One person can’t do this alone. We must all work

together to make Jamestown a better place.

Growing Jamestown

Grants from the Fund for the Region to the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation has allowed JRC to engage, inspire and lead city residents and officials into making Jamestown more beautiful. According to Mary Maxwell, JRC neighborhood project associate, the Healthy Neighborhood initiative has created several programs designed to strengthen local neighborhoods by increasing owner confidence through collaborations, interactions and beautification, and to inspire others to reinvest. Those programs include Hands on Jamestown, Community Gardens, Jamestown Historic Districts, Renaissance Block Challenge and, new in 2019, Paint Jamestown. In 2019, the Renaissance Block Challenge and Paint Jamestown will focus on properties in the Allen Park/UPMC Chautauqua neighborhoods on the city’s south side. Like previous years, homeowners performing exterior renovations can apply for matching funds and support from local experts, such as contractors and landscapers. Paint Jamestown offers 10 homeowners in this area grants to paint the outside of their property in one of 50 historic color schemes. Since 2011, the Renaissance Block Challenge has engaged 450 homeowners and landlords and invested more than $1 million to property owners through personal investments and small matching grants.

Give Big CHQ June 13, 2019 12 a.m.—11:59 p.m.

For the second year in a row, Give Big CHQ, the region’s

only 24-hour online fundraising event, will raise as

many dollars as possible for local, nonprofit

organizations.

Through a partnership with the Northern Chautauqua

Community Foundation, this year’s event will include

organizations located in, or serving, the entire county.

For additional details about this year’s event, or to see if

your favorite organization is participating, contact

Elizabeth Jones, CRCF research and engagement

associate at [email protected] or call

(716) 661-3390. Executive directors, Tory Irgang, CRCF;

and Diane Hannum, NCCF; announce a

county-wide event.

In Memoriam The Community Foundation offers its deepest condolences to the friends and family of

three community visionaries we are grateful to have known.

Maurice Roach, lifelong

Falconer resident and owner of

Falconer Printing and Design.

Along with his wife, Doris,

Maury led the efforts to create

the Falconer Region

Community Fund.

Dr. James Lyons, former

Jamestown resident and

member of the Jamestown High

School Class of 1950 was

instrumental in creating a

scholarship fund to support

future JHS grads.

Roland Swanson, WWII

veteran and US Navy SEABEE

established several funds to

benefit local students,

nonprofit organizations and

his community at large.
