

Offered in rolls that can be used to mechanically wrap plates or as cut leafs in thicknesses up to 3.5 mm as a multi layered AGM or as a single layer AGM.

Reinforced Edge Treated AGM (Patent No. 1048089 (EU), 6319629 (US) ): AGR

This material can be sealed by enveloping machines and it can be sealed by crimping to form plate pockets.

In its multilayer versions AMER-GLASS has the distinguishing feature of being an oriented AGM separator. This means that each side of this AGM separator has a different fibrous structure.

AMER-GLASS finer side has a higher SSA (specific surface area) and a dense structure composed exclusively of the finest glass micro fibers.

AMER-GLASS coarser side has a lower SSA and a looser structure made up of varying ratios of different glass micro fibers. A wide spectrum of properties can be obtained depending on the fiber formulation adopted.

1. Finer Pore Structure

AMER-GLASS separator has a smaller pore structure for the same amount of fine fibres, due to the unique fibre system of deposition.

2. Faster Upward And Downward Wicking

In comparison with standard (single deposition) AGM separators, AMER-GLASS carries electrolyte upwards faster. This is due to the synergy effect between the different layers.

3. Unique Saturation Profile

Wicking tests show AMER-GLASS can carry electrolyte to wicking heights that are out of reach to other regular AGM separators.

The stronger AMER-GLASS capillary forces given by the fine layer allow the electrolyte to be perfectly maintained because of the denser structure created by fine micro glass fibres.

AMER-GLASS as a reinforced edge treated AGM offers:

Superior tensile strength

The AMER-GLASS AGR separator has an increased tensile strength due to the presence of structural reinforcement of the separator. This enables the tensile strength to be triple that of a standard AGM without the addition of organic fibers.

Sealability by Plate Enveloping

The AMER-GLASS AGR separator allows crimping on both sides to form pockets.

In addition the outer 3 - 4 mm of the separatoroffer a good protection against short circuits. Enveloping is an important requirement of some battery types and this separator allows the use of standard enveloping techniques with minor adjustments to the machinery.

AMER-SIL s.r.o. develops and produces materials for a wide range of filtration and separation applications. These products are marked by the brand AMER-FIL. Strong research and development and precise production with an ISO-certified quality system are guarantees of your satisfaction with our high performance products.

Air filtration

We offer air filtration media that cover the full spectrum of your filtration application needs. The materials in our portfolio have performance efficiencies varying from ASHRAE class up to ULPA class with 99,999995% efficiency in accordance with EN 779 and EN 1822.

These AMER-FIL products have sufficient stiffness and strength for deep-pleat and mini-pleat applications, offer filter efficiency and dust holding capacity in accordance with modern filtration standards.

Liquid filtration

AMER-SIL materials are assigned for industrial filtration applications, such as filtration of hydraulic oil lubrication, or applications with aqueous liquids. Our materials are produced as pre-filter or primary filter media. Customers can also choose a "duplex" version that combines the function of pre-filter and main filter in one layer.

Our special binding systems give AMER-FIL grades high strength to fulfil all requirements during the pleating or other mission-critical properties. Our materials offer high efficiency with high capacity during their life cycles.

Laboratory filtration

We offer flat stock for producers of laboratory filter cut-outs of quantitative and qualitative laboratory filters. We can supply standard and wet strength filter papers in master rolls.

AMER-SIL develops and produces AMER-THERM materials for industrial insulation applications, where the requirement is to protect or insulate temperature conditions ranging from -240°C (-400°F) to +1000°C (+1832°F). Our materials, produced in our ISO-certified plant, bring you the right solution for your needs.

Middle temperature materials

All thermal insulation products with working temperatures of up to +1000°C (+1832°F) belong to the category of middle temperature materials in AMER-SIL.

Different inorganic fibres are used for these materials.

Cryogenic materials

We offer materials for special applications where super-insulation is needed, as well as materials with high efficiency and excellent properties for processing. Our cryogenic materials are labelled with the name AMER-CRYO.
