Homework/Reading Folder Your child’s homework satchel needs to be returned every day. It is also a means of communication between school and home. The homework bag will be used to keep home reading books, reading signers and word boxes safe during home and school transition. Unfortunately, we lost a large number of readers in the past and need to monitor that all books are returned before a new one is taken.

Reading We will continue using reading cards for the first few weeks in order to set up routine and procedures. Home readers and word boxes will be sent home over the next few weeks. I welcome any volunteers to listen to children read and practise their sounds.

Jolly Phonics All Year 1 classes follow this program as well as the Pre-Primary classes. Everyday the children learn a new letter/sound. The order of the letters learnt can be seen in our classroom near our alphabet cards. Jolly Phonics is a great program, and our Interactive White Board makes this program extremely visual and hands on with a range of activities for each letter/ sound.

Notice Board We have a notice board outside the classroom. Please check for any important notes.

Behaviour Management Ø Our class reward system is based on magic stones that the children receive for

good behaviour. When the children reach 10 stones, they get a reward from the prize box.

Ø We have a consequence chart for inappropriate behaviour which is used by several classes: 1. 1 warning: the child places their name onto the sad face. 2. Second warning: the child places their name on the second sad face – the child

will sit in an area to think about their behaviour. 3. A third warning: the child places their name on the final sad face. They then go

to a time-out class. If a child has been sent to time-out, they will miss out on 15 minutes of free time or computer.

Parent Meetings Please let me know if you wish to arrange a time to meet with me. I am available on Monday or Tuesday after lunch or most days after school.

I hope 2018 is an enjoyable year and I look forward to a rewarding year with you and your child.

Kind Regards,

Vicki Cunningham Room 1 Classroom Teacher
