THE WISH LIST

Page 2: Westminster Neighborhood 2014 Wish List

Dear Friend:

Westminster Neighborhood Services, Inc. (WNS) is a 501(3)(c) nonprofit

organization serving at-risk children and families on the near Eastside of

Indianapolis through

• the provision of children’s programs that meet nurturing,

safety, educational, and developmental needs

• the provision of food and clothing to meet the basic needs

of neighborhood families

• the provision of supportive services

We believe that when families are supported and become self-sustaining then

they are able to turn outwards and transform their community.

Our donors and volunteers make it possible for Westminster to help those in

need with a hand-up rather than a handout.

We would like to share our “Wish List” with you. Our Wish List contains

equipment and supplies needed as well as underwriting opportunities.

Throughout the year please consider an alternative gift from the Wish List as an

honor gift for a special occasion or holiday or memorial gift for a loved one,

co-worker or friend.

Please share this catalogue with others and invite them to become a supporter

of Westminster. Your gift(s) will make in difference in the lives of the at-risk

children and families that Westminster serves.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

WNS Board of Directors

Demographics of the Westminster

community

Our core Principles

1. We serve families as a whole, focusing on the needs of all family members as a unit rather than as individuals. We recognize that individual family member’s needs cannot be effectively met in isolation. They must be met comprehensively. When families thrive, neighborhoods thrive.

2. We operate at a scale that allows us to effectively deliver services to families. Our approach to service-delivery allows us to work intimately with families. We build relationships with the families and children

we serve. These relationships allow us to understand their needs and support them in every way possible. We provide personalized, holistic services as families work towards sustainable self-sufficiency.

3. Woven through all our programs is a sense of community. Our open-door policy fosters community building among the families we serve. We build relational community with families in our neighborhood, helping people who are isolated geographically and relationally.

Double your impact. List your employer to see if they will match your original Westminster gift.

Programs

• A critical component to a healthy life is nutrition. From birth, the intake of vital nutrients is essential to the growth and development of a healthy individual. More than one out of five children live in a household with food insecurity, which means they do not always know where they will find their next meal.

• Westminster is a place for our neighbors to come and not only receive food, but have the support to get them to begin to breakdown the barriers that keep them in poverty.

• In 2013, 216 families where given Christmas Baskets.

• The gifts, food and special supplies the children and families receive can be the only gifts they will get during the holiday season.

Unfortunately there are many items needed for Pantry Services Distribution that WNS cannot purchase through the Food banks. Below is a chart of those items, the qualities needs and average prices.

Westminster can stretch your dollar(s). When WNS spends its dollars at Gleaner’s Food Bank it buy approximately 7 pounds of food. The average retail cost of a pound of food is $2.41. At retail the same 7 pounds of food would costs approximately $17.00. In other words $1=$17 in retail value. Also remember on items that can’t be purchased through the food bank—WNS can save the sales tax

which again enables WNS to receive more products. Products which Westminster can purchase through the food bank include: Cereal, canned fruits and vegetables, rice, pasta, pasta sauce, peanut butter, jelly, canned soups, diapers, chips and snacks. Please consider a cash gift to WNS for the purchase of items from the food bank.

“We received Christmas help last year and it was a blessing. My kids had a wonderful Christmas because of Westminster.”

Mandi WellsWNS Adult Education and Resource Center Manager and former Westminster student

“I would have to say thank you... for always being here. Always being a constant... coming here

knowing that there are tons of people

who care about you.”

“I did not go to school today.” - Billy told Westminster as he joined the other children in the dining room for snack time, wearing his pajamas.

Without breakfast and lunch at school and dinner at Westminster Neighborhood, children like Billy may be left hungry.[
