REFLECTIONS FOR THE WEEK

Listen to the Word—Read the Gospel As you hear this reading, what words or phrases strike you? What in this reading touches your heart? What lingers in your memory?

Question for Children: Jesus is present to each of us in a different way. Tell about a time that you knew Jesus was with you.

Question for Youth: Name a moment or situation in your life where Jesus was present. What are some situations or places where you wish that Jesus was more visible?

Question for Adults: Jesus came to bring glad tidings to the poor and set free the enslaved. How has this mis-sion of Christ in the world affected you personally?

ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT Sacred Heart Parish continues to have Adoration every First Tuesday of the month. The Exposition of the Blessed

Sacrament will occur after 8:00 am Mass & reposition will be at 7:00 pm. Our next opportunity for Adoration will be Tuesday, February 2nd. You are welcome to stop in anytime from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. Please use the North Church Doors -

the other doors will be locked. In the event of a funeral, Adoration will be suspended for the duration of the funeral and will

resume after the funeral for the remainder of the day. For more information, visit the Sacred Heart website under

―worship‖.

2016 FAMILIES & LENT: Lent will be here before we know it. Lent is a time to think about the life we can give to others and

the ways we can share Jesus’ love with each other and with other people. When we give the gift of ourselves through caring, we are like Jesus because He gave Himself to us. Lent can be a time when we strengthen our families through caring and giving. Some suggestions for giving and caring that you may want to do this Lenten season include:

* Greet family members with a hug when they come * Have a family night with the children planning the menu and

home from work or school. the activity. * Have each parent spend some time alone with each child. * Make cleaning a family project. * Play a game with a someone in your family. * Visit someone who is lonely or sick. * Write a letter to an elderly person in our parish. * Help another person with her/her work

With every family members help, Lent can be a time when your family grows closer, more loving and caring.

BECOMING CATHOLIC…WHAT ARE THE STAGES OF RCIA? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults states that ―the rite of initiation

is suited to a spiritual journey of adults that varies according to the

many forms of God’s grace, the free cooperation of the individuals, the

action of the Church, and the circumstances of time and place.‖ (RCIA,

n. 5) Each person who comes into the initiation process is at a unique

place in their faith journey, and the RCIA process seeks to honor and

respect these differences. However, each adult who is not baptized

will progress through the same four stages throughout the process:

Period of Evangelization and Precatechumenate. This is a time,

of no fixed duration or structure, for inquiry and introduction to

Gospel values; an opportunity for the beginnings of faith.

Period of the Catechumenate. This stage, in duration

corresponding to the progress of the individual, is for the

nurturing and growth of the catechumens’ faith and conversion to

God; celebrations of the Word, prayers and blessings are meant to

assist the process.

Period of Purification and Enlightenment. This third and much

shorter period ordinarily coincides with Lent and precedes the

sacraments of initiation at the Easter Vigil. It is a time of

spiritual preparation and reflection, intensely centered on

conversion, and includes the celebration of the scrutinies and

presentations.

Period of postbaptismal catechesis or mystagogy. The final

period extends through the whole Easter season. It is a time for

deepening the Christian experience, for spiritual growth, and for

entering more fully into the life and unity of the community,

particularly by participation with all the faithful in the Sunday

Eucharistic celebration. (RCIA, n. 7)

Baptized Christians seeking to enter into full communion with the

Catholic Church will follow a modified form of these stages of RCIA.

They will receive catechetical formation and spiritual preparation

suitable to their journey of faith. The sacrament of baptism cannot be

repeated for someone who is validly baptized in another Christian

denomination. These candidates may be fully received into the Catholic

Church at a celebration other than the Easter Vigil.

Have you been thinking about being a Marriage Prep Sponsor

Couple? Now is your chance!

The Diocese will be hosting a sponsor couple training at the Catholic

Pastoral Center on consecutive Mondays, Feb 1 and 8. The sessions will

be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and couples must attend both to complete

training. Registrations will close on January 25.

Even if you cannot begin practicing this ministry immediately, once you

are trained you are trained for life. This is such a rewarding ministry

and will strengthen your own marriage by learning and growing

together with the newly engaged couple. Time commitment: most

sponsor couples are matched up once a year with new couples for 4-5

meetings. This is based on your own schedule and is very flexible. We

are in need of new couples for this ministry at this time. Please

contact Loralee Chase for more information.—loralee.chase@sacred

HEALING MASS There will be a Mass of Healing on Thursday, Feb. 11th at 6:00 pm at St Pius X

Catholic Church celebrated by Fr. Ubald Rugirangoga from the Diocese of

Cyangugu, Rwanda.

During the 1994 genocide Fr. Ubald lost over 80 members of his family and

over 45,000 of his parishioners were exterminated. He escaped through the

Congo on foot in the middle of the night. When he left Rwanda at that time

he made a promise to his Bishop that he would return to bring healing to his

people.

Fr. Ubald has an amazing healing gift and his focus is on healing, forgiveness

and evangelization wherever he goes. The Government of Rwanda seeks him

out for advice on forgiveness and reconciliation as the country continues to

rebuild after the devastation of the genocide. He continues to preach

healing in Rwanda, the Congo and Burundi where it is not uncommon for

crowds up to 10-80,000 will come. He has traveled all over Europe, the Holy

Land and other parts of Africa. He made his first trip to the United States

in 2009, at the request of Immaculée Ilibagiza, author of ―Left to Tell,‖

another genocide survivor, who currently resides in the U.S. You may learn

more about Fr. Ubald and his work by going to www.frubald.com.

So please come, bring a friend, and tell others to join us for this special Mass

of Healing. Fr. Ubald will also say to come and pray for others who cannot be

there to pray for healing. Jesus is not limited to time and space. We look

forward to seeing you there.

Eran unas caras aburridas, cansadas, deprimidas etcétera.

hace presente en el sacramento de la Eucaristía.;
