GIVINGis History in the MakingWhile giving comes for many special reasons; in many

shapes and sizes; and through many different ways, its

impact remains the same. Giving changes the course of

history. Giving has undoubtedly changed ours.

Throughout this special Evergreen Foundation

Green Leaves edition, you will see the impact made

by our many generous donors. Through their giving

they have helped Evergreen fund changes, promote

improvements and realize growth. They have helped

support the Evergreen vision, a vibrant community

that offers rich life experiences and choices in programs,

services and environments for those we serve.

Because giving creates a familial friendship, all

our donors are members of our Evergreen Family

of Friends. To all we tirelessly extend our sincere

gratitude, appreciation and love. For all we pray that

God showers upon you His choicest blessings.

friends who support the

Evergreen vision to be a

GIVING Comes for Many Special ReasonsGiving each year is encouraged for the purposes that need annual support as well as for specific purposes determined during each individual year. Evergreen’s giving history began with an emphasis on supporting the benevolent fund used for residents who outlive their financial resources. While benevolence continues to require annual support, many other projects are now offered as opportunities for donor interest and support.

2015 ANNUAL APPEALSupports Everyday Life. At Evergreen!

In sharp contrast to the lofty, long-range goal of our Building Community Campaign, the purpose of our 2015 ANNUAL APPEAL was to help support the work we do each day. These are the simple things - so necessary and easily taken for granted - that make life more comfortable, enjoyable and enriching. EVERYDAY LIFE. AT EVERGREEN!

THANK YOU for having gifted our 2015 Annual Appeal.

Its income realized

an increase from

2014 in donated

dollars, in numbers

of donors, and in

the number of

individual gifts.

$206,525 was gifted to the Evergreen Foundation;

$143,048 came from 379 individuals through 851 separate gifts;

$63,477 came from bequest income;

$45,944 was unrestricted;

$97,104 was restricted for special purposes/projects.

FOUR INDIVIDUALS joined the

LEAVE A LEGACY GUILD. Its members inform us they named Evergreen a beneficiary in their estate plans.

THANK YOU FOR CARING, FOR GIVING.MAY GOD BLESS YOU!

GIVINGComes in Many Shapes and Sizes

WE ARE GRATEFUL for our donors who made a difference in Everyday Life at Evergreen because of their belief in our efforts.

GIVING Honors Your Passions and Helps Others

Requests for information about giving to the Evergreen Foundation, to select which Evergreen Foundation materials to receive, or to remove your name from specific mailing lists may be directed to the Vice President of Foundation Advancement at 920-237-2120.

a You can designate the purpose of your gift to any of the following:• The benevolent fund for residents who have outlived their

financial resources;• The endowment fund whose interest may be used annually;• The unrestricted fund whose use is determined by the

Foundation Board of Directors;• The restricted fund of your choice.

a You can identify any gift as honorariums to commemorate special occasions for your loved ones or as memorials to remember them.

a You can make gifts of any amount and kind (e.g. cash, stocks, bonds, property). • Donors of $100,000 gifts or more are eligible for naming

opportunities;• Bequests of $10,000 or more are recognized on the center

plates of the Founders Grove Recognition Wall;• Non-campaign donors of one-time or cumulative gifts reaching

$10,000 are recognized on the center plates of the Founders Grove Recognition Wall and receive a pinecone pyramid specially designed for Evergreen donors;

• Memorials reaching $2,000 are recognized on the side plates of the Founders Grove Recognition Wall.

• Donors to campaigns are recognized on Campaign Recognition Walls.

a You may realize charitable deductions, tax savings, and/or income for life through various estate planning tools. Federal and many state tax laws make it possible to reduce or eliminate gift, estate, capital gain, and income taxes on funds given to charities.

a Unless you choose to remain anonymous, you will be recognized for your respective level of giving in the annual Family of Friends Donor Report for gifts, bequests and planned gifts made during the previous calendar year.

14

Giving to the passions that inspire you provides the satisfaction of knowing you have helped others in ways that are precious to you. Giving to the Evergreen Foundation impacts Everyday Life. At Evergreen! It also offers you the benefits of belonging to our Family of Friends and blesses you with the joy of giving.

GIVINGto the Building Community Campaign

Having its start in 2011 with a feasibility study determining a $3 million goal, our Building Community Campaign to date has realized a total of $1,918,446 in cash, pledges, planned estate gifts and bequests. All campaign gifts and pledges made since its beginning are recognized in this report. Pledged gifts are identified with asterisks and are listed in their entirety.

We are overwhelmed and deeply grateful for all who have already supported the Building Community Campaign meant to ease the financial stretch of our campus-wide Master Site Plan. Our hope and trust rest in the continued generosity of Evergreen residents, family, staff and friends who will be moved to support our campaign efforts.

Giving with IRA Charitable Rollover Legislation The Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act as amended in 2015 makes the IRA Charitable Rollover permanent law. This is an important giving vehicle for our donors who are age 70 1/2 or older because it allows you to transfer up to $100,000 annually from your IRA accounts directly to Evergreen without having to pay income tax on the money. This opportunity applies only to IRAs and not to other types of retirement plans. You may not receive any goods or services in return for the rollover gift in order to qualify for tax-free treatment.

GIVINGChanges the Course of History

Legacy planned giving continues to see an upward spiral. Between 2000 and 2015, the Leave a Legacy Guild welcomed 43 new planned giving members who have informed Evergreen that we have been named as a beneficiary in their estate plans.

Periodically we receive unexpected estate gifts. While we are gratefully surprised, our growing the Leave a Legacy Guild membership has purposes meant to benefit our members. Knowing of our planned giving members’ plans enables us to express our loving gratitude during their lifetimes. It also enables us to share with the entire Evergreen community our heartfelt appreciation for their generous and loving foresight.

LEAVE A LEGACY GUILDPLANNED GIFTS

We are grateful for our residents and friends who plan to leave a legacy to Evergreen and make a lasting impact on Evergreen history.

History of Bequests Leaves Legacy for Years to ComeEvergreen’s history of legacy giving began in 1982. In 1988 Evergreen received its first largest bequest from founder Howard Rowland. He secured his dream for Evergreen through the Howard Rowland Trust whose annual earnings continue to help offset Evergreen’s benevolent need each year.

By the year 2000, Evergreen realized from 59 estate donors bequests totaling $2,412,000. Fifteen years later, an additional 52 bequests generated $5,312,685

thus bringing the total legacy giving to $7,724,685 from 111 estates.

Since its beginning, Evergreen has reaped many benefits through the Rowlands’ legacy of faith. It has inspired us to change, improve and grow. Likewise, the Evergreen Foundation has reaped the benefits of the Rowlands’ legacy of generosity. It has inspired many to help change the course of Evergreen history.

Thanks to the work of the Evergreen Art Committee, Evergreen is a gallery of fine art from door to door!

Under the chairmanship of Village resident Bill Urbrock and with the help of a dedicated group of Manor Apartment and Village residents, the Evergreen Art Committee has brought a new level of interest to the lounges, hallways, common areas and even to the outdoor green. The beautiful copper and brass kinetic sculpture in Garden Grove created by Wisconsin artist Dave Riemer was one of the first major purchases of the committee under Urbrock’s leadership.Some of the many artists whose work is featured at Evergreen include • Georgia O’Keefe • Nile Behncke • Claude Monet • Gerhart CF Miller • Judi Ekholm • Paul Dominguez
