WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?

SurveyThe first media platform I used to get audience feedback from, once I had finished my final products, was ‘Survey Monkey’. With this I created an online survey, consisting of a few questions to be answered about my magazine advertisement. These questions were:

1. How effective do you think this Magazine Advertisement is, on a scale of 1 to 10?

2. What changes do you think could be made to improve it?

3. What genre of music do you think the advertisement is advertising?

4. What do and don’t you like about the advertisement?

By doing this I thought it would help me to improve on my advertisement in a way the targeted audience would appreciate.

In terms of Tessa Perkins ‘Stereotypes’ it would usually be a smart idea survey people who would be most likely to buy my album as their improvements given would help to reach out to the specific target audience that I might have. However I decided to ask a selection of anonymous people who will all have different tastes in music and genres of music.

Here are some of the results that I got:

Question 1From the first question on my audience feedback survey, I learned that although the majority of the people thought my magazine advertisement was a good 7/8. It was clear that there were improvements to be made, to make it look even better, And therefore would attract more of an audience if it were to be sold as a real product.

Question 2

These were some of the improvements that were given from the audience on how to improve my magazine advertisement. It was very important that I asked these questions because it would mean that if my products were to be sold, it would reach out to the audience as it was their comments.

Improvements I made to my advertisement

Before AfterAfter I made these changes to my magazine I did feel like it resulted in it looking more professional and effective. Therefore making it more likely to sell. It was the audience feedback that led me to these changes. This reinforces the importance of getting the feedback.

Question 3

These results showed me that I had done a good job with following conventions of the genre, as the majority if the audience knew the genre of music which the magazine advertisement was advertising. From this I learned that its important to do past research on existing products, before making your own, as it makes it easier when following conventions and gives you inspiration of things that the audience would like.

Question 4 and 5From the both of these questions I learned (especially in question 4) that following the conventions of existing products is very effective and improves the content of your own work. They are definitely something that the audience seem to pick up on and will recognise them straight away, which makes the products or products easily identifiable to them. However it’s also good if there is some originality within the work otherwise the audience may get bored of the repeating conventions. Especially in the genre of music which was my video and ancillary texts, because rock/ indie artist are usually seen as rebellious.

However.. There are problemsI have learned that there is a problem from creating a survey online that can be answered anomalously when trying to get audience feedback.

The main problem is the fact that people will be silly with their answers because they don’t see it to be a serious thing. These are some of the unserious answers I received:

It is clear that these answers were purposely given to be humorous and were not a true representation of what they thought.

However.. There are problems

Another problem I faced with doing an online survey was the lack of responses I got. This could be because people don’t see the E-Mail, or they cant be bothered so they end up deleting it.

Therefore it is important that I also use other methods in order to get a wider range of audience feedback.
