1st IECB Certification ExaminationThe Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers (PIIE) - through the Industrial Engineering Certification Board (IECB); administered the 1st Industrial Engineering Certification Examination last May 23, 2009 at the Procter and Gamble Auditorium, College of Engineering, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Q. C.

The historic examination is participated by new graduates of B.S. in Industrial Engineering and those with less than 10 years of relevant experience. Sixty examinees took the first nationwide CIE examination and 30 of them successfully passed.




This figure represents a 50% national passing rate. 1st place - Mr. Amando A. Radomes, Jr. - University of San Carlos (Cebu) - 87.00%; 2nd place - Mr. Francis Emmanuel C. Otadoy - University of San Carlos (Cebu) - 81.17% 3rd place - Mr. Christopher E. Tupaz - Adamson University - 79.71%.4th place - Ms. Precie O. The CIE examination was the product of a series of dialogues and consultations among academe, industry practitioners and international counterparts. It is an important initial step to enhance and professionalize the practice of Industrial Engineering (IE) in the country.

The program BSIE was first offered into the country by Adamson University in 1935 and since then it continues to evolve in a very dynamic curriculum producing graduates that are in demand in the service and manufacturing sectors. IE focuses on continuous improvement, productivity, systems and operational excellence and many of its graduates occupy key management positions in various companies.

In any industry, professional certification is valuable to promote a clearer public awareness and adds credibility and respect.

What is IE Certification?

IE Certification is a voluntary process, which validates an individual's qualifications in the field of industrial engineering (IE) professional practice.

It demonstrates to employers, clients, and peers the individual's knowledge and experience and signifies his or her commitment to continued excellence in IE professional practice.

In addition, it increases visibility, builds credibility, and validates expertise with those outside the profession




The IE Practitioner

A practitioner is defined as an individual who has:1. A mastery of basic industrial engineering knowledge

2. A command of the methodologies used by industrial engineers in applying that knowledge to the design of a product, process, or environment; and

3. Has applied his or her knowledge to the analysis, design, test, implementation and evaluation of products, processes, and environments.

Certification Levels

Level 1 The Certified Industrial Engineering (CIE)

The CIE is the designation for associate practice.

The criteria for CIE certification are: 1. An Active PIIE member 2. A Filipino citizen 3. A bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from CHED-recognized school/university

with an accredited B.S.I.E. program or an internationally accredited program 4. A passing score on the CIE written examination on IE Core Knowledge.

The CIE applies a general breadth of knowledge to analysis and evaluation. He should exhibit the minimum standards of competency for Industrial Engineering practice. The scope of practice for the CIE is limited to the use of commonly accepted tools and techniques for the analysis and enhancement of performance in existing systems.




Level 2 The Professional IE (PIE)

The PIE is the designation for professional practice.

The criteria for PIE certification are: 1. Filipino citizen/ naturalized (NSO certified) 2. CIE + masters degree + 2 years experience OR CIE + 5 years experience 3. Testimonial of major IE work experience 4. Passing score in PIE Exam

The PIE applies and develops methodologies for analyzing, designing, testing, and evaluating systems. The professional practitioner addresses complex problems and advances industrial engineering technologies and methods in his/her area of specialization.




Level 2 The Professional IE (PIE)

Areas of Specialization:

1. Production & Manufacturing Systems 2. Operations Research 3. Quality Engineering 4. Human Factors and Ergonomics 5. Service & Management Systems 6. Supply-Chain Management/Logistics

Renewable every three years

CIE GENERAL APPLICATION PROCEDURE

1. The applicant obtains an application form from the Office of the IECB Secratariat and pays the application fee of PHP 500 for CIE applicants

Alternatively, the downloadable version of the Application Form and Recommendation Forms may be printed and the application fees paid upon filing of the application.

2. Non-PIIE members who wish to apply for PIIE membership and PIIE members who wish to renew their membership should visit the PIIE website at [www.piie.org] for application and membership renewal details.

STEPS:1. The applicant fills out and submits the forms together with the other requirements by the deadlines set by the IECB. 2. Payment of application fee can be done at the office of the IECB Secretariat or through bank deposit.

Check payments should be payable to Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers. For bank payments, please contact the IECB Secretariat for bank details. The deposit slip should be faxed or mailed to the IECB Office for confirmation.

3. The IECB will mail the exam permit (for CIE applicants) and the official receipt to the applicant's mailing address within one week upon confirmation of bank payment.

Each application should be accompanied by: - a filled-out Application Form and one (1) photocopy using IECB-CIE Form No. 2 - authenticated/Certified true copy of Transcript of Records or Diploma - four (4) colored 2” x 2” size ID pictures - NSO/LGU certified birth certificate or naturalization documents - application fee of PHP 500.00.

Note:Successful CIE applicants should personally confirm their registration to the IECB Secretariat during the scheduled registration period for CIE certifications.

Successful applicants will also be scheduled for the oath-taking ceremony where their presence is also required.

16 RefresherA 30-item exam shall be administered in the first hour of the session. All the solutions shall be discussed on the rest of the session.

17 Final Coaching Various review materials shall be given randomly. Evaluation may be done through exams.

18 FinalsThis is a simulated Certification Exam. A 200-item exam, 50 items per module, that shall be administered on a Sunday. Modules A and B are from 8:00-12:00NN; while Modules C and D are from 1:00-5:00PM.
