Parish News Message from the Pastor
Diocesan Activity
Please welcome Rev. Gary R. Norman who will preside over all the services this weekend and speak about a ministry providing direct relief to the poor throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
Father Norman will share personal witness about Food For The Poor’s mission to care for the destitute as a means of living out the Gospel mandate to love one another.
Fr. Norman was ordained in 1994 for the Diocese of Yakima. He has also served in the Pacific NW and Alaska. Fr. Gary is a retired priest and preaches full time for Food For The Poor.
To Pray or To Work?
How many times were you so tired in the evening that you went to bed without saying your evening prayer? All day long you were busy doing many important things so you simply felt you just had no strength to pray. What is more important then, to do things or to pray? I am sure you all remember Jesus visiting Martha and Mary. Martha was busy doing things, anxious and worried about many things and Mary was just sitting beside Jesus and listening to Him speak. Although it seems that we all feel closer to Martha, Jesus praised her sister saying that listening to Him is a “better part”.
In the other hand, we see early Christians asking Apos-tles to “devote themselves to prayer and to the ministry of the Word” and choose others “to serve”. The author of the book of Acts of the Apostles seems to say – both, prayers and service are equally important.
When St. Benedict set rules for monks, he expressed the need to balance in life prayer and work saying “Ora et Labora (Pray and Work)”.
Recently we see many of our parishioners being busy with the Pie Social fundraiser, organizing the trip to the ballgame in St. Paul, serving ice cream on weekends, and arranging our new storage at the entrance of the church. Now I see that a Parish Picnic is scheduled for next Saturday evening. It is such a joy seeing so many parishioners being active and engaged again, especially after many things being cancelled during the pandemic.
But we still have Adoration on Thursdays and Rosary on Monday mornings and before each Mass. I see people coming to our church just for a short visit to pray. And, the most important, Sunday Mass is attended better and better every Sunday.
Overall it seems that step by step we are getting back again to our good-old-selves: praying together and working together. As it was in the beginning… and as it should be. Msgr. Aleksander Suchan
