MY LOWRY

Welcome to The LowryWe’re really proud to announce another exciting season coming to Salford.

At The Lowry we pride ourselves on having one of the country’s strongest and most diverse dance programmes. This autumn we will be taking our exploration of dance to a new level, when the internationally renowned dancer and choreographer, Akram Khan, becomes our second Performer as Curator. Following on from the success of our inaugural curator, Alison Goldfrapp, this innovative new exhibition gives a performing artist the chance to take over our galleries and explore the blurring of boundaries between performing and visual arts.

We are also delighted to have Eckhard Thiemann, a former producer for the Cultural Olympiad, joining our team as Programming Associate for Dance. Eckhard will ensure our programming remains truly cutting edge and further strengthen our position as the centre for dance in the North of England. The dance programme this autumn includes Brazilian company Grupo Corpo and a stunning performance by Theo Clinkhard takingplace in our Compass Room.

Alongside this we have one of the strongest theatre programmes in recent years. It features three multi-award-winning productions from, our partner company, the National Theatre, including the first performances outside London of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. We also welcome critically-acclaimed productions by the Royal Shakespeare Company, Frantic Assembly and the Royal Court.

There's more than ever for families too, starting with our landmark exhibition Here’s One We Made Earlier, tracking the history of BBC Children’s broadcasting. Then in October, we will be working with partners once more on the national Family Arts Festival – so make sure you visit thelowry.com for more information.

Here’s One We Made EarlierThe story of BBC Children’s broadcasting: past, present & future

Sat 19 July – Sun 12 October

Bill and Ben, Muffin the Mule, Andy Pandy, Teletubbies, Crackerjack, Newsround, Blue Peter and Tracy Beaker… our childhoods have been defined by the broadcasts we first encountered as children. They have shaped our imaginations, from the family sitting room into the wider world.

This major exhibition explores the story of over 90 years of BBC Children’s broadcasting, starting with the first days of broadcasting in 1922, when the BBC launched Children’s Hour, right up to the present multi-media moment.

Fun, engaging, interactive, and full of famous presenters past and present, Here’s One We Made Earlier will reflect shifting perceptions of children in society, from toddlers who were asked to ‘sit comfortably’ in front of the family wireless, to today’s children who take centre stage on air and online.

This exhibition has been produced by The Lowry in partnership with the BBC.

Dancer and Choreographer Akram Khan curates the second in our major new series, giving outstanding performers the opportunity to curate their own visual arts exhibition.

Khan brings together elements of performance and live installation work alongside sculpture, painting and film, that echoes his enduring fascination with essential oppositions – the traditional and the contemporary, the spiritual and the grounded, doubt and certainty, light and dark, truth and fiction.

An Alice in Wonderland-like labyrinth of the artistic and cultural influences that inspire the performer, the exhibition can be experienced at times as a guided tour or as an immersive personal journey.

One man tries to find his balance in an unstable world in this acclaimed full-length contemporary solo by celebrated choreographer and performer Akram Khan. The rock ’n’ roll swagger of the Rolling Stones is brought thrillingly to life in Rooster, Christopher Bruce’s electrifying celebration of the swinging sixties. Sharp-suited, snake-hipped men and strong, sassy women perform virtuoso courtship dances to some of the Stones’ most famous tunes,

including Not Fade Away, Paint It Black, Sympathy

for the Devil and Little Red Rooster.

Rambert, Britain’s national dance company, combines inventive storytelling, world-class

Brazil’s internationally acclaimed dance company make a welcome return to the UK following their enormously successful tour in 2005.

A contemporary dance company formed in 1975, Grupo Corpo are renowned for combining the precision of classical ballet with the sensuality and passion of Latin dance rhythms.

The Company perform two pieces, choreographed by artistic director Rodrigo Pederneiras. The calm and fury of the sea is evoked in Sem Mim where the dancers move as waves and the Brazilian carnival is brought to the stage in Parabelo where dancers sweep across the stage in Pederberias’ most Brazilian creation.

Prepare for an exhilarating performance as the 22 dancers fill the stage with elegant and joyful dance which is guaranteed to have the audience in raptures.

Box Office and Booking Information

How To BookYou can book by phone, online, fax, post or in person. When booking by fax or post please remember to include full performance details (e.g. evening/matinee performance and seating area) payment method (e.g. card details), your name, address, postcode and, very importantly, your telephone number.

Some performances contain loud noises and special effects. For further information please speak to our Box Office.

Ticket CollectionTickets can be paid for by cheque, postal order, credit or debit card. Please make cheques payable to The Lowry. A per-ticket booking fee applies for all tickets booked over the phone or online (excludes Studio shows and activity bookings, groups and school bookings). There is no booking fee for Patrons or those registered as disabled or taking advantage of a signed or audio described performance. All tickets booked 10 days in advance will be posted to you at no extra charge. Tickets purchased less than 10 days in advance should be collected from the Box Office.

Discounts and ConcessionsThe Lowry offers discounts to the following people: under 16s, students in full-time education, disabled people, 60+ in full-time retirement, job seekers and participants of the New Deal. When child tickets are listed separately, no extra concessions apply. These discounts are subject to availability and may vary according to the visiting producer and the show.

The Lowry The Lowry is an accessible space. We advise wheelchair users and those taking advantage of our signed or audio described performances to inform the Box Office when booking tickets for a theatre event, so we can ensure all seating requirements are met. The Lowry offers complimentary tickets to essential carers for disabled visitors. Please check with Box Office for details.

Hiring a Wheelchair The Lowry has 3 wheelchairs available for hire free of charge. These can be booked through Box Office.

Receivers for our Sennheiser infra-red facility are available from the Welcome Desk in the Main Foyer. Please advise Box Office of your requirements when booking theatre tickets.

Guide dogs are welcome.

Disabled Parking There is a passenger drop-off point immediately in front of The Lowry. Secure parking is available in The Lowry Outlet Mall car park, which also has designated areas for disabled people on each level.

We recommend that Blue Badge holders enter the car park at the entrance near the mini roundabout on the road leading from The Quays as this will allow parking on the ground floor level. For more information on disabled parking please contact

ParkingSave time and remove the hassle from parking at the Lowry Outlet Mall by pre-purchasing your parking at a cost of £5 when you buy your tickets from Box Office. We’ll simply send you a voucher, along with your tickets, which you use at the barriers when entering and

1. The Management reserves the right to make alterations to the advertised cast and programme; not to admit latecomers until the interval; to refuse admission; to provide alternative seats to those purchased of the same or greater value

2. Tickets are purchased for personal use only and are not purchased as any form of business or commercial activity. All tickets are non-refundable. Tickets may not be resold or offered for resale by anyone at a premium or otherwise. Resale or attempted resale is grounds for cancellation without refund or notice.

3. Use of photographic, sound recording and mobile communications equipment is forbidden.

4. Patrons must state discounts they are entitled to at the time of booking, as they cannot be applied retrospectively and are subject to availability.

5. When processing your booking the Box Office will ask your name, address, email address and telephone number. This information may be used to keep you informed of forthcoming events at The Lowry with your agreement.

6. The Lowry reserves the right to refuse admittance to unaccompanied minors.

7. Productions do not always contain live music.

8. All information correct at time of going to press.

9. Up to £1 of the ticket price paid for certain shows goes to The Lowry Building Improvement Fund

10. Patrons are to note that reservations are only kept for a maximum of 12 weeks (for shows 6 months or more away) and for 6 weeks (for shows less than 6 months away). Immediate payment is required for all shows less than 6 weeks away. All payment methods must be cleared at least 10 days prior to the show date.
