111th Corps, CARRY ON! Carry on! Daily the command is heard by the cadets

of the 111th Corps at Wentworth Military Academy. From the moment the students arrive on campus, dis­covering a new world, they learn to carry on.

For WMA, the command "Carry on!" takes on a spe­cial meaning for the 1991 school year. As school opened, enrollment was low yet the corps and the staff carried on.

During the first week of school, tragedy struck the campus when Col. James MacBrayer sellers, Sr., died and the corps was quickly prepared to perform the mil­itary funeral ceremony in his honor.

And they carried on. Within another week, Col. Mac Sellers, Jr., resigned

as the superintendent, effective September 15, 1990. LTC John Edwards, the operations officer, stepped in to sen/e as the interim superintendent.

And WMA followed the order to carry on. As the year proceeded, the corps struggled to meet

the demands of the academic work, of the military training, of the companies' demands, and of the athlet­ic competitions.

Seldom was there time to let up on the regimen. Each cadet is part of the corps and his success or fail­ures effect the the flow of the year's progress. As the months passed, WMA carried on as did the search for the new superintendent.

The search ended over the corps' Thanksgiving break. When school resumed on November 26, the announcement was made.

Lt. Gen.Robert Arter would carry on the 111 year heritage of WMA.

On January 7, 1991, LTG Arter addressed the cadet corps and the entire staff for the first time. In that mes­sage, the WMA community was set to carry on the high standards and the traditions which have been the hallmark of WMA. LTG Arter added to the traditional standards a new definition of the WMA community in his remarks. Arter added spice to the 111th Corps by breathing brotherhood into the cadet's spirit.

No longer is the community of WMA limited — now, as we carry on towards the 21 si century, the bound­aries of the WMA community are to become interna­tional. — Levi Peckham '94

No Other individual who has been connected with WMA has ever personi­fied the true essence of the WMA cadet as defined in the cadet prayer.

James MacBrayer Sell­ers was born a part of the academy on June 20, 1895, in a room located in the current Administration Building.

From that day, when his father was superinten­dent, Sellers began the process of carrying on the WMA image outlined in the cadet prayer.

" . . . Endow us with greater wisdom that we might search after God as our Guide and Friend. Give to us a sense of responsibility for seeking that which is high and noble."

Sellers became a cadet at WMA in 1907 and grad­uated from the academy in 1912.

As a student at the Uni­versity of Chicago, he was a University Marshal and a member of Beta Theta Pi. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa his junior year and graduated summa cum laude in

1917. ".., Direct our lives into

the paths of service, and inspire us with courage to stand by our convictions even in the face of danger or death/'

He responded to a Marine Corps commission at Quantico, Virginia, offi­cers training.

In early 1918, he sailed to France as a platoon leader in the Sixth Marine Regiment of the Second Division.

On June 6, 1918, he was seriously wounded in the engagement of the war at Belleau Woods.

Later he participated in major engagements at St. Mihiel, Mont Blanc, and the Argonne as a compa­ny commander.

For his bravery in action, he was decorated with the Dist inguished Service Cross, the Navy Cross, the Silver Star, the Purple Heart, the World War I Victory Medal with four battle stars, and the French Cruix de Guerre.

In 1945, Sellers retired from the Marine Reserves as a lieutenant colonel.

In 1920, Sellers returned to WMA where he served as comman­dant until 1933, as super­intendent until 1960, and as president until his death this fall.

Of his 70 years with the academy, he literally influ­enced thousands of young men. As an active teacher, he completed his final class just one month before his 95th birthday this year.

" . . . Let laughter live within our souls; but enable us to sympathize with suffering and grief; and may we be always ready to defend the weak and oppressed."

Sellers's community service included active involvement in Frema-sonary where he served as a Past Master of the Lexington Lodge, Past Grand Commander of the Grand Commandary of Missouri, AF&AM.

He was also involved in his church, the First Pres­byterian Church of Lex­ington, as a choir mem­ber, Sunday School teacher, deacon and

to carry on elder.

He served as a lifetime member and a past presi­dent of the Lexington Turn-ers Club.

"... Make us physically pure, spiritually strong, and morally upright that we may ever maintain the integrity of the Corps, the honor our homes and our school, a true patriotism for our country, and a right attitude toward our God and our fellowmen."

Many people loved and respected Col. James MacBrayer Sellers not for just his own accomplish­ments, which he had many, but for the kind of person he was. Sellers could truly be described as an officer and a gentle­man.

He always was willing to help another person out, putting them in front of himself.

This is a man who was a true cadet himself, and set the standards for cadets to follow looking to him as a model.

events other than the stay at the Lake of the Ozarks and day trips into Kansas City (right). Summer

Enrollment breaks summer records On June 24, 1990, the summer school cadet corps

almost broke the enrollment record. They were the largest enrollment of summer school cadets since World War II.

Under the direction of Capt. Bob Sellers, son of act­ing superintendent Col. Mac Sellers, Jr., the new boys discovered their new surroundings and the way WMA operated while Old Boys came to brush-up on their studies and help out the new boys.

Old Boys attending were Brad Rowland, Paul Haley, Brain Doyle, Isaac Candelaria, Christopher Kraby, Christopher Wright, Christopher Smith, Thomas Granat, Colin Giblin, Chad Camp, and Travis Green­lee.

Chris Larkin also played an important role serving

as the executive officer for the summer school. Larkin often took charge of the company in Seller's absence.

A variety of classes were offered from seventh to twelfth grade levels while the majority of students were in the ninth grade with the eighth and tenth following close behind.

Eight of the summer school cadets took advantage of the Education Assistance Ltd., (EAL) program offered during the summer school session. These stu­dents, which included Rodney Hartley, Todd Parsons, Julian Johnson, Kenyon Keller, Guss Rogers, Jeremy Wilkins, Michael Sampson, and Miles Hepinstall, a\\ appreciated the financial support granted to them. EAL's goal is to help underprivileged pursue their aca­demic goals.

Among other happenings duhng the summer school session was the visit by Hollywood star, Anson Williams, who is now a director.

Williams is well renown for his career as "Potsy" in the television series Happy Days. Since the end of his acting career, Williams has a career as a director and was at the academy doing research for his upcoming film called Soldier Boys.

Williams was accompanied by Lyie Kessler, the pro­duction's writer, and Kate Arnold, production coordina­tor for the Missouri Film commission.

Regular study periods were conducted every evening Sunday through Friday with a faculty member and a senior cadet officer always present to give help and to keep things quiet.

Summer camp also kept Capt. Rick Cottrell and his staff, Capt. Royce Noland, Mark McCarter, and Randy Florence busy. This summer, WMA had campers from five states as well as several from Mexico.

The summer camp consisted of a four- and a six-week sessions, and offered a variety of activities. The campers participated in swimming, fishing, riflery, archery, crafts, canoeing, drill, and many sports in which the campers compete.

Campers were introduced to the We-Wo-Mil-Ac Indi­an tribe, which is a summer camp tradition. Under the direction of Christie and Tom Butler, campers join in pow-wows and learned about Indian lore and cere­monies.

During camp, the campers wear military summer khaki uniforms, they held formations with the summer school cadets at meal time. The campers also take a class period a day to keep up with their studies.

Summer campers also took trips to the Kansas City Zoo, Worlds of Fun, Fort Osage, Lake of the Ozarks, and a Kansas City Royals' baseball game.

September began year to be filled with change

September was a month to remember for new cadets that come to WMA. Each and every new cadet went through a period of homesickness due to the changes from every day life at home.

Each new cadet now has their own responsibility to maintain. These responsibilities were never enforced in every day civilian life. These responsibilities are to shine their brass and their shoes and to keep their rooms in proper inspection order 24 hours a day.

Later on in the month, cadets started to get the hang of things. Their responsibilities were done most of the time and things were working out better.

Pretty soon WMA football began. Each cadet, Old Boy or New Boy, had to form up on the quad and march to every home football game.

Activities fill October with special events

October is month full of activities in which the cadet morale transcends the normal, everyday attitudes. Two of the most important events to the cadets was Parent's Weekend and Homecoming.

For some cadets it is the first time they've seen their parents since September. Since they've left home, they could only recount what they have learned, now is their day to show their parents. The squad drill which is the first activity on the agenda that was won by Dan Hinds's squad of Alpha Company.

The following day was an important day for Wentworth's Red Dragons. The football team had a game against Polo who they had not beaten in fifteen years. It was a long and hard game, but thanks to the roar of the corps and the cheers from the parents, Wentworth was victorious.

Closely following Parent's Weekend was Homecom­ing Weekend for which the cadets had to quickly pre­pare. The cadets spent an entire afternoon raking leaves, scrubbing floors, and painting walls in prepara­tion for the weekend. The weekend included selection of the homecoming queen, the alumni basketball game which the alumni won for the seventh year in a row, and cleaning the stadium for the annual homecoming football game to prepare for the rivalry between Went­worth and Kemper.

Also during October, Headquarters Company, trying to desperately make money for their trip to London, held car washes in Blue Springs to raise money. The car wash turned out to be a big success, which caused morale to soar even higher as the band moved toward their goal.

November focuses on tradition Veteran, Thanksgiving, Academics

November was a month that cadets thought would never come. Two reasons are that new cadets were receiving their hat brasses and that they were ready to go home on their first vacation of the year-Thanksgiv­ing.

The hat brass ceremony was not as big a deal to the Old Boys as it was to the Rats, the new cadets for the 1991 school year.

This ceremony took place on a Sunday during dress parade. Only cadets who received their hat brasses got to participate in the ceremony. Every cadet who had earned their hat brasses got to line up and put the brasses on their blues hat.

Then the big excitement came on November 22. On Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 P.M., cadets were permit­ted to leave on a four-day leave.

Everyday on campus went wild that day. This was the first time In two months that cadets could put on civilian clothes and see all their old friends again.

Some cadets were not as lucky to go home due to distance or other individual reasons, but they were just as glad to be on their own for four days of free time.

December days short as holidays arrive

uecemoer was a montn or variea emotions as the corps moved with the flow of the battalion as the United States moved closer to war with Iraq in the Middle East,

With December, the search for a new superintendent was completed with LTG Robert Arter accepting the position. The announcement opened the month and he participated in recruiting and in planning activities during the month even though his official day to begin was not until January 1, 1991.

The recruiting campaign was kicked off with open houses in Kansas City and other metropolitan areas in the midwest.

The Kansas City open house was held at the Adams Mark on December 1. Members of the Kansas City Parent's Club and their sons participated in the activities.

On December 6, the SROTC held its annual dining-in and inspection with the inspector General. The junior college cadets attended with high school cadets serving as waiters. The formal dinner is also one of the enjoyable events of the year for these cadets.

The annual Christmas Dance was held on Saturday, December 8, which is the last weekend before cadets leave for Christmas break. Mrs. Norma Maring. alumni director, recruited young ladies from neighboring towns to come tor the dance and other guests were invited by the students themselves.

The emotions of the month were characterized by the anticipation of the coming Christmas break and the New Years Eve plans they had planned for their return home.

As the break approached, cadets with tours rushed to march them off. Cadets found it difficult to keep their minds on the books. Visions of the upcoming celebration was all cadets could talk and think about.

Finally, on December 13. the cadets awakened with a feeling of relief because they were able to actually begin the Christmas break. They could actually return home for an extended length of time. They could escape from the books.

The calendar year was going to be' over, but the semester was not. When they returned, they would have to remember all they could from literature, history, math, science, and their other classes.

All of the cadets were gone from the campus on December 14. Silence began to fill the halls of the barracks, the field house, and the academic building. Yet the work of the staff and the administratiors continued.

The week before Christmas, LTG Arter called the administrators and other staff members together to prepare a five year plan. The result was a plan which focuses on increasing enrol lment, upgrading present faci l i t ies, rebuilding the facility destroyed by fire in 1976, improving the alumni program, and increasing and improving the educational offerings for the cadets.

As WMA wrapped up the short school month, the United States waited for the January 15 deadline for peace in the Middle East.

Both sides of the forces built up the manpower and tensions rose with the anticipation of war with Iraq. As the build-up continued, WMA soon learned that it would affect it, too.

Commander Ed Ellis In December, a great friend and special leader passed

away. Commander Ed Ellis at ttie age of 83 died at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City. Funeral ser­vices were held on December 27 at the First Christian of Lexington. Burial took place in the Machpelah Cemetery.

Ellis taught American Government and coached track. basketball, and football at Wyandotte High School in Kansas City from 1937 to 1967. Then he moved to Went-worth to teach American Government in 1967. Ellis was a very successful at his job as a teacher. He was respected by his students and had high expectations for each of them.

He was, at one time, president of the Kansas City High

School Activities Association, and received the Knute Rockne award in 1955. He was also inducted into the Eari Smith Hall of Championships at the Kemper Arena in 1987 and is a member of both the Wyandotte and Went-worth Halls of Frame.

Ellis's wife, Elizabeth, cun-ently lives in Lexington. TTiey have one daughter, Jobeth Maas, who lives in Boliver, Missouri. They also have two grandchildren.

Cmdr. Ellis loved his duty as a teacher. His compassion and love for American Government inspired his excellent teaching ability. A very kind and patriotic man he will remain. Always. — Levi PecWiam '94

Lt. Gen. Robert Arter After the Christmas Break, cadets returning to campus

had a surprise in store for them. Lieutenant General Robert Arter had filled the superintendent position. Dr. Fred Sellers, president of the academy's Board of Trustees, announced his appointment a week before cadets arrived back on cam* pus. Quickly getting down to business, Arter briefed the entire crops and discussed with them what he intended to do with the Academy.

Arter was bom in Massillon, Ohio on September 7, 1929. Upon his graduation at Ohio University in 1950, Arter was {X>mmissioned a second lieutenant and awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in personal management. Arter's military service included a wide variety of positions culminating in his assignment as Commanding General of the Sixth United States Army, Presidio of San Francisco. He obtained many

awards and decorations. Arter retired from active duty on March 31, 1986. He and his wife, the former Louise C. Sayles, are the parent of two children, Caroline and Robert.

With the Board of Trustees looking forward to a strong, supportive working relationship. Gen. Arter began to work for the academy on January 1, successor to Col. J.M. Sellers, Jr.

A shock to everyone, Gen. Arter resigned from his posi­tion, claiming that a personal situation would prevent him from devoting his full time and energy to performing his duties he felt necessary for the position. Lt. Colonel John Edwards filled in the position once again while the Board of Trustees began searching once again for a new superinten­dent. Arter made it known, though, that he would be happy to help the school with it's capita! campaign effort and any other projects in the future.

When the parade ended, the tension of being out of step, the sin of not having your dress, the stress of having the brass shined gone, the cadets spent most of the time in the hotel recouperating.

Early the next morning, the cadets took a panoramic tour of London; and after the tour, spent the afternoon at leisure, seeing the parts of London they wanted to see. The cadets were mainly centered around Piccadilly.pircus, which is made up of numerous stores, restauram, and places to hang out. Outdoor shopping was fun. H t very expensive. • '

The next morning the group headed for a complSe of touring at Stratford upon Avon, which was the home for William Shakespeare and the magnificent Warwick Castle. The wax figures looked life like in the castle, mystifying the cadets. Also featured was the dungeon w h i c h ^ the cadets enjoyed. ^

January started off slowly for the cadets at WMA. Getting back from a 23 day break, jumping back into school life was hard. Eventually, with all of the activities surrounding the cadets, time speeded up.

The nnonth began with the official arrival of LTG Arter as the new superintendent. Three days after cadets returned to classes LTG Arter briefed the cadets about his goals as the new superintendent and his dream of "brotherhood" among the cadets.

Among things happening during January, the basketball, the wrestling, and the swimming teams were in the heart of their season's competitons.

Many games were held in the field house with attendance becoming mandatory for all home basketball games. The cadets helped cheer on the junior college and the high school basketball teams.

Other activities included a trip for math students who went to the Knob Noster Math Relays, a Falcon CFT, and finals. Finals week went by briskly, although the finals themslves did not. Studying diligently led to high scores on the finals.

A day after finals were over, enrollment for the second semester was held in the Student Union. Old Boys showed families the campus, introduced them to some of the WMA traditions, and taught the new boys how to make their beds, how to shine their shoes, and how to situate their rooms.

The enrollment for the second semester was around 40 students. The administrators felt that the December recruiting efforts provided this increase.

The military operation in the Middle East was the primary focus for most of the campus as the January 15 deadline came and went. Then on January 16, the Desert Shield Operation became the Desert Storm as the war began.

Cadets on free periods crowded the TV rooms and watched to learn of the events In the Persian Gulf. CNN was watched for hours on end and even during JROTC drill. Everbody watched and wondered just how the was was going to affect their lives.

Still campus life continued. On January 27, the annual announcement of the MacArthur Awards was made during the dress parade. Cadet Mark Sellers, son of Fred Sellers, president of WMA's Board of Directors, was the high school recipient and Cadet Robert Nace was given the junior college award. The award is given for superior military aptitude and morale.

Second semester took off like a bullet on January 28. Campus life, greatly in tune with the servicemen's life in the Middle East, moved into the last half of the school year. Cadets carried on into February.

Storm brings focus to campus Wednesday, February 20, was a special day. DRC dominated the scene as

channel 9 station KMBC visited campus and filmed the corps marching into the mess hall. The main reason for the visit was to interview students for their opinion about Wentworth and the invoivment in the military.

Operation Desert Storm was discussed and Wentworth was used as an example of the military training the U.S. Troops have been through in preparation to joining the elite forces.

During the dinner cadets Massie and Leclerq were awarded the honorary banana bread by Mrs. McCrary for their membership in the Crimson Society. The Crimson Society is for the special cadets who have remained students at Wentworth for five full years.

February was a month of transition for sports as high school basketball ended on February 18, and Coach Long kicked off the track season while there was still snow on the ground.

The state swim meet was held on the four days later, and although Wentworth had no state qualifiers, cadets Hefner and Stromquist just missed the times.

The annual APO dance was on february 25 with the traditional ugly man contest taking place. Cadet Brooks from Headquarters company took first place, and cadet Peckham replied later "Brooks is really ugly!" f\^ajor Yount won the fifties dance contest by dancing in a cardboard rendition of a jukebox.

Winter activities i<eep cadets b u s " February

Although February is the smallest month, there were many things going on at the campus. In just ttie first weekend alone there were five important events in the cadets lives.

To top off the first weekend in February the band and seven other cadets attended a rally supporting the troops of Ray County in Richmond. The band played the traditional military repertoire the corps hear every weekend, but for some the songs had an in-depth meaning.

"I was honestly touched," said cadet Casey Wineland afterwards. The whole thing was quite an experience, and the twenty-one gun salute topped off the event that will never be forgotten.

The weather was perfect for the awesome display of school spirit as Wentworth basketball teams scored victories over Kemper. This was Junior Col­lege basketball coach Tom Hughes' first time to wit­ness this accomplishment in the seven years that he has been here.

The social side of life was kept alive by the dance class dance that was held on the 9th and two trips to Kansas City, one for the K,C. Blades hockey game, and the other for a trip to the Waldo Astoria.

Valentines day came with a rush of care packages from parents, relatives, and girlfriends. Almost every cadet got a taste of something from home. The cadets were photographed with the flag signed by the corps and detailed "We Support Our Troops". The flag was donated by Wentworth old boy Stan Wojciechowski, class of 79. Stan is now a police officer in the town of Carpetsville, Illinois.

The corps' morale was also up for the end of the grading period on the fifteenth, and on that same day a plaque of recognition was awarded to Wentworth for participation in the war rally at Richmond. General Arter received the plaque with the band members in attendance.

March blows in March was a very exciting month for the cadet corps.

The anticipation of Spring Break was high, and unfortunate­ly the break went by quickly. Spring sports also began with track, tennis, golf, and baseball for the junior college. Over­all, the month came and went by very briskly, and the cadets were kept very busy.

On March 1, the grading period ended. Then on March 2, the cadets traveled to CMSU for a math relay and per­formed superbly. To close the weekend, the Sunday ribbon parade honored Headquarters, Foxtrot, and Alpha compa­ny-

The basketball banquet took place on March 4, hononng the high school and junior college teams. The following evening, the swimming and wrestling banquet was held. Banquets were also held for the academic, disciplinary, and military awards for semester.

On March 13, preparations for Spring Break were being made when the weather surprised the cadets by snowing. The next morning the buses loaded and the Spring Break began. While the cadets were away on the break, the girl scouts slept overnight in the field house.

Sphng Break ended on the 24, and the cadets jumped back into school life. With the end of his 12th week as superintendent, General Robert Arter resigned from his duty. Beginning with hope and still carrying on, the board of directors began searching for a new superintendent.

That day also, though, LTC Clarence Taronto was _ appointed as the new commandant for WMA. The school's track team also opened the season with the indoor track meet. The golf team competed against Lexington, and the tennis players competed against Smith Cotton.

With the grading period ending on March 29, the cadets waited patiently for April to hit the calendars, and they pre­pared to carry on to yet another new month.

April is wild and crazy

April was one of the most exciting months for the cadets. April held many events that made the time at the academy fly by. During the Spring Parent's Weekend, many events were held. Beginning on Friday night, the annual talent show took place, headed by Dr. D'Aurelio and the Went-worth Cavaliers. They ran threw three jazz numbers, and then Jacob Sherman did a wonderful skit on Mrs. Shroyer's "English Class" which led to a lot of laughter in the audi­ence. Foxtrot's "Busted Commanders" was next, which had been previewed previously by cadets, but it still got the laughter approval. Tony Nivison and Jason Arhart played a snare drum duet that was quite amusing, to be followed by the rock band the Dragon Slayers. Vocalist Casey Wineland, lead guitarist Clark McNulty, rhythm guitarist Les Wiles, bass player Mark Sellers and drummer Levi Peck-ham ran threw some Black Sabbath to entertain the crowd, which contained astonishing solos by McNulty and Peck-ham.

Saturday evening was the most highlighted event of the year, the formal annual military ball. Everyone enjoyed themselves and danced. Everyone was dressed up, and pictures were taken of cadets and their dates.

Sunday brought a formal parade, and then to the closing of parent's weekend. Cadets took everything in stride, and where beginning to see the light in May which was so close. They carried-on with astonishing patriotism and courage into May.

In order to recognize their longevity to WMA, this year's inducties into the Crimson Society are Capt. Nicholas James LeClercq and Sgt. Douglas Ray Massie.

Welcome to the Crimson Society, gentleman Capt. LeClercq has put many miles on The Thing, a

Bronco, which finally had to be retired. Arriving at Went-worth for his sophomore year, LeClercq has had special feeling for windows, rapelling out of them more often than the Commandant's office caught him at. He has the uncanny ability to know when the company is doing something wrong and l<nowing when and where to catch that cadet—in the act. His inside, working knowledge of the rules and regs is undoubtedly an asset to his position of captain for his final year as a college freshman.

Other than faculty members who else at Wentworth can say they've put so many daily miles on their vehicle, other than Sgt. Doug Massie. Massie joined the cadet corps as an eighth grader and is now ready to graduate. While LeClercq's miles were added to his Bronco by mak­ing trips to and from Colorado, Massie is currently driving about 100 miles a day in order to go to school and work in Blue Springs. No wonder he has to drive a Nova, or a truck, or—what is the other vehicle? Maybe it should be a mail truck. Certainly Massie will be qualified after four years as the mail NCO.

The Crimson Society, which was developed by the 1990 yearbook staff, is designed to recognize those cadets who have been a Wentworth Cadet for five or more years.

In order to qualify, a c^det must have come on campus during junior high and stayed five years or more, or have joined the corp of cadets as at least a sophomore in high school and stayed through junior college.

The name Crimson was chosen because of its relation­ship to the color of purplish red. Purple being the color of royalty, and red being our school color. Using the term Society refers to a group of people and not just one indi­vidual.

M: Dorris, because he cleared my tours for getting thrown out of Capt Allen's ctass.

L: Dorris, because he was flawless in his appearance, was high speed, got things done, and what he said was what was done.

2) What do you most remember about your favorite CO ?

M: Cpt. Karashi. t^^ause he always u s ^ to come out in the hallway and pull your ears.

L: Capt. Magazine, because of his hick music and bald head.

3) What are the best memories of what was your best year? Wiy?

M: Foxtrot, Everyone used to make Maj. Short run out the room by coughing on him and he*s do his Ralphy Shuffle.

L: Last year, I was a squared-away platoon leader, lived in Hickman Hall, had a great company, and we won the Bassore Award.

4) Who did you most respect at WMA ? Why ?

M: Capt. Hughes, because he always treated everyone like they were his own son.

L: Kirk, because he was the Company CommarKler of the summer school when I first came here. He was the first person I met.

5) What was your biggest disappointment at WMA ? Why?

M: Not getting lieutenant after being here my whole life, and seeing other people getting rank and abusing it.

L: 1 came back for officer after having been given t ie same rank for four years.

6) What changes have you seen in yourself since being at WMA?

M: I am a tot more self-confident.

L: I am more independent, self-reliant, disciplined, and respectful.

7) Will leaving WMA be easy for you ?

M: Yes, I've been here so long that it's all I know. It has b^n my w^ole life and (will never forget ft.

L: Yes, I've learned all that 1 could here. IVe really been f^re too tong, and I'm ready for a change.

Massie: Who will never forget the time when Cadet Lt. Col. Baiz made everyone ride the Hartey in the mess hall.

Le Clercq: Who will be remembered as being psycho, and his unique way of leading Charlie Company.

Dear Alpha,

I scrnetimes find it difficult to think about the past year without following the same pattern as so many cormanders before me. I find some relief however in all the first's that our Alpha set this year.

When the "Beast" joined "Old Alpha", all the fun began. If it wasn't one exciting adventure, it was another. From the monotonous hailing of 'Victory'* on Sunday to the "borrowing" of radios from the First Sergeant; Alpha Corpany never ceased to amaze me, when times got tough the best came out of everyone. Buddy's helped buddy's, like Cronin giving his buddy McDonough the last of his chocolate; when Gilbert so selflessly volunteered to help Lowe win "Best Room" of the year; and not to forget Bowen's tireless effort to help McDonough in personal inspection.

I challenge all of you returning men to strive for more in the future, remenbering all the good and the bad, and to learn from it. Also, don't forget "Hair cuts next week!" Best of luck to all, It was a pleasure!

Gentleman, This has definately been a year of great accomplishment for Foxtrot,

weve set standards, this year, that are easy to imitate, but VERY diificult to duplicate- v e began the year by setting realistic goals, and truly believing that we could achieve those goals. We possessed all the components of success- attitudes, beliefs, behaviors, and most of all.- motivation. Utilizing all these components helped us, not only to win every guideon possible, but it also gave us a sense of pride which could be sen through each and every one of you. Although we experienced many high points tnroughout this year let us not forget about our key memorable events such as:

Despite storm, carry on! A desert storm developed this year which affected each

and every American. Yet, the people carried on. A storm on campus erupted as Col. Sellers, Sr. died and

the changes began sweeping across the campus. Yet, the cadets of the 111th Cadet Corps carried on.

No one can ever truly forecast when a storm will hit and how much damage may occur. But like the servicemen who went to Saudi Arabia learned, the damage which occurs can leave its mark on you for a lifetime. Yet, despite all, the men carry on.

When the death of Col. Sellers hit the school, it created a number of changes. Yet, despite all, the cadets carry on.

The traditional roles of the military and the jobs which are assigned to each man in the service, creates a uniquely strong bond which has continued to provide success which carries on even after the storm.

The traditional values and roles which have developed at Wentworth, too, create the strengths which allows the staff and the cadets to carry on after the death of Col. Sellers.

Where does one go after a Desert Storm? He returns to the community, to his family to carry on with his own life — changed, but stronger.
