What is Orthodontics Orthodontics or Orthodontia, which came from the word "orthos" (to correct or to straighten out) and "dontia" (teeth) is the branch of dentistry that deals with the correction and treatment of one's bite and misaligned teeth. A misaligned tooth becomes a problem because if your teeth do not fit together correctly, they will be at a higher risk of being lost due to tooth decay and gum disease. Having a misaligned tooth doesn't just cause future oral diseases, but will also cause some aesthetic discrepancies to your teeth. Orthodontists are the person whom you need to consult your problem with. He/she will assess what kind of orthodontic dental procedure you need. Most of the orthodontic treatments available in your orthodontist's office include the usage of brackets that are glued to your teeth with a wire. I know for sure that most people don't like to get braces because it is not pleasing to the eye. There are numerous orthodontic treatments out there to choose from. The most common are the removable and non-removable.
