NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (NICU) RENOVATIONUNIVERSITY HEALTH SYSTEM | SAN ANTONIO

PHYSICAL THERAPY OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY CLINICUNIVERSITY HEALTH SYSTEM | SAN ANTONIO

COST: $1.2M SIZE: 4,400 SFSERVICES: Architecture, Interior Design, Cost Estimation

COST: $1.8M SIZE: 10,000 SFSERVICES: Architecture, Interior Design, Cost Estimation, Construction Documents, Construction Administration

The NICU is a renovation of the main hospital building 5th floor existing space which includes an additional area increase for a total of 4,400 SF. The renovation program includes 10 warmers (2 per the pinwheel design), 1 private patient room, 1 family room, and 1 formula preparation room. Coordination meetings were conducted with user groups to finalize the design and discuss the phasing while adjacent spaces remain functional. Design features include glass modular walls, special indirect lighting, special use of acoustic plasters and flooring to maintain a quiet and warm calming setting.

The design goal of this project is to provide a positive therapeutic environment to promote outcome based rehabilitation care and to return the patient to a full, pain free life with limited physical limitations. It is therefore important that the design for environment of care does not restrict the ability of staff and patient (and family) to achieve these goals.

Through the relocation of the outpatient services to the Medical Pavilion, UHS will enhance the Adult and Pediatric PT and OT programs and identify University Health System as a progressive and significant player in the San Antonio/Bexar County healthcare community.
