Phoenix Park

Directions:Leave the Showfields car park and turn right on to West Road. Walk up the gentle hill, over two bridges, and past the Bowling Club towards the town centre. When you reach the cycle shop on West Street (almost opposite Manor Court entrance), turn right up New Croft Lane, keep left and carry on walking. Continuing along the tarmac path, pass behind the Croft Court houses and the Junior School and walk across the end of George Street until you arrive in Beech Croft. Stay on the footpath until you pass the last house on your right, where the space opens onto fields. Carefully cross over the cul-de-sac, pass the field gate and find the path behind the tin garages which takes you up into Phoenix Park. Go through the large kissing gate and take the right hand path, following it all the way around the park, bearing left at the top entrance to continue back to where you came in. Go out through the gate, down the path, turn left and head back the way you came until you reach your starting point in the recreation ground on West Road.

Direction: Walk down Church Street, passing Water Street car park on your left. Continue along Brookside and take the hedge-lined track at the entrance to Tannery Court. Follow this path over a small bridge to the crossroads with Stony Banks. Take the gravelly path straight across, following the sign for Kirkland. Where the path forks, follow the tree-lined route to the right and cross the bridge over Speet Gill. Turn right, on to a track which brings you back to Stony Banks. Turn left, and follow the tarmac path. Go through the gate and continue past the houses on your left. At the main road, turn right and walk down Lowmoor Road. Turn right at the South End crossroads and continue towards the town centre, passing entrances to the Medical Centre and the school. Follow the pavement round to the right, past the auction mart. Cross the road at the second entrance on the left, and walk up Proctors Row to your starting point.
