WE’RE WORKINGFOR THE KINGDOM!

Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 15:1-8: ‘I delivered to you first of all that whichI also received, how that Christ died forour sins according to the Scriptures,that He was buried and that He roseagain the third day according to theScriptures, that He was seen ofCephas, then the twelve, after that ofabove 500 at one time, then of James,then of all the apostles, and last of allHe was seen of me also.’

Our Gospel is based on three things:Christ died, rose again and He’s com-ing again.

In Dewsbury, the town where I live, Irecently attended a simple ceremonyon the 102nd anniversary of the sink-ing of the Titanic. The reason for thecelebration is that the Bandmaster,famed for playing the hymn, ‘Nearermy God to Thee’ as the ship wentdown, came from Dewsbury. None ofthe bandsmen survived, but the bodyof Wallace Hartley, the Bandmaster,was recovered, and, strapped to hisbody, the violin which he played. Lastyear that violin – an ordinary one, butbought for the Bandmaster by hisfiancée – went up for auction. It wassold for just under £1 million! A water-damaged violin that can’t be played!But Wallace was a Christian. Insteadof saving his own life, he struck up thishymn! How amazing that a violin sosimple, from one man, can be worthso much!

And here we are, remembering thedeath of Jesus! But the miracle ofJesus is not just His death, but His life!He rose again! They saw Him! Wedon’t talk to a dead man, He’s alive,we have a living Saviour! We have an

empty cross and an empty tomb,because Christ is risen!

The very day that I was at the memori-al in Dewsbury remembering theTitanic, people were filling the footballstadium in memory of the HillsboroughStadium Disaster 25 years ago when96 were crushed to death and 766were injured. And in the same weekas these anniversaries, there was thetragic sinking of the South Korean ferrywith those hundreds of teenagers onboard. When they finally got into thehull, they found nobody alive. Yes wecan have a memorial of death.

But we have a living Christ. We canrejoice in the power of God and thepower of the Gospel! And we can cel-ebrate His death! Romans 6:2-3 says:‘How shall we that are dead to sin livein it any longer? Don’t you know thatthose of us who were baptised intoJesus Christ, were baptised into Hisdeath?’ Forty years ago in Hungary inthe communist era, I was asked tospeak at a baptism of young people.I’m so used to water baptism – but inHungary they had never heardpreaching like that on water baptism!They all wanted audio tapes of what Ihad said. Forty years after that bap-tismal service I met one of the pastorswho had been there. He said that hehas memorised and preached thatmessage time and time again eversince. I’ve baptised people in Israel, inthe Jordan. But two years ago I waspresent at a baptism in Israel and Iwasn’t taking the service. This evan-gelical pastor never really mentionedthe truth of what water baptism isabout! But we can celebrate death!I’m a dead man! In water baptism we

are buried with Christ in death that,just as Jesus was raised from the dead,so we come up out of the water intonew life! Our water baptism is not justa testimony, or an act of obedience,it is literally the death of the old naturebeset by the devil: “Devil, you can’ttouch me, I’m dead!” So I’m rejoicing,praise God, I’m a dead man! Just asJesus came out of the grave, so I rosefrom the water and participate in theresurrection of Christ! Physically, literal-ly, absolutely part of the resurrection!Isn’t that wonderful!!! – Romans 6:4-5.

Read on, vv 6-9, Paul says if we aredead, we are free from sin! And if weare dead with Christ, we shall also livewith Him; knowing that death has nomore dominion over Him, so also reck-on yourself dead to sin and alive untoJesus Christ! Death of the old! Life ofthe new! This is a tremendous miracle!Everything about Jesus is a miracle –His birth, His death! God created theworld – it’s a miracle! But one of thehardest things for religion is to acceptmiracles. There are some churchesthat won’t have me preach becauseof the miracles. It takes faith to believein miracles. Without faith you have nomiracles; if you have miracles, youneed faith! Our whole Christian faith isbased on the miraculous!

My whole life has been formed by mir-acles, almost everything I do involvesa miracle. For me ‘Easter’ is a triplecelebration: the death and resurrec-tion of Christ – and my release from acommunist prison! Oh, and my birth-day. Easter means so much to mebecause 42 years ago in the difficultdays of communism I was in prison inCzechoslovakia for taking Bibles intothe East Bloc. A Czech historian hasfound that in London there is an enor-mous file on me, called ‘OperationShakespeare’! He found that, whilst Iwas shut up in prison, the British gov-ernment was doing nothing to get meout, and the Russians (who werebehind my arrest) didn’t want torelease me! The West was trying to getthe Russians to sign what was to beknown as the Helsinki Accords, guar-anteeing human rights and freedomfrom persecution – and this historiansaid, they were not bothered aboutme! I had been found guilty, not of

smuggling Bibles, but of the content ofthe Bible! They said it attacks the state!I was charged with ‘sedition’. Jesuswas crucified on that same charge!But we’re not of this world, we’re ofGod’s Kingdom! We’re strangers andpilgrims going to a promised land! Wehave Jesus Christ as Lord! So now itcomes down to miracles and faith!

The miracle of my getting out of prisonwas that two days after my trial andsentence God gave me a dream.They had said, “You’ll never get outalive” – the utter despair of thatmoment – no remission for good con-duct in those prisons – and I knew thatthey were already preparing furthercharges against me, includingpreaching the Gospel in the prison. Iwas in shock. But in that dream I sawmyself out of the prison, in the RoyalAlbert Hall in London. In those days theElim Churches that I belonged to hada big rally every year at Easter in theRoyal Albert Hall with 10,000 people. Isaw myself preaching! I said, “OhGod, this is impossible! I’m an unknownBible smuggler, and I’ve just been sen-tenced to what could be up to tenyears in prison!” But I began to prayinto it. I was forbidden to have myBible, but nine months into my sen-tence, something impossible hap-pened, I was able to smuggle my Bibleback into my cell! I read Ps 35:18, ‘I willgive Thee thanks in the great congre-gation.’ I jumped up and down! RoyalAlbert Hall. Easter Monday. I’m goinghome! Suddenly I had concrete evi-dence in the Word of God! God hadspoken! I will give God thanks for myrelease in the Royal Albert Hall!

But I wasn’t satisfied. I said, “Oh God, ifYou can work a miracle so big that Youcan get me out of this stinking prisonfor Easter, then why don’t You do abigger miracle? This year my birthdaycomes four days before Easter, sendme home for my birthday! If You cando this, show me another verse in thePsalms where You talk about releasinga prisoner who’s in chains.” I read onand in Ps 68:6 it said, ‘God sets the soli-tary in families and brings out those inchains’! I’m going home on my birth-day! And the miracle is, God didexactly what He said! I flew home onmy birthday with Prime Minister Harold

Wilson, and because of all the publici-ty, I was asked to speak in the RoyalAlbert Hall on the Easter Monday to10,000 people! As God had said.

This experience has coloured the wholeof my life, because God proved thatwhat He says, He does! When I prayover so many crises – like my lung can-cer in 2003 – my confidence is this, thatGod says, ‘My covenant will I notbreak, nor alter the thing that is one outof My lips’ – Ps 89:34 – this is the wholebasis of our faith! When I received theHoly Spirit as a boy, I knew that 1Corinthians 12:31 says, ‘Covet the bestgifts.’ Of the nine gifts, the one gift Ihave sought after all my life, more thanany other, is the gift of faith. Everythingin my life is based on faith.

Jesus, approaching His crucifixion –the world’s greatest evangelist, theSon of God, here on earth with powerto heal the sick, raise the dead, worksuch mighty miracles – knows thatafter three and a half years of ministry,He has got to die! All His disciplesrebelled against His death. They spokeagainst it, their whole intent was tostop Him! Why did Judas betray Him?He believed Jesus was going to bethe King, the Messiah, get rid of theRomans and rule Israel from Jerusalem– and that he, Judas, was going to beChancellor of the Exchequer. Whenhe realised Jesus was going to die,that all his hope, all his future wasgone – he had staked everything onJesus becoming the King – he wentout in shock and betrayed Him! Eventhe other 11 had their whole minds onthis; even after the resurrection, whenJesus told them to wait in Jerusalemfor the Promised Holy Spirit, the firstthing they said, in Acts 1:6, was “WillYou at this time restore the Kingdom toIsrael?” Jesus knew that when He diedHe would rise again – He died inabsolute faith. When you come toChrist, you are saved by faith – don’tget away from it! Saved by faith in thedeath of Christ, faith in the forgivenessof sin, faith in the resurrection, bap-tised by faith, knowing you will comeout of the water alive with Him! Faith inmiracles, faith in the power of God,faith in what God can do!

I’m always pleading, “Oh God, give

me that gift of faith!” From my earliestdays I’ve always lived by faith. When Ihad throat cancer I said, “If You wantme to stay in my church, don’t healme – I’ll learn to speak with my stom-ach muscles. But if You want me toleave everything and go to Israel andRussia, then I need a miracle!” Thatday I was healed, I refused to takeanother penny from the church. Iwent out, bought a piece of land,built a new home for my family, thenbought a brand new tour bus thatcost twice as much as the house. Ihad no money. But God had said“Go!” Today I am facing the biggestchallenge of my life. I’m being told bya donor, a businessman, “David, youcannot live by faith anymore! It wasalright when your mission was small.But it’s too big now to run by faith! Youhave to have substance, not faith.” ButHebrews 11 says faith IS the sub-stance!

I don’t know any other living man whohas seen as many miracles as I have!Read my book ‘Why Siberia?’ – it’s thestory of just 3 months in Siberia in 1994.We took 400 people with us – we hadno money – everybody told me Icouldn’t do it, it’s impossible! I wentand God met every need, paid everybill. Within one year, you couldn’t do itagain! The whole situation hadchanged. Why did I go? BecauseGod spoke to me in the 1980s andtold me the Iron Curtain would open.Nobody believed it. But I held thegreat prophetic East/West Confer-

ences in West Germany in 1988 and 89 –the Iron Curtain opened – that’s how myministry went into Russia so fast. We’veevangelised Russia literally from one sideto the other so strongly, visiting over 200towns and cities from east to west, wereached 80% of Russians with the live TVcrusades, with the call to repentance ontheir own state national TV. God had spo-ken, I believed it, and God did it! But Godwarned me from the beginning, the IronCurtain would not remain open. For 25years people have said, the Iron Curtainhas gone, it can never come back. Butjust look at the news today! All the coun-tries I have been evangelising in these 25years are under threat. Almost every oneof those towns in East Ukraine where youhave seen an uprising, people killed – I’vebeen there to evangelise! I say, thank YouLord, You sent me there! I’ve preachedthe Gospel, I’ve called the people torepent. Whatever happens there, theyhad a chance! I went in faith!

From Russia, God sent me to the Balticcountries. Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania.They’re also under threat from Russia. Ouraircraft are patrolling the sky over the bor-ders. But we’ve seen the greatest revivalin those countries. Hundreds of thousandscoming to Christ. I may never be able toget back. In September I’m in Polandevangelising. Poland has demanded10,000 NATO troops because they’reafraid – they have such a large borderwith Belorussia and Ukraine. I was there inKrakow in 2012 – 80,000 came. And Godpaid the bills. Now for 2 years we’ve had250 people working for us, evangelisingthe whole of Poland before we get there,stirring up the churches – the Catholics,the Protestants, the Evangelicals. By April,with 6 months still to go, already 603 busloads were booked to come to theFestival in Katowice! The cost is enormous!The budget is over £2 million! People arechallenging me, “How can you do it? It’simpossible!” But I believe in God! If I canbelieve that God raised Jesus from thedead, that He could forgive my sin andtransform my life – then nothing is impossi-ble!

In Israel the Russian-speaking Holocaustsurvivors listen to me and receive Christ,only because God allowed me to be in

one of their communist prisons! On one ofmy last visits to Israel, my taxi driver wasasking all the way to the airport, “Why didwe kill Him, Yeshua? He was a good man,He worked miracles. Why did He die? AllIsrael is asking this question!” Jesus died toset you free from your sin. The rejection ofthe Jews was so that the Gentiles couldcome into the Kingdom – God’s plan tosave YOU! God has a purpose and a plan– the Easter story is a picture of a Godwho has a plan, who knows the end fromthe beginning. In your times of crisis,you’ve got to trust Him. I have to trust Godfor Poland this year – for the enormousfinance, and that God will bring over100,000 people under the sound of theGospel. My ‘advisors’ are telling me, if I doit so big this year, I’ll never do it again. No!I shall be back next year – and do it big-ger still!

Why? Because I know how short the timeis! The EU was set up to stop war in Europe– but they didn’t reckon with Russia. Thethreat is that Russia is seeking to take backall the territory she lost to the West whenthe Iron Curtain opened. In a summit inGeneva they said they will resolve the cri-sis by diplomacy, but Putin said, “I reservethe right to send my army into theUkraine!” So is there peace in Europe? No!So how long have we got to preach theGospel, to win people for Christ?

Whatever God is calling you to do, do it!

1 Corinthians 15:13-14 Paul says emphati-cally, if there is no resurrection then Christis not risen, and if Christ is not risen, thenour preaching is in vain and your faith is invain – meaningless!

Our whole faith is based on the death andresurrection of Christ. He died and roseand He’s coming back! And if God coulddo that with Jesus, look what He can dowith you! Nothing is impossible. All my life Ihave trusted God. I trust God with my fam-ily, with my ministry. Without faith it’simpossible to please God, without faithyou do not reach the heart of God.

Faith in my life is the substance by which Ilive, the evidence by which I preach.

I go by faith.

Vladimir Some time ago I came across a maga-zine, ‘Prophetic Vision’. It’s from DavidHathaway. To my great surprise, therewas a picture of me! I thought: “Wow, I’ma popular person!” And I started to recallthe distant past. I was working in con-struction. It was winter 1996, and to getwarm by the fire quicker, I jumped downfrom a height of 4 metres. And broke myleg! The doctor said, “You’ll be in plasterfor three months.” But I was preparing forwater baptism. I wanted to be baptisedso much, but now how could I? You can’tjust take the plaster off, and you can’timmerse it in water! And I imagined that Icould be lowered into the water, andkeep my broken leg out! But then one ofmy legs would not be baptised! I’m wor-ried that I’ll be baptised, freed from allsins, and my broken leg would drag meback into the old life! My head was filledwith stupid thoughts.

But praise the Lord, David Hathawaycame to Chita and friends took me bycar to his evangelistic meeting. I had onlyrecently come to know God, and I was‘on fire’, I wanted to ‘eat’ the Word, thepreaching. Everything to do with theBible, with God – I just wanted it so much.On the way to the meeting my friendsasked me: “Have you got the other bootwith you?” I asked: “Why?” Theyanswered: “But how are you going towalk home tonight?!” To me, DavidHathaway was just a preacher, and heal-ing was not a priority – fear began tocreep into my heart! When we got to thehall, you have to walk down steps, thereare seats on both sides, and the aisle isdown the middle. And I’m walking downthe steps, on crutches, looking to the leftand right. Suddenly I see the believers arefull of expectation! And suddenly I realise:Wow! I’m in the spotlight tonight! Feargripped me even more. I couldn’t runaway on crutches!

We found seats and the service started.David Hathaway preached. Peoplerepented and then lined up for healing.

My home group leader says: “Let’s go toDavid Hathaway.” I say, “Why?” He says:“He will pray for your leg.” I’m thinking –oh oh, NO! Now I’m really caught! I said:“But look how many people there are!There are old women... They need heal-ing!” He says: “Hey, it’s OK! Come on!We’ll get you through!” You know, there issuch a thing as a ‘Christian priority line’.They took me to the front and I standthere on crutches. David points his fingerat my leg and says: “What happened?” Isay: “I have pain in my kidneys.” Michaeltranslated. David said: “Yes, yes, I under-stand, but what about your leg?” I said:“Well, it’s... I broke it...” And David said:“Come on, let’s pray!” And he says toMichael to take my crutches. He tookthem. There was nothing I could do! AndI’m thinking – what should I do now? HereI see my leg in plaster. I see the eyes ofDavid Hathaway, the pastor and theinterpreter. I could not see anything elseat this point. And David Hathaway praysin Jesus’ Name and says: “Come on,walk!” There was nothing I could do – Iwalked! And then I see the congregationin the hall shouting: “Wow! Hallelujah!”And I see the eyes of all the believers fullof excitement, they have been SO wait-ing for this moment! Well, because youcan see something... When they pray forpain in the kidneys, you can’t see howthe kidneys are transformed and madenew. But here you’ve got someone whocame with crutches and leaves withoutcrutches! And people shout “Hallelujah!Glory to God.” And I am so... Yes... yes... Iwalked up the steps, my leg was still hurt-ing. I got to my seat.

And at the end of the meeting my homegroup leader comes up and says: “Let’swalk!” And I say: “No, I’d rather sit.” And Ihad the crutches with me. Michael want-ed to take them from me, but I said, “Ican’t give away. They’re not mine. I haveto return them to the owner.” So I keepthese crutches. And we sit. Everyone isgoing home. My leg still hurts. I saw thatDavid Hathaway was alone, so I went upand asked him to pray. He prayed. No

one was in the hall, all gone. And Iwalked away shouldering the crutches tothe street. You go through the park,through the arch, and get to Lenin Street.I’m shouldering these crutches. My leghurts. And I think – it’s dark in the park,there’s no one here, the car’s waiting forme there, I can use my crutches – there’sa chain you need to climb over – it wouldbe easier for me to climb over the chainwith my crutches. But I stepped over with-out them! There are my friends in the carwaiting for me, they called me andhonked. I sat down and went with them.But what is my point? I was baptised –both my legs! It was so wonderful!

Valentina In May 1993 I came to the Lord, weary, wound-ed, downtrodden. I had incurable multiple scle-rosis. My left side was paralysed. I could noteven carry a bag in my left hand. If I stood along time, my knees would buckle and I wouldfall. I could be walking, then all of a sudden col-lapse. A few months after I put my faith in Christ,God gave me strength in my left hand. ThenDavid Hathaway came to Chita and we hadan evangelistic meeting in Victory Square. I wasasked to be an usher! I was worried, how couldI stand for so long?! My legs were weak, myknees could give way and I would fall. But –

God touched me! When, at the end of the serv-ice, everyone began to dance and rejoice, Idid too! – After standing in the heat of the dayfor two hours, suddenly I began to jump! I washealed, my soul was healed, I had strength inmy legs! And still today I’m dancing. Praise theLord! He healed me! I was registered disabled;twice a year I had to go to the hospital andtake very powerful medication. The doctorsdidn’t believe I was healed. They said: “Who isGod, what can He heal? Now we will check!”Several doctors examined me and confirmedthe miracle. And they took me off their register!Glory to God!

Irina I’m so happy that I’m alive, healthy, achild of God, my life belongs to the Lord!15 years ago I could have died. I hadbeen very sick since 1987. I was regis-tered disabled. I went from one doctor toanother, from one hospital to another. Iwas examined by professors, doctors,physicians. Nothing helped. My legsrefused to work, I often blacked out. I wasjust a body, not human anymore! In 1987

I was referred to Moscow so that theycould diagnose what was wrong and getme back on my feet. I was examined inthe medical research institutes. It didn’thelp. And when I was on my last appoint-ment with the leading medical professor,he looked at me: “What can I say? Onceyou were happy and healthy. Now youhave to suffer. Because Christ also suf-fered.” I replied in shock: “But Christ knewwhy He had to suffer! He volunteered tosacrifice Himself!”

I left the room in despair. When we flewback to Chita, my life was over. I didn’tsee any prospect, any hope. I was alonewith my grief, my tragedy. My marriagebroke up, my friends left me, forgot allabout me. The only person who support-ed me all those years, helped me, criedwith me – was my mum... I couldn’t walkon my own, I was holding on to the walls.My mum used to bring me by taxi frommy home to hers. One time we took ataxi, and in the front seat were someposters. They were in a heap, but I saw apicture of a person. He was so full of joy,so happy, so full of life. It was DavidHathaway! These posters were an invita-tion to evangelistic meetings in the stadi-um, August 1995! I asked for a poster. Thedriver was a believer. It was not by acci-dent! People rejected me, doctors gaveup on me. But God had not given up!When it came to August 14, my son andmy mother brought me to the stadium bytaxi. There were so many people. Therewere songs that I immediately liked. Itwas a fateful day in my life. I met Christ. Irepented, gave my heart to Jesus! At theend of the service they prayed for heal-ing. There were many people. I was likethat woman in the Bible, I knew that Iabsolutely had to get through the crowd

to get prayed for. I just believed that theLord would help me. Believers and mem-bers of the team helped me through thecrowd, and David prayed for me. I knowthat it was the prayer of the Lord, aprayer in the power of the Holy Spirit, aprayer in faith and in love. Instantly I feltlife and joy flood my heart, and my bodywas filled with strength. It was unbeliev-able! I was so happy! They checked me. Icould walk by myself, without support! Iwent up and down the stadium.Something had happened, amazing, life-changing, because Jesus came, hallelu-jah! I left the stadium, walking, on myown! I caught a trolleybus and saw all thehappy faces. People were smiling, sayinghow good the service was. My heart wasfull of joy and excitement. I had strengthin my body. I was healed!

The sickness did try to come back andsteal my faith. But I realised now I haveGod! I prayed as I best I could, like anewborn baby. They told me: ‘Read thePsalms. Even if you don’t understand – stillread! Proclaim the Word of God in yourlife!’ And I did! But the most importantthing that I had – was faith! I believed,and I believe there is a God who helps,who saves, who heals, who gives life. Lifein abundance, happy life, free life. Ibelieved. I thank my pastor, my spiritualfather, Pastor Andrei. You took me in yourhands in this spiritual birth. You cared forme as your child. And today I standbefore you all, a living testimony of God’slove, of His glory on this earth, of His faith-fulness to His people [Irina is Jewish]. I ama living testimony of God’s faithfulness toHis Word. Praise be to God our Creator!Praise be to our Lord Jesus! Hallelujah!

It was in Siberia, in Chita 1993 that Godspoke to David and gave him a strategyto win Russia for Christ. Communism inRussia had only just finally collapsed.Chita itself had been a closed city,

David and his team were the first British toenter!

In 1994 for 63 days we battled the impos-sible and lived by miracles every day! Wevisited 17 cities, held 55 meetings, plant-ed new churches, travelled 30,000 km onscheduled and chartered flights and,despite rampant inflation with costs goingup overnight as we slept, we paid all thebills! It was estimated that 50,000 repent-ed, the spirit of conviction so strong, thatpractically everybody, including manyRussian Jews, streamed forward toreceive Christ, many weeping! Standingat David’s side with the interpreter, I per-sonally recorded over 1000 amazing mir-

acles of healing. This was only the begin-ning.

But as David foresaw 25 years ago, thewindow of opportunity to evangeliseRussia has closed. Nevertheless, in Maylast year, David went back to the mission-ary church in Chita, where they gavethanks for the real revival his ministrybrought to the whole of Siberia, a revivalthat has not gone out. The powerful mira-cles that happened then have neverbeen forgotten, nor have they stopped.

I want to deal with the fact that the worldis in crisis, and with what the Bible says. Atmy age, I can look back on so much thatGod has done! As a young pastor, oneday when I had finished preaching, Godsaid to me, “David, shut up, I’m tired of lis-tening to you. Go out and do everythingthat you preach about! Only talk about itwhen you have done it! Then you can tellpeople how it works!” Now I want to passsomething of that on to you. I have seenthe power of God, I’ve seen the miracles.I only talk about the future in the light ofwhat God HAS already done.

From my youth, God called me to Europe(including Russia and Israel), He hasalways given me the guide posts, and Hehas always revealed in advance what ishappening. I knew prophetically, from

the Bible, before I went to Russia, thatGod says the last great revival begins inRussia. I saw in Deuteronomy 4:32 that thegreatest miracle that had ever hap-pened on the face of the earth waswhen God delivered the Israelites – awhole nation – out of Egypt! But Jeremiahsaid (Jer 16:14), there’s going to come aday when there will be a greater miracle,in the land of the north (Russia), so greatthat the whole of Israel will forget comingout of Egypt, and only remember theescape from the land of the north! Thishas driven me. What I have seen in mylifetime is the beginning of the mostincredible miracles all over Russia. I didnot just go in after the freedom came –I’ve been working in Russia for 53 years – Iwas imprisoned 42 years ago by thecommunists! I’ve been working in Israel

for 53 years. Every time God was puttingsomething in my spirit, He was telling mewhat to do, and I didn’t know why. Nowwhen I look back I can see the timing, Ican see why I went to Israel, why I wentto Russia, why I was imprisoned, why I canwork in Israel now. With my notoriety inRussia – the KGB know more about methan I know myself – how is it I still have a12 month multiple entry visa with freedomto preach in every city? You see, God hasa purpose and a plan!

The world is in crisis, the church also.Romans 1:3-4 burns into my soul: ‘God’sSon, Jesus Christ, made of the seed ofDavid according to the flesh – butdeclared to be the Son of God withpower’! This is what touches me – adeclaration of power! I must admit I likedriving fast cars, and for my 80th birth-day my family paid for me to drive anAston Martin round a race track! Ienjoyed that feeling of power! Peopleare looking for power, for authority. AsChristians in the church, we should belooking for power. I have power andauthority – but this is missing in somesections of the church – the realisationthat we are the ambassadors of God,His representatives, on earth! As suchwe have authority. In my life it is amaz-ing how I have seen that authority workagainst the devil.

Twenty years ago I took 400 people toevangelise in Siberia for 3 months. It wasan incredible step of faith – we didn’thave the money – but all those yearsago the budget was £2 million! Iappointed a former naval officer tosupervise the logistics. Half way thoughhe came to me and said, “David, Ineed a clear understanding of wherethe money is, so that I can plan thebudget and I can spend it.” I said, “I’msorry, it only comes as God sends it, wedon’t have any money!” – He couldn’tcope! He was used to working withbudgets of millions, but we were to gosimply by faith! Can you imagine, 400people in the far side of Siberia for 3

months with no money?! As the moneycame in we bought one way tickets,and the people asked me why one waytickets? I said, “Jesus told His disciples‘Go!’ – Go into all the world and preachthe Gospel. He never once said ‘Comeback!’” Well, the Lord who gave themoney for the tickets up there, alsogave the money for the return!

The next year in Siberia, we had shippedour sound system into St Petersburg, andfrom there it was to be flown toEkaterinburg to join us. The system wasenormous, for football stadiums! It wassecond hand, but my office had insuredit for $100,000 – it wasn’t worth that, butmy staff thought, if anything happenedto it, we would get enough money toreplace it! But the Russians, when theysaw it, demanded 100% tax! After along battle it was flown in toEkaterinburg, and there it was on thetarmac – but they refused to release itunless I paid $100,000! I didn’t have it!Our charter aircraft was waiting to beloaded. These are practical issues – weneeded a miracle! I said, “We can’t pay$100,000, can we send it back?” “No,you still pay $100,000 even if you send itback!” – Can we destroy it? – You stillmust pay!

There was no way out! I’m praying, fac-ing an obdurate customs official,absolutely adamant, “You’ve declaredthe value on the manifest and you pay$100,000!” One Russian who was withme whispered in my ear, “Tell them it’s

your own personal stereo!!” Well, I AMEurovision, so it IS mine! I said to the offi-cial, “But this is my own personal systemand on those grounds I don’t have topay tax! I’m allowed to bring in personalgoods.” Standing in front of me heabsolutely refused. It was a spiritual bat-tle, I had to win it, I was going for 3months to Siberia, I needed the soundsystem! I faced that man and I calledon the Holy Spirit to change his mind! Itook authority against this wrong spirit,and in Jesus’ Name I commanded thatman give me the equipment. I was look-ing straight into his eyes and I saw thechange come over him. He just lookedat me and said, “Alright, give me $10!”The equipment was piled up on a truckoutside – enormous speakers weighinga quarter of a ton! I told my guys, jumpon that truck and get it loaded on ourplane before he changes his mind!

You see, we have authority. When I seebig miracles of healing, they do notcome so much from a ‘healing ministry’,as from authority – taking authorityagainst the devil, binding those evil spir-its by the authority we have in Jesus’Name. We must use that authority in ourlives; we need this boldness.

about the first coming of Christ – His birth,His death, His resurrection; and more than200 about His return! When Jesus washere, He was always saying ‘...in order tofulfil the Word spoken by the prophets’.Even when He was healing the sick, Hesaid ‘...in order to fulfil the prophecy ofIsaiah’. Everything about the life of Jesuswas prophetic. And still is prophetic.

What God has revealed to me, time andagain is usually fulfilled in my lifetime. Ilook back and see what God has done!After working for 30 years in EasternEurope, God revealed to me that the IronCurtain would break. People didn’tbelieve me. But God told me to set up anEast/West Conference in West Germanyto bring the Fire of God into the Eastbehind the Iron Curtain, and to invitepeople from all over Europe to come.That first year, 1988, 4000 came, 600 ofthem by a miracle through the IronCurtain! God told me to tell the peoplethat He would break the Curtain by theFire of the Holy Spirit, and He told me tocall the people back for a second con-ference the next year. Two weeks afterthe end of that second conference, theIron Curtain opened! The result was, I wasready to go into the East and evangelisewith miracles. God showed all this to meso clearly!

God called me to continue the confer-ences in 1991 and 92. I had held evan-gelism in Ukraine in 1991 and 92, butUkraine and Russia were still not free.Praying before the start of the last confer-ence, God gave me a vision in which Isaw Russia going over the edge of aprecipice. I spoke on it in the openingand in the closing meeting. Within 24hours there was a putsch againstGorbachev, and Russia opened!

By 1993 I was evangelising in Siberia. Thepastor told me, “Since we moved ourservices into the City Culture Palace wehave no ‘freedom’. There’s a terrible spiritwe can’t overcome, the worship doesn’twork, the preaching doesn’t work.” Themeeting started, but I stayed behind thestage praying. There in the corner I saw abust of Lenin. Suddenly I saw a green lightin its eyes and it began to talk to me, “I

am the spirit control-ling Russia. I was inLenin and in Stalin.They think I’ve beendestroyed, but I amthe same spirit.” It waschallenging me. Otherscame up at that point,saw the fire in its eyes, butI was the only one whoheard the voice. In thatmoment I used the authority Ihave to bind that spirit. Theamazing thing is, that in binding thatspirit, God has given me an unparalleledfreedom in Russia down through all theselast 20 years! We HAVE power andauthority!

God revealed to me the power that spirithad, and where it came from (GenghisKhan and his conquests from Mongolia toRussia, to China, to Israel, to Europe). ButHe also revealed to me about theEuropean Union, that it is the Last Empiredescribed in the image thatNebuchadnezzar saw in Daniel 2. Fromthe head of gold to the legs of iron (theRoman Empire), all those empires hadbeen fulfilled by the time of Christ. Butthen there is the revived Roman Empire,the Last Empire before the Return ofChrist, the feet of iron and clay. It’s frac-tured, iron doesn’t mix with clay. TheEuropean Union IS that last empire! Godshowed me the spirit that is in Europe: theEuropean Parliament Building inStrasbourg is modelled on Brueghel’spainting of the Tower of Babel (Babylon)!They produced a poster of the Tower ofBabel with the slogan, ‘Many tongues,one voice’, because, they told me,“We’re finishing the job we began 3000years ago!” The spirit is REBELLIONAGAINST GOD!

Why did God reveal to me the spirit con-trolling Russia, and the spirit controllingEurope? Because I need to take authorityagainst them. The spirit in Europe comesthrough Germany, because the GermanKaiser Wilhelm II (the favourite grandsonof Queen Victoria), had the original IshtarGate of Babylon and the ProcessionalWay brought to Berlin! And in the samemuseum is the ‘Seat of Satan’ –

Revelation 2:13. It was the altar of theTemple in Pergamon dedicated tohuman sacrifice and the worship of theEmperors! Kaiser Wilhelm celebrated itserection in 1902 with an extravagant festi-val to the pagan gods! When Hitler, asKaiser (Emperor), announced the ‘FinalSolution’, the annihilation of the Jews, hedid it from a massive replica of Satan’sSeat that he had built in Nuremberg forhis great rallies!

God reveals these things so we canunderstand. Shortly after the 1904 WelshRevival, the real Pentecostal outpouringof the Holy Spirit fell in Azusa Street (USA)and Monkweirmouth (Britain) in 1907-08 –and spread right across Europe and intoRussia. But the leaders of the EvangelicalAlliance in Germany met and declaredthat everything to do with the Holy Spirit –tongues, healing – was from the devil! Thisis known as the 1909 Berlin Erklärung(Declaration). My father used to tell meas a boy when I asked him about sin,“There is only one unforgivable sin. Jesussaid, ‘All manner of sin, all sin against Me,can be forgiven’, (hence He could sayon the Cross, “Father, forgive them”), butHe said, ‘the one sin that cannot be for-given is blasphemy against the HolySpirit!’” (Matt 12:31-32.) Blasphemyagainst the Holy Spirit is attributing theworks of the Holy Spirit to the devil, or theworks of the devil to the Holy Spirit. Whatthe German Church did in Berlin in 1909was blasphemy. As a result, when the FirstWorld War broke out in 1914, the GermanChurches supported it. And in theSecond World War, the Churches support-ed Hitler. Because of this demonic spirit.

We willhave to take over the whole world – canyou imagine – who on earth todaycould solve all the economic problems,the problems with Boko Haram inNigeria, war in Sudan, in Syria, Egypt, allthese terror spots, who is going to feedthe hungry, who is going to bring whatthe Bible says is 1000 years of peacewhen the sword shall be beaten intoploughshares, the lion will lie down withthe lamb – 1000 years of Eden onearth?! Dead or alive, we who believe inHim, we’re all going to be raised, we willmeet Him in the air, come back with Him– there will be a judgement, we willreceive our reward... What did Jesussay? To those to whom He gave talentsHe said, “I will make you rulers over 10cities, 5 cities...” We will run the worldwith Christ! With His power and authority,we’ll solve the problems, and for 1000years the earth becomes as it wasbefore the fall of man! I’m not con-cerned about Heaven, but about thehere and the now! I want to stir you intoaction! Wake up! Prophecy is being ful-

filled every time you get out of bed;every time you go to sleep, moreprophecy; you see it in your newspa-pers, you see it in your Bible; God is mov-ing! We’re getting closer and closer tothe Return of Christ to the earth!!

I was 7 years old when World War II start-ed. Seven times when Britain was facingan insuperable crisis, the King called thenation to prayer – the whole nationprayed – and God changed the courseof history. The miracle of Dunkirk in May1940, when the whole of our army wasstranded – France and Belgium hadcapitulated – and the Germans hadencircled our troops in the Pas de Calais.No escape. The nation went to prayerand God sent a great calm on theEnglish Channel, and every little boat setout and 338,000 were rescued, only 5000lost! Then Summer 1940, the battle of theair, the Battle of Britain – my bed-room window overlooked CroydonAirport – all our Spitfires weredestroyed, only a handful left, wecouldn’t hold out against theLuftwaffe for more than 2 days.The nation went to prayer, Hitlermade one of his strategic mistakes

and turned his air force in a differentdirection! God spared Britain. Why?Because the nation prayed. If only werealised the power that we’ve got!Christian believers, we have to pray as anation again – God will answer! God is aprayer-answering God! History demon-strates it! The battle of El-Alamein 1942,the Germans were sweeping rightthrough North Africa – we had twogodly Bible-believing generals and thenation prayed – God worked a miracle,the tide of the War turned. Until that dayChurchill said, we had never won a bat-tle, after that day we never lost a battle.

God is calling us, stirring us, challengingus. Last year, same-sex marriage, waslegalised in Britain. Why did God destroySodom and Gomorrah? You know why.

I first started working in Israel in 1961, butin those days the only converts we saw,(the nation of Israel at that time was only13 years old), were Arabs. It was so verydifficult to see Jews converted. But theBible is very clear. It says the Gospel willbe preached to the Gentiles until theending of the times of the Gentiles, thenIsrael will be saved (Romans 11:25-26). I have seen the change in Israel! Itcame with the Russian Jews, convertedin Russia, moving to Israel – everyonewill tell you that the biggest move inIsrael is amongst the Russian Jews! Theyhave the biggest number of messianiccongregations. They invited me to evan-gelise – it’s because of the Russian Jewsthat I have freedom in Israel! I’ve hadthousands of unbelieving Russian Jews inthe meetings and led them to theirMessiah! People ask how can you? Butthe Holy Spirit CAN and HAS and DOES!God revealed the Gospel will bepreached to the Gentiles until the end-ing of the times of the Gentiles. Thewhole question is, are we at the endingof the times of the Gentiles? Israel isopening! We are holding the largestgatherings of unbelievers listening to the

Gospel since Jesus preached to them intheir thousands. From that time till this, ithas never been possible. Until now! Yet itis actually happening!

The argument in Israel is about thePeace Process. Do they give land forpeace, go back to pre-1967 bound-aries? The pressure is building. But Israel isthe fig tree that Jesus refers to, the sym-bol of the end of the age, when it putsforth its leaves (Matt 24:32). I was inJerusalem when the Six Day War brokeout in 67 – I know what the situation waslike before – you cannot give up land forpeace! It’s against Scripture – woe tothose who divide up My Land!

When we look at the world today, theworld is in trouble! Wherever you look.Syria – 2 years ago President Assad said,‘If you depose me, if you overthrow me,you will bring a far worse dictator thanme!’ The whole Middle East will explodein conflict – Hamas, the PLO, theIranians, extreme Islam! One of thegreatest mistakes America ever madewas to support the rebellion in Libya;today it is in absolute chaos. Look atIraq. At the time of that war, I prophe-sied from Revelation 9:13-15: ‘I heard thevoice...saying to the sixth angel, ‘Loosethe four angels which are bound in thegreat river Euphrates.’ And the fourangels were loosed, which were pre-

But why do so many thousands come tolisten to me preach the Gospel?Because I love people. I love sinners. Iwas a year in a communist prison withdrug smugglers, criminals; the murdererbecame my best friend – without him Iwould have been in difficulty. They lis-tened to the Gospel and I learned tolove them. I saw them as somebody’sbrother, son, husband, who had made amistake – I saw them as men for whomChrist died, to deliver them from thatcurse, that sin. It changed my whole atti-tude – God loves the sinner enough tosend His Son to save them. Jesus spokeabout the shepherd who had 99 sheepin the church, and for the sake of onlyone outside, he leaves the 99 and goesout to rescue one! That’s our job, to res-cue the sinner! Why did same-sex mar-

riage get voted through so quickly? Itwas a vote-catcher! But they’re a tinyminority. Where is the Church? Whichparliament passes laws to protect you,to get your vote? All the time we aresilent and sit down in our pews anddance and sing, the world will ignore us!

Forty years ago when I came out of thecommunist prison, for 2 years I travelledthe world because everyone wanted toknow the story why Prime Minister HaroldWilson came to rescue me. But before Ileft the prison, they pleaded with me,“David, you are the only one who knowswhat’s happening here, help us!” Soafter 2 years I set up a massive organisa-tion to get Christian believers out ofprison. What I built up in 1975 and 76 ison record as being the largest Christian

demonstration ever held at that time;60,000 signatures on a petition, thebiggest cross-section of society everseen, all the important people, lords,ladies, actors and actresses (JoannaLumley), musicians (Yehudi Menuhin), Iwent to the most communist tradesunions and got the general secretary tosign! We held a great march anddemonstration in Hyde Park, we gavethe petition to the Soviet Embassy andusing the Helsinki Accord – freedom ofreligion, freedom of speech, freedomfrom fear (which Russia had just signed),we changed history and got freedomfor believers in Soviet Russia!

Recently a Czech historian from PragueUniversity visited me in England. He’s beenresearching my case and he was aston-ished at the size of the file on me inLondon. At the very time that Britain andAmerica were negotiating religious free-dom with the Soviet bloc (what was tobecome the Helsinki Accords), I was in theCzech prison. The historian was amazedto see the inactivity, the indifference overmy case – Russia, Britain and Americaarguing over human rights – whilst there Iwas, in prison only because I was aChristian and took Bibles into Russia!

Because the result ofthat war was not ‘democracy’ in theMiddle East, not an Arab Spring, butextreme Islam, terrorism unleashed.Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Egypt, Syria –are only the beginning of the evil

released with thosefour angels! It isfeared that now 600of our British nationalsare being trained inSyria to bring terrorismback to the UK. But theBible does warn, anddoes predict, and doesshow the future!

The world is in crisis, but I don’twant to speak despair. BecausePaul says in Romans 1:16, ‘I’m notashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for itis the power of God to salvation to allwho will believe!’ We have the power ofGod ready to be outpoured now! Thepower of God is stronger than the powerof the devil! When God wins the battle,the devil will be defeated. Islam, secu-larism, will be defeated. The EuropeanUnion – can and will be broken… How?The Bible tells us who breaks it. It’s notTony Blair, nor any politician or worldleader. It’s Christ at His Return! He breaksit (Daniel 2:44-45), and sets up HisKingdom on earth!

Wake up, speak up, pray up! Until the worldknows we’re here! The first timethose unbelieving Russian Jews in Israel cameto hear me, they said, “Yes, we will come tohear David talk about Yeshua, on one condi-tion: if your Jesus is our Messiah, then He mustwork miracles and heal us.” They brought thesick – all these people are my age and older –and God worked so many miracles! I askedthem, “Did God do what you wanted?” Theysaid, “More than we could ask!” A former KGBColonel who heads up one of these RussianHolocaust Survivor Organisations said, “All mypeople must hear the words of this preacher!”You see, our Jesus is Israel’s Deliverer! That’swhy they come! Because there is power in theGospel! God works miracles!

We’ve got to stand up and be counted! We’vegot to learn how to pray, we’ve got to know thepower of God! We’ve got to know our authority,who our Jesus is! The most militant Moslemgroup in Britain is situated in the town where Ilive and we have our office. The local Anglicancurate was travelling in my car and he said,“David, I have found in Dewsbury that if youstand up for what you believe in, the Moslemswill listen to you! But they have no respect foryou unless you stand up for your faith.” TheMoslems in Dewsbury invite this curate to speakon their local radio, he’s allowed to argue hisChristian faith and they encourage him todebate and put the Christian viewpoint andshow them where he thinks they are wrong –because they respect a man who has thecourage to speak what he believes!

Why do you think the Russians have a respectfor me and renew my multiple entry visa everyyear? A lot of communists in the revolutionarydays fell out of favour and were put in prison –and they respect me because I was preparedto go to prison for my faith. They respect mealso, because after my imprisonment I didn’tgive up, I went back and carried on the work.The devil will respect you when you stand upagainst him! Church, rise up! Be counted! Butdon’t be known for what you oppose. Let theworld know you for what you are, what youhave! The Bible says there will come a daywhen the unbeliever will want what you’vegot! If I listen to some Christians, I wouldn’t wantwhat they have!!! The world will want whatyou’ve got when you demonstrate the loveand the power of the God you serve!

When I was before the Czechoslovak court,they were afraid of the Bible and its contents!

We’ve got tostand up for thetruth of the Wordof God! Thebiggest miracles Isee are amongst theunbelievers. Who didJesus heal? The sinner.What was the effect? Theyrecognised the authority thatHe had, the power of His Word.What moves me is the testimony of mir-acles down through the years that have lastedand changed lives. Six years ago a youngwoman came to our evangelism in Tallinn, andshe prayed because she had a cough. Nextday she went to the bathroom to clean herteeth and coughed up two handfuls of tumour!She posted this story in May this year on ourRussian Facebook site. It’s reality! We’ve got todemonstrate the reality of our faith! Moslems,before they kill you, say Allahu Akbar, Allah isgreat. But my God is greater! There is only oneprayer-answering God. Look at Elijah. Hemocked the prophets of Baal, because heknew their god could not answer them. But ourGod answers by fire! Like Elijah, you’ve got tocall upon Him, you’ve got to believe Him! I’vebeen healed of cancer twice, of osteoarthritis,many other things – I go to the Word of God, Ibelieve the Word of God, I take the promises ofGod, I stand on them – AND GOD DOES WHATHE SAYS! (Numbers 23:19.) God is a God of HisWord, a God of action! I know what He says,and I know He’ll do it!

The world is in turmoil until we, as Christians,show the truth of the Word of redemptionthrough Christ, and demonstrate it in our ownlives! Let your life be a witness. Pray until youget the answers, see the miracles. I can’t livewithout the miraculous – I need a miracle everyday! Just to get out of bed, to do the job I do!

I want to leave you with two things. Firstly we’vegot to learn to live by faith – that is the mark ofthe believer! The just shall live by faith. Withoutfaith it’s impossible to please God. Let’s live byfaith. And secondly, forgiveness. I read a secu-lar report which said that the greatest messagethe Church could offer is forgiveness. It’s true.“Father, forgive them, for they know not whatthey do!” The biggest lesson from the Cross isforgiveness!

As long as God gives me breath and life andstrength I will never retire, never stop. I want tolive to see the Kingdom of God on earth andIsrael converted! Christians, be united in Christ,stand up and be counted, for we are salt andlight to the world. Salt is a preservative thatcures and heals. Light is for a dark place. Don’tlet it be said we have lost our salt and our light.

God spoke to me in the 1980s and toldme the Iron Curtain dividing Europe intwo would open. Nobody believed it.But I held the great prophetic East/WestConferences in West Germany in 1988and 89 – the Iron Curtain opened –that’s how my ministry went into Russiaso fast. We’ve evangelised Russia fromone side to the other so strongly, visit-ing over 200 towns and cities from eastto west, reaching 80% of Russians withthe live TV crusades and the call torepentance on their own state nationalTV. God had spoken, I believed it, andGod did it! But God warned me fromthe beginning, the Iron Curtain wouldnot remain open. For 25 years peoplehave said, the Iron Curtain has gone, itcan never come back. But just look atthe news today! All the countries I havebeen evangelising in these 25 yearsare under threat. Almost every one of

those towns in East Ukraine where youhave seen an uprising, people killed –I’ve been there to evangelise! I say,thank You Lord, You sent me there! I’vepreached the Gospel, I’ve called thepeople to repent. Whatever happensthere, they had a chance! I went infaith!

A lot of people are asking me aboutthe relationship between Russia,Ukraine and Europe. Who is right andwho is wrong? I have been working inRussia for more than 50 years, and I doknow that the current situation is dis-torted by the media, both in Russiaand in the West. I have an interest onboth sides, because I understandRussia’s long history. At one time Kiev(now in Ukraine) was the capital ofRussia, not Moscow! And there was along time in Ukraine history when it wasdivided in two parts – part underRussia, part under Poland. So this is anhistoric problem. And I understand whyRussian President Putin for instance sup-ports Assad in Syria; get rid of Assad,and you will have something worse.And I respect Russia especially regard-ing traditional marriage; Russia isstronger on some Bible standards thanwe are in the West!

Regarding the present crisis in Ukraine,the EU gave an undertaking to Russiathat they would not bring NATO rightup to Russian borders. But they have. InGeorgia for instance. Then in the 2012Munich Security Council attended byNATO, the EU and Russia, where themain topic was what to do with Syria,Russia was greatly concerned by theplans NATO presented to extend itsdefence shield (ie missiles and militarybases) into the Baltic States andFinland, right up to the Russian borders!

Some years ago I was taken to KievRailway Station in Moscow – and I sawfor myself that in 2002 they hadrenamed the Kiev station square,Europe Square, ‘as a token of strongerfriendship’ with Europe; Brussels haddonated a massive abstract sculptureof the European symbol, the bull,Europa, the ‘woman on the beast’(Rev 17)! Featured also in the Squarewas a circle of European flags set outto look like the other EU symbol, theTower of Babel! In the last 10 years orso, Russia was becoming in effect, sym-pathetic to the EU!! One of the original

policies of the EU was to create a politi-cal empire from the Atlantic to theUrals (where Europe and Asia divide inRussia). This was the vision of Charlesde Gaulle back in the 1960s, and apainting of this vision hung in the WestGerman Parliament in Bonn until theymoved back to Berlin. Only last year inAstana, the political capital ofKazakhstan, British Prime Minister DavidCameron made a speech advocatingthe EU ‘beyond the Baltics’ ie, inRussian territory and former Russiansatellite states! This was and is the ulti-mate aim of the EU. Under the presentcircumstances, Moscow is now thinkingof re-naming ‘Europe Square’!

Because of Russia’s precipitous annex-ation of Crimea this year and the trou-bles in East Ukraine, and the Westernresponse of financial and other sanc-tions, both Russians and Ukrainianswrite to me and say, ‘With your knowl-edge of Russia and what you have saidabout the European Union, surely youcannot support this European Union?!’

There is no question that Putin has latelysought to pull back from the EuropeanUnion and to build a greater Russia.Now the link with China, which will buyRussia’s oil and gas, is part of a newexpansion into Asia. So now, not for thefirst time in history, Ukraine is in the mid-dle, but looking West and seeking inde-pendence from Russian control; theycannot forget Stalin and the enforcedfamine in the 1930s when more than amillion Ukrainians died of starvation.

I don’t, on the other hand, support theEU. From a Biblical perspective the EU isdemonic. The image thatNebuchadnezzar saw in a dream, wastranslated by Daniel as successiveworld empires, from the head of goldto the feet made of iron and clay.Today we are looking at the lastempire, the feet of iron and clay; Ibelieve this is the European Union (seemy documentary, ‘The Rape ofEurope’). We are living in the end of aprophetic age. What is happeningtoday is modern fulfilment of prophe-cy. On the one side you have theEuropean Union, mentioned in Bibleprophecy, on the other side you havea resurgence of the Russian Empire.Should Russia really become part ofthe EU? And what is written in Ezekiel 38and 39?

The tragedy is that now Ukraine has becometorn in a dispute between two sides. It beganlast year when then Ukraine PresidentYanukovych pulled away from the EU to forman alliance with Russia. Inevitably peoplewere going to be on both sides of the divide.Eastern Ukraine has always been moreRussian, but West Ukraine was part of Polandand more European in sympathy. Crimea his-torically was always Russia’s naval base; itwas ‘given’ to Ukraine in the days of theSoviet Union, when no one could imaginethat would ever be a problem! In Crimea wesaw very strong leadership from Putin. But theEU has no strong leadership or authority – it’sa bureaucratic nightmare! You can say theargument is between ‘democracy’ and ‘dic-tatorship’, but I am concerned that what ishappening in Ukraine is lawlessness. Whathappened earlier this year in Maidan Squarein Kiev was lawlessness, what is happening inEast Ukraine is lawlessness – no clear govern-ment, control is in the hands of ‘bully boys’,people who have no love for either side.

It comes down to a spiritual issue. After 50years of working in Russia, I love Russia; in theearly years of working in Ukraine, it was thenpart of Russia! Forty years ago when I wasarrested and put in prison, I was smugglingRussian Bibles through Uzhgorod (Ukraine)into Russia! Ukraine gained its independencefrom Russia only in 1991. The situation now isextremely complex. I have been invited togo there and I would love to, in order topreach the Gospel Message of peace, rec-onciliation and forgiveness!

We just cannot simply allow the past to dividetoday. There has to be forgiveness and rec-onciliation. In South Africa after the bitteryears and the atrocities of apartheid,Archbishop Desmond Tutu set up theCommission of Reconciliation. We had a simi-lar situation in Ireland, a peace between twosides – Northern Ireland which is part of Britain,and the southern part which is independent –

but still there is tension and fighting. One ofthe leaders of the parliament in NorthernIreland has recently been questioned onsome of the worst murders in the past.

In Ukraine right now there is a desperateneed for the Gospel of Jesus Christ to bepreached with clarity, with power, withauthority. I am respected by both sides,Russian and Ukrainian. But from the Biblicalperspective we are clearly moving into thelast days. The Bible says that before Christreturns there will be wars and rumours ofwars. What we are seeing in so many parts ofthe world – Syria, Nigeria, Sudan, NorthernIreland, Israel, the Middle East – is what wasprophesied in the Bible. And this is my mainpoint: there cannot be peace, total peace inthis world until Christ returns. He is the Princeof Peace. The same spirit driving the tensionin Israel, is driving the tension in Ukraine – ademonic spirit that doesn’t want peace. It is asign of the times.

We need to pray for the soon return of Christ.People are afraid, they don’t know what todo. I have many friends in East Ukraine. I wasevangelising in some of the most troubledcities only 2 years ago; there was a tremen-dous response to the Gospel appeal, out-standing miracles of healing. The tragedynow is that the Russian element and theUkrainian element within the churches aredivided. The only solution is prayer. We haveto pray one for another. There is a demonicspirit that is dividing even Christians and wemust come against it. Remember, the lastprayer of Jesus before He left His discipleswas to pray for unity amongst believers. Theimportance of the Gospel I preach is unity!Unity in Christ. There is division in Ukrainebecause of politics, and there is divisionthroughout the world because of Biblical,spiritual, political issues. But we’ve got to beprepared for Christ’s Return! We must haveunity. We must love one another, worktogether for the common cause of theGospel. There is a challenge to us not to getinvolved in political things; Christians have tobe above politics. Politics will divideChristians; the Gospel will unite us. That’s whythrough all the years of the Cold Warbetween the West and Russia, I lovedRussians. That’s why I was prepared to go toprison, and afterwards to go back, still in theCold War days, to continue to break downthese barriers with the preaching of theGospel.

Remember, we are not children of this world,our Kingdom is in Heaven, together withJesus Christ!
