Helicopter Stories
A creative and holistic approach to learning
for EYFS and Key Stage 1
About Helicopter Stories: The Helicopter Stories approach, pioneered
by Vivian Gussin Paley and championed in the UK by theatre and education charity Make Believe Arts, harnesses the power of
storytelling to inspire powerful learning outcomes in key curriculum areas, such as
Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development and early compositional skills in Writing. As a
Make Believe Arts Centre of Excellence, we’re pleased to offer training sessions for
this child centred approach. Helicopter Stories facilitates
significant, measurable progress for all children, whatever their starting point.
About our school: Bognor Regis
Nursery School has been using the
Helicopter Story approach since being
inspired at an INSET day run by Make
Believe Arts in 2010. Helicopter Stories
are used across the Nursery School and
the team are passionate about the
benefits it brings in supporting all
children’s learning and development. This
child centred approach compliments the
schools own philosophy and its
aspirations to enable all children to fly.
Bognor Regis Nursery School became a
Centre of Excellence in 2018.
