It was a fantastic conference, and wonderful to see so many Tangent members not only attending the AGM, but also helping. You can take the girl out of circle, but you can’t take circle out of the girl is one of my phrases. Through my address, I was able to explain what Tangent is all about and why Circlers should continue their friendships with us when they graduate from Ladies Circle. The chosen hashtag used was #strongertogether due to many Tangent members starting their life within Ladies Circle then transitioning over to Tangent, creating a strong bond between the two organisations. We have several new clubs affiliating and chartering at present and I had the pleasure of affiliating my first new Tangent, ‘Nightingale Tangle’ they are based in Derbyshire. Their name was chosen due to the area having links with Florence Nightingale. I would also like to congratulate Barry & The Vale Tangent based in Wales on not only affiliating but also agreeing to organise the Welsh Regional Lunch in 2020 and Ellesmere Port Tangent on their recent affiliation. On a sadder note we have seen some disaffiliations over the last couple of months, these have mainly been due to an aged membership and clubs’ situations changing. Growth of the organisation is incredibly important, and for those who know me well, know I am passionate about our association and will do all in my ability to help it grow, whether it be helping a Ladies Circle member transition to Tangent, to answering website enquiries from a potential new member. Our ‘Open’ Club Membership is also very important due to it creating new extensions of friendships you have already made through Ladies Circle or Tangent. There are many easy ways a club can advertise effectively, to attract new members, if you have a circle near make sure you invite them to your meetings and build relationships with them and if you need any ideas then please do not hesitate to contact me. New Membership Award for 2020 AGM

Issue 1. June 2019

What your Marketing & Membership

Officer Emma, has been up to so far…

It was an honour to have been elected as your new Membership & Marketing Officer at the

AGM in Torquay. The focus on membership and relationships between our four clubs has

gained pace quickly since taking up my new role. The relationship between fellow

Membership Officers, Stephanie Holzhueter (Ladies Circle), Glen Lyons (41 Club) and James

Locke (Round Table) has been formed after meeting at the RT & LC Conference held in

Leicester during May. It’s great to be #sidebyside.

I was asked by past Ladies Circle President, Jo Hudson and then Secretary, Vicky Parker at the

National Tangent AGM in Torquay to speak on behalf of Tangent at Ladies Circle’s AGM held

in Leicester as my first task since taking post. It was a fantastic conference, and wonderful to

see so many Tangent members not only attending the AGM, but also helping. You can take

the girl out of circle, but you can’t take circle out of the girl is one of my phrases.

Through my address, I was able to explain what Tangent is all about and why Circlers should

continue their friendships with us when they graduate from Ladies Circle. The chosen

hashtag used was #strongertogether due to many Tangent members starting their life within

Ladies Circle then transitioning over to Tangent, creating a strong bond between the two

organisations.

We have several new clubs affiliating and chartering at present and I had the pleasure of

affiliating my first new Tangent, ‘Nightingale Tangle’ they are based in Derbyshire. Their

name was chosen due to the area having links with Florence Nightingale. I would also like to

congratulate Barry & The Vale Tangent based in Wales on not only affiliating but also

agreeing to organise the Welsh Regional Lunch in 2020 and Ellesmere Port Tangent on their

recent affiliation. On a sadder note we have seen some disaffiliations over the last couple of

months, these have mainly been due to an aged membership and clubs’ situations changing.

Growth of the organisation is incredibly important, and for those who know me well, know I

am passionate about our association and will do all in my ability to help it grow, whether it

be helping a Ladies Circle member transition to Tangent, to answering website enquiries

from a potential new member.

Our ‘Open’ Club Membership is also very important due to it creating new extensions of

friendships you have already made through Ladies Circle or Tangent. There are many easy

ways a club can advertise effectively, to attract new members, if you have a circle near make

sure you invite them to your meetings and build relationships with them and if you need any

ideas then please do not hesitate to contact me. Also let me know your membership news, if

a new member joins you let me know so I can share your news.

Round Table & Ladies Circle

conference in Leicester May 2019

During the Ladies Circle Conference, not only

was I able to meet up with all my fellow 4 club

family membership officers, I also ran a fact-

finding competition that allowed circlers to

discover how much they knew about their

local Tangents, whether they even had one,

and who to contact if they were unsure.

I have already had several circler’s contact me

about setting up new Tangent Clubs or

wanting to join or contact their local Tangent

Club, which is gives me the hope that we really

are stronger together and as Ladies Circle say,

#getinvolved.

The winner of the Competition was Rebecca

from Loughborough Ladies Circle, who’s

Grandmother is a member of Loughborough

Tangent and mother is a prospective member

of Charnwood Tangent.

I asked And you sent them in…

Thank you to all the club members who follow the Tangent Facebook closed group and responded to the request. If you haven’t joined this group, do as it’s great to see what your fellow members have been doing and connect with friends old & new.

Photo’s required…

If you have any photo’s your clubs

are willing to share with us so we

can use them to advertise what

Tangent clubs are all about.

Please email them to us, nothing

says it better than our own

members doing what they do

best… the 3 F’s are still very much

a part of everything we do when

in Tangent.

Fun, Friendship & Fundraising.

Just a small selection…

The pictures you see on here are just a

very small selection from the over 200

we have received so far. But keep

them coming in.

New Membership award to be presented at the Cardiff AGM 2020

Membership

Award

NATC

?

I would like to present a new award at the 2020 AGM in

Cardiff to the club with the highest % membership growth,. All

clubs wishing to enter will need to complete the membership

competition entry which will be made available in February

2020. The award will be given to the club with the highest %

growth of members over the last year.

Does your club have a generic email

address? Generic email address setup: All clubs are being asked to set up a

generic email address for example this will be your

(name)[email protected] or (name)[email protected]

You can use any generic email address, Gmail, Yahoo etc. it’s whatever

your preference is. All clubs really need to have a generic account

rather than using a personal account, we have found that personal

accounts can cause many problems over the years, especially when

people change roles/leave etc. a suggestion is for up to 4 members of

the clubs to have access to the address, so someone can always see the

emails and know the login and password that are set up and see the

emails that are being received! The main person would be either the

Chairman or Secretary if you have them. Sharing responsibility has

made it much easier for clubs, those who have already done this have

already said they feel more connected to national and potential new

members.

If you need any help in doing this please do not hesitate to contact

either myself or Kate, website & Editor, instructions can also be found

on the tangent website

www.tangent-clubs.org

As soon as this is set up let us know so we can start getting the

correspondence to you straight away. By also having a generic account

and not a personal address we can add your club email to the club

finder on the national site as soon as we have the details, which means

potential members can find you and email you straight away. If you

choose to use a personal address all membership & club enquires will

be sent through to the national membership address and then have to

be redirected.

Email all club contact updates to Doreen, [email protected]

You can do this at any time of the year not just when the contact

update and capitation forms are sent. Keeping your details up to date

means all our members are better informed.

Don’t forget to invite me along if you are having a new

membership event or just to a normal club night or lunch as

I would like to try and visit as many of you as I can! Their is

no one better than our existing clubs and it’s members to

share ideas with new clubs.

Also email me a copy of your program as I get asked a lot for

program ideas and what better way than to share ideas. In

the next issue I will be focusing on how groups can adapt to

involve members of all ages and how different program

ideas and the way clubs are run can make sure your tangent

remains popular with all your members for the future.
